The hour was late and the sky was tinged a deep blue-black. The moon shone bright and clear illuminating the well with its pale silver glow. No shadows moved in the forest beyond and no sounds could be heard, not even the rustling of the leaves. It was eerily silent. A normal person would've panicked about it. But of course, Kagura was no normal person.
She walked forward, out of the shadows of the forest, Kanna trailing behind her. Their footsteps were masked by the lush grass that cushioned their walk. The well was in plain sight and Kagura couldn't help breathing a sigh of relief that the hanyou and his gang were nowhere near the village. She didn't relish taking on another battle on behalf of Naraku and the sooner she was done with this mission the better.
She walked towards the very edge of the wooden well and peered inside. It was dark and empty. Well, she hadn't really expected to see anything inside. She gestured to Kanna to come forward.
“Do it quickly, so we can out of here,” she commanded to Kanna, and moved back a few steps so as not to get caught up in Kanna's spell.
She watched as Kanna placed four crystals on each bottom edge of the well. Kanna walked back a little and held up her mirror, facing upwards towards the moon. The moonlight reflected off the shiny face and Kanna angled it so that it fell on one crystal. That crystal reflected it to the next and then to the next, until the four crystals were bound together by thin tight rope of light, which rimmed the edge of the well.
“Oh, God of the Humble Moon. Descend to us and help us cast this spell. Reflect your light onto this well, so that we may use it as the humble vessel for our magic. Give us your spirit of light and reflection to cast the images this well has seen into mirrors of the present.”
Kanna pointed one finger to the well. The rope of light rimming the well swelled up vertically, encasing the well within its pale white walls. It enshrouded the surrounding area with its white glow before guttering out into a faint wisp of light that hung over the well like a cloud. Kanna whispered an incantation under her breath and the cloud shattered and disintegrated into a million stars that sprinkled the well with its magic.
“It's done?” Kagura asked.
“Yes.”
“Good. Then let's go.”
Before Kagura stepped back into the relative safety of the forest, she couldn't help looking back at the well. She had to go back and find out what Naraku was planning with that priestess Kikyo. Something was definitely up, that was for sure.

The next night.
“God, Kagome, you're driving me insane with all that screeching of yours!” InuYasha yelled at her from top of the leafless tree he was sitting in. They were camping again and he had a bloody headache from listening to her revise for her exams. He was near breaking point now after having listened to her all night.
“Well, if I didn't have to stay over here all the time, I wouldn't have to write make-up exams!” Kagome yelled back at him. She flung her textbook at him, throwing him off balance and he toppled over and landed on his butt in the soft damp ground. He let out a loud curse and glared at Kagome for making him fall.
“I wish Sango and Miroku were here. At least they'd give me something else to talk about other than the Chinese trade.” This earned him another hit with another textbook.
Sango and Miroku were off visiting another village that had complained about demonic attacks and Shippo wasn't here either because he had to go take some stupid fox test again. InuYasha was glad to have the little fox out of his hair, but he missed even him, now that he was faced with Kagome's exam revision from hell.
She started off again, repeating the same sentence again and again and again until it made InuYasha's head ache from hearing it.
Suddenly the breeze picked up. InuYasha instantly came alert as he sniffed the air. The scent was.. He closed his eyes trying to focus through the sound Kagome was making. This scent was… it was Kikyo's but there was also another scent tagging along with hers. It was that bastard Naraku's scent. His eyelids slammed open and his golden eyes glinted off into the night trying to discern from where the scent was coming.
There!
He took off into the forest, not giving another glance toward Kagome who was staring at his back in question. What was up with him? She stood up and reached for her bow and arrows before taking off after him.
InuYasha reached a clearing and found Kikyo standing in front of the tree of ages, where he had been stuck for fifty years.
“What are you doing here?” InuYasha asked, puzzled by Kikyo's sudden appearance.
“I wanted to talk to you, InuYasha,” she said as she turned towards him and leaned back against the tree trunk. “Come closer.”
InuYasha wasn't sure what Kikyo was up to, but he did as she bid.
“You know, fifty years ago Naraku made us both think that we had betrayed each other.”
“Where are you going with this? And why do you stink like him?”
“Naraku made me an offer.”
“What kind of offer?”
“Naraku can give me back my life.” She looked at him, right into his eyes and an almost happy glow entered her brown-eyed depths. “We can be together again!”
InuYasha wouldn't touch anything Naraku was offering with a ten-foot pole and he knew Kikyo wouldn't either. So why was she accepting Naraku's help?
Kikyo walked over to him and enclosed him within her thin, fragile arms.
“We can finally live together again. As husband and wife.” She kissed him then right on his lips.
InuYasha felt long-suppressed emotions for Kikyo stir inside him and unaware of anything else he returned her kiss with equal fervor, bringing up a hand to settle against her back and pulling her closer to him.
A furious gasp behind him made him break the kiss.
“Kagome!” InuYasha screamed at her rapidly retreating back. He broke away from Kikyo's grasp and ran away from the clearing trying to catch up with Kagome.
“You did well,” Naraku said as he stepped away from behind the tree.
Kikyo's eyes grew hard as she looked at him.
“You must not forget our deal. I want InuYasha and you want his soul.”
“Yes, but how do you think you can get his soul?”
“Give me the jewel. I'll take care of it.”
“No.” Naraku was not foolish enough to fall for that. If the jewel fell into Kikyo's hands she could easily purify it. “You bring him to me. I'll do it myself.” And with that he flew off.
Kikyo stared at the sky. It was just like Naraku to believe she would obey his every command just like that. Well, she had her own plans, and she wasn't going to do change any of that for Naraku.

“That stupid, stupid, stupid hanyou. How dare he?” Kagome was muttering aloud to herself as she walked towards the well intent on getting home. All she wanted to do right now was crawl up into bed and cry about what a stupid idiot that InuYasha was. She knew he didn't love her. She knew he still loved that Kikyo. And that bond was still hard to break, but still it hurt. The part of her heart that belonged to InuYasha still hurt from witnessing that kiss in the forest.
Tears ran down her cheeks and wiped them away furiously. Stupid, stupid heart! Still loving him, even after he hurt her.
She broke into a sprint as the well came into sight. She was too overwrought to notice that something was wrong with the well. She could hear InuYasha calling her name behind her and she didn't want to face him now. She took off towards the well and jumped into it.
A soft snap sounded as she fell inside and a white transparent wall of light appeared over the opening. The spell was finally cast now that the intended victim was finally trapped within its walls.
