Chapter Three

Inuyasha woke up at three a.m. that morning, his body was so sore he could barely move. His face felt tight and gritty with the tears and sweat that mingled on his skin and made strands of his hair stick to his face. Growling he sat up, wrapping his arms around his knees, allowing the memories of the past hours to run through his mind.

~~~~~~Flashback~~~~~~~
Sesshomaru was dead, and he'd killed him. Those were the only words that ran through his head for the ten minutes it took Inutashio to drive the usual twenty minute drive to the club. He had broken every traffic law in the book, Tenseiga resting across the backseat. The sword of Heaven could bring back the dead, so his father had told him. The problem was he'd never actually had to use it for that and he wasn't sure it would work. There was no time for these thoughts. Sesshomaru needed him.
Inutashio had insisted they take Sesshomaru somewhere other than the parking lot, back to the mansion was where he wanted to do this. Inuyasha would not let go of his brother so he had, without much difficulty, put Sesshomaru into the SUV and rode back to his brother's house. All the while he pleaded and begged Kami to let his brother hold on just a little longer.
In the center of Sesshomaru's prized rose garden, Inutashio brought the sword up to heaven and a blue bolt of lightning hit the tip, traveling down to the hilt of the sword and causing the blade to glow with a shimmering blue light. Inutashio was unsure if he was doing the right thing, but he also trusted his instinct and lowered the blade to his sons chest. The knife in his chest shook and exploded in a burst of red light that met the blue from the sword and hovered over Sesshomaru as a purple glow.
Sesshomaru's eyes opened, and then his fingers moved. "What the-- what's going on?"
"Oh Sesshomaru!" Inuyasha threw himself into the arms of the taiyoukai, tears falling freely. "You're alive! I'm so sorry I killed you!"
"Killed me?" Sesshomaru's eyes flashed up to capture his fathers, who still held Tensaiga, nodding. "How?"
"He threw his switchblade at Kouga but he ducked, and it went through your heart." Gypsy explained, pulling Inuyasha into her arms so Sesshomaru could stand.
~~~~~~~End Flashback~~~~~~~

Gypsy sat on the foot of the bed, she avoided direct eye contact with Inuyasha, still a bit hurt and angry. "We need to talk."

"I know," he said, his voice rough. "I am sorry. The drugs aren't something I do all the time. Just when I'm stressed out like I was tonight. Man, everything happens to me."

"I know about the band, baby." Her voice was soft and fluid. "There is no shame in it. It's not your fault, Inuyasha."

"That may be true but how the hell am I gonna pay the bills and such?" Inuyasha looked up as Shiori and Jace bounded through the door and landed on the bed with two soft 'oomphs.'

"Daddy?" Shiori smelled the tears as did her brother, and they both stared with perked ears and wide eyes.

"I'm fine, pups. Come here!" He reached out for them and was soon being mauled by the pups who tussled for a spot on each side of him. "Daddy just isn't feeling too good-- well, wasn't, I feel ok now."
Jace squirmed, "Bankotsu said you and Uncle Sesshy got into a fight and you hurt him. Is that true?"

Inuyasha studied his son for a moment, noticing with a start that the child had grown considerably and his once pure snowy hair was beginning to have darker streaks in it, black ones. He wondered if maybe the human blood in him was rising to the surface. Being two different kinds of youkai and half human to boot must be affecting him, Inuyasha decided, pulling his son up to nuzzle before replying. "Yes, but we're over it now and we're both safe. I don't want you thinking it's ok to just go off half-cocked though, got that?"

Jace nodded, not seeing his father's puzzled look. The silver haired hanyou was processing the knowledge that his oldest son's scent was changing, he was more ookami than inu...

Shiori broke the silence with a yip, her innocent eyes turned up to her fathers. "Did you get into trouble with grandpa like Jace does for being means to me?"

Inuyasha blushed a bit and then chuckled, "Not yet but I think we're going to have a chat later today, little girl."

His clawed fingers traced her soft white ears as she purred under the attention.

Gypsy stood slowly, "Lets give daddy time to dressed and wake up! Breakfast!"

The two pups bounced off the bed and raced into the kitchen, Gypsy turned to Inuyasha. "What?"

"Jace-- he's-- changing." Inuyasha looked so vacant. "He's more ookami than inu now. His scent is a bit changed."

"Well he is hanyou so there's no telling really what he'll turn into. Shiori though is all inu," Gypsy laughed softly and leaned over to kiss him on the cheek. "We'll see you for breakfast."

Inuyasha's nose twitched, the scent of that damnable wolf demon lingered around his mate's neck. It was faded but still there. Perhaps she'd hugged him last night or something. Idly, he found himself wondering where Kouga had gotten off to last night after the fight and just where his mate had been.

Inuyasha stared at the mirror across the room for a while before moving. He had to face his brother and father today and apologize for everything. He tossed the covers back and came to his feet with a growl.

"I'm gonna apologize to Sesshomaru and then I'm gonna finish what I started." He told his reflection as he dressed.
