Part 1: The Assassin

Sesshomaru's P.O.V

It was nearing to time when the blossoms of the tree would string into a full bloom. WE, Jaken, Rin and myself, were on the usual route checking for imposing youkai within the Western Lands. Every now and then on all of our journeys, I find myself forced to glance back and bark for my adopted daughter Rin to stop her silly hobby of picking flowers and to kept up. If she had been a youkai or at lest a hanyou, I would have punished her with a swat of my paw, but human are frail and delicate, like crystal glass. Even the smallest flick can send it crashing to the ground in pieces. Besides, her innocents and trustful nature hindered me from even raising my own voice at her, and I had learned only shortly after bring her back to life that if her actions displeased me I had only need to said her name.

"Rin," I called after as I continued to walk slowly down the accent forest path that my ancestors had walked before me. When I did not gain a replied nor hear her small feet hurry towards me I turned to find that she no longer was behind me. "Rin?"

Jaken had been walking ahead for once since the child had gotten on his nerves and he need distance between himself and Rin to resist temptation from hitting her. He turned to see what was the matter when he too noticed our missing companion. I sniffed to air, trying to find her scent. I cursed, as the smell of Fairy Traps filled the air. They were fool scents pants that are as dangerous as they are beautiful, so I could not find the scent of one small human child whom smelled of Autumn Apple blossoms. I took a step forward when something crashed into me.

"Out of my way, youkai!" A voice hissed. I looked to see a figure dress in a black ninja suit, their face hidden from the eyes of the world and a sword resting by their side. I looked into the pale blue eyes of a black haired boy about fifteen years of age, or rather a young, but clumsy and foolish man. The blue orbs glared at me with pure hate. "I have no time to quarrel with annoying male youkai!" So, he knew what I was, which could only mean he too was one of my kin, but his scent told nothing.

"Who are you?" I demanded keeping my face schooled to give nothing away. The boy was smart. I could seem the play of mussels in his legs, relaxing, contracting. He was debating whether to run or fight. "Show your face,"

There was a snort of arrogant humor. "No," I became enraged. The boy dared to define an order. "Step aside inu-koru before I make you. I said I have no time to trifled with morons like you,"

"Insolent fool!" Jaken piped up. The boy's eyes darted on the toad before returning to me and towards the nearby waterfall. "This is the great lord Sesshomaru. How dare you show disrespect…"

"To what?" The boy barked, make the annoying toad back away. "A murder? A slave owner? All youkai are the same to me, what does it matter? Now be silent or I will…" He stopped in his threat and looked to the waterfall again. "Damn, she's too near them!"

"What are you…" I was about to inquire when he darted away. It was then his words sank in. "Rin," I followed.

The Boy's P.O.V

I continued to curse myself for stopping to speak with the thickheaded mutt. He was a waist on my time and my energy. I had trained since my own childhood on my killing skills and abilities to move quickly. I never had friends, nor have I ever trusted anyone, not even my own master, whom saved me as pup. I have always been alone. Such is the life on my tribe, my kin. My entire bloodline has been built on warriors, spies, and assassins, like myself. If I had grown up with them, I would have been married away over two years ago, had pups of my own and be hunting for food instead of vengeance. I most likely would have become a tame wolf and a leader of my people, but no. My fate would not lie with them. I growled and cursed myself again. I can not linger in the past, Odin would punish me if I did. I skidded to a sharp halt, swatting the small human child away from the Fairy Trap. She let out a loud cry of surprise and pain as she staggered away and fell into a safe clearing. I may have pushed her too hard for her own liking, but if she were to touch the flower, nothing would stop the poison from taking it's destructive curse threw her small body. I may be a hired killer, but children are innocent and truly do not need to see what I have seen in my own puphood.

"Ah!" I gasped sharply as I realized that I may have pushed her into safety, but placed myself within the flower's reach. A rather large gold rimmed blossom shot it's fin needle thorn threw my ankle as it broke off. "Damn it,"

"Rin!" I heard the white youkai bark after the child. If she was his slave, I swear I will kill him. I turned to see him looking puzzled.

"Sesshomaru-sama!" The girl hurried behind him for protection.

"So, the mutt has a name," I snarled as I pulled on the thorn, it was no use. Fairy Trap Thorns are two inches long and like cactus needles. It's hell to get them out and hurt just as much. "No matter,"

"Halt!" Sesshomaru ordered, still protecting the little one. A sweet thing she was, I can understand why. I began to laugh at him. "Nani?"

"Use your nose, mutt," I mocked as I tapped my own. "Or are you truly foreign to these flowers? I am no dog. I am a wolf. Pray we do not met again unless your little one is with you, or I will kill you," And with that I took my leave. I only give one warning.
