Part 3: Trick for the Roses

Rin's P.O.V

I think it was around eight in the morning when I started to wake up. I was still tired from the day before, all the walking was tiring and not to mention my attacker rescuer had given me quit the scare at first. It hadn't been until bedtime that I realized she had saved me. The delicious smell of roosting meat reached me nose and slowly pulled me out of my sleep. I rubbed me eyes free from sleep and came face to face with a young black haired woman. It took a few moments before I realize it was the same person from yesterday.

"Morning Little One," She greeted me kindly with a kind smile, keeping her fangs hidden from showing. "Would you like some food?"

"Ha-hai, arigato," I was a little worried. Most demons I had met, besides Sesshomaru, Jaken, Ah-Um, and Inu Yasha, were always out to kill me, because I was human. I looked into her eyes, trying to read her soul. I maybe human, but my mother taught me how to find out if a person possessed a good heart or an evil one.

"You are trying to read me aren't you, Little One?" I jumped. She knew! How? I was always careful about doing this talent; even Sesshomaru-sama didn't know my ability. "Don't worry. Your secret is safe with me,"

"Who are you?" I started to eat the freshly roosted piece of deer she had given me. Ah-Um was watching us lazily, Jaken and Sesshomaru were no where to be seen. "Where is Sesshomaru-sama?"

"My name is Kira," She answered sitting next to me and eating her own food. She was very beautiful, despite the dirt that stained her face a little. Her long black mane ran all the way down her back but never reached the grass ground, and her sapphire eyes shinned brightly in the morning sunlight. "I'm part of the White Wolf Clan. Your lord is in the spring bathing. He left the pack animal to protect you and hinder me from running away wail he is busy,"

"Why would you run away?" I starred confused, before wondering if I should just be silent before she would hit me.

"I am his prisoner of war, it would be logical for me to run," She smiled again and patted me softly on the head. "But unlike the dragon, I can tell you when you wonder too close to any dangerous plants. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I learned you died because I ran off,"

Kira's P.O.V

I wanted to bust into laughter at the bewildered look the girl gave me. My clan was made up of strays, full blood or not. We had had a few Soul Readers, so I knew what to look for unlike the mutt. He had killed the deer that we were eating, that is after he rendered me unconscious. I smiled at the girl. She reminded me of Iris and Kisa, two of my best friends in the village. They were lucky; they died from the attack. I had been forced to live on, always in search for their killer. I had been little, but I will know whom he is when I find him. Their leader had been a young yong man, two or three years older then my mother. I could only remember little from that day because I was so young, but I knew that he had a scar on his back. A sort of burn mark shped like a creature of darkness. But if it were a spider or a snake I didn't know. My thoughts were cut short when the stench of wet dog reached my nose and the mutt came into view.

"Sesshomaru-sama!" Rin hurried to greet him, hugging his leg when I realized that he was not alone. "Nee? Who's that?"

"My name is Kai," A samurai boy kneeled before Rin, meeting her eye to eye. "It is a pleasure to met you, Rin-hime," I started to growl. He was a servant to the Eastern Lands and very well hated to me. He looked at me puzzled. "I was unaware that you had a mate as well, my lord,"

"I am not his mate, boy!" I growled, baring my fangs in pure anger. "I'm a prisoner of war. Nothing else to that mongrel whom stands beside you,"

"Such words for a woman," He snarled. "You should train your bitch,"

In a flash, I had the arrogant boy in my grasp, my figures slowly squeezing his live breath out why I remembered Rin was near. I swear low and darkly. "Be happy the child is near me, or I would make you face the Fendric's Wolf in pieces," With that I picked Rin up and carried her to the spring. We females need the bathe as well.

Once we were both deep in the water, I watched Rin doggie paddle around a bit. So, she doesn't know how to swim completely. The spring was nice. Fairy Traps don't like a lot of water so there weren't any around, except wild blood red roses. I closed my eyes and allowed the hot water relax my mussels when Rin yelped.

"Awe!" She looked at the tiny droplet of blood on her finger and glared at full bloomed rose before her. She noticed my puzzled face. "Rin wants to give rose to Sesshomaru-sama,"

"I want to give the rose to Sesshomaru-sama," I gently corrupted. Stupid males. All they know is how to train young boys into strong men. They know nothing about little girls. I swam over to her. "Let me see," I dipped her finger into the water and kissed the small wound. "Let me show you a trick on picked roses, Rin,"

"Hai, Kira-sama,"

"See where the thorns are the biggest?" She nodded. "If you pull the thorns off like this, you can hold it there and pick it. Try now,"

"Rin did it," She cheered and I allowed a soft chuckle to work up my throat.

"I did it, Rin," I patted her head again, giving her a kind smile. "It is pronounced, I did it,"

"I did it," She hugged me softly and climbed out of the water to dry off.
