InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Pretend ❯ Chapter 1
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
Disclaimer: I do not own InuYasha and co.
He had always been the loving little brother. He was always there whenever she needed him. He was always there for her to rant on about when she was angry; whether it was about her stressed high-school life, or about the life she lived in at the other side of the well. Yes, his own sister lived in a fantasy fairy tale, ones where he had only heard of. Now he was a part of one. It scared him. Souta watched as his mother and grandfather welcomed his older sister home. His eyes widened slightly at how his sister had changed. Not only was she taller, her hair was longer and she had discarded her horrid school uniform.
It has been three, long years since it all began.
His mother hugged Kagome tightly to her. While his grandfather praised the lord for keeping her safe for such a long time. It wasn't until shortly after that InuYasha had followed along. He watched as the half-demon laced his fingers into his sister's, he almost wanted to puke. What was this feeling he got whenever she came back? Maybe it was the fact that it made him feel insecure.
Growing up, his parents had always paid attention to Kagome more than they did to him. Even before his father died, his last words were for Kagome. "I know you can make it. I know you can be a somebody." But what did he say to Souta? Not much, really. And although Kagome wasn't exactly smart, it was like he was stupid. They had always depended on her, and he was just the little boy who wasn't old enough to even stay home alone yet. He wasn't exactly sure he wanted to be depended on, but he wanted to know how it felt.
Even after Kagome had left and disappeared through the time portal in the well, he was never really noticed. His heart felt a pang of jealousy whenever he saw her face again. The worst part was that he knew his heart still loved her. She was always the kind, looking-out-for-him sister. But he also knew another thing.
He wanted her to die.
He wanted her to die back there. He didn't care how, or by whom, he just wanted her to leave. And then maybe he would finally get a chance in the spotlight. He would finally be the one showered in gifts and compliments because there was no Kagome to praise! Yes. That was what it was. Once in a while, he dreamt that she was probably ripped apart by a demon or killed by that Kikyo girl he was always told about. He'd wake up in a sweat, his heart beating quickly, and it sickened him to know that he enjoyed every minute of it. Higurashi Kagome was his sister. But for now, Higurashi Souta would pretend.
He would - it was the least he could do - pretend to care.
Author's Note: I know, it's sick and twisted, but it just came to mind one day.
