“Do you know your plan?” asked an emotionless voice.
“Yes,” replied a voice of a ten year old. The person kneeled before the voice for respect.
“Good, I am glad. I have trained you for three years for this moment so you can be king. Go now…and surprise your father,” the voice sneered.
“Yes, mother, I will do what I can. I won't let you down,” replied the young voice. The boy bowed and left.

Kagome was in her chair, in her little garden, drinking green tea. She was thinking about all sorts. InuYasha. Sango. Hojo. The only thing that was missing in her life was a child. She always wanted to have children. She wanted to hear little feet running around the castle and them asking her for help. She sighed. But unfortunately she isn't fertile; she never had any eggs when she was born, since she never started her period.
`Hojo will never have a heir because of me,' she thought sadly. But, Hojo didn't mind. As long as she is healthy, he would say.
But Kagome couldn't shake off the feeling that she would be very responsible for not having the heir that the kingdom will need. She hoped that it wouldn't be true, that they feeling won't become factual.
She stood up and walked towards a bush with small baby blue flowers. Her hand cupped it, rubbing her thumb over the silky petals. Hojo gave the bush to her for a wedding gift. She loved it. It was her favorite color and the aroma was magnificent. Kagome loves flowers.
It's amazing how Hojo knows her so well since they haven't been together all that long. How long have they been married? Three months?
Kagome went back to her chair and sipped her tea. She then felt arms around her and she inhaled the familiar scent of apple and oatmeal. Hojo.
She turned around and saw him. But, he didn't look happy. She became concerned.
“Hojo, what's the matter?” she asked him as she laid her hand on top of his.
`He looks so much older with a burden he's carrying on his shoulders. I wonder what's wrong,' she thought.
“I have something to tell you, which you might not like at all, literally,” he said. He lifted his hand from her shoulder and walked to the chair that was on the other side of the table.
“Ah, well, you see, I have an older sister, actually, half sister to be exact. My father was previously married to a woman name Rei. She already had a daughter with a man and she was forced to marry my father, himself. Then, they became pregnant with me. When I was born, my father banished my mother and her daughter from the castle and they moved to Hong Kong, China. When I was fifteen, I met my sister. My father agreed with my mother to have just her visit me. Don't even ask why my father banished my mother since he never told me. My sister was twenty when she came to visit.
My sister was very beautiful. She had this aura about her that lured me. Strangely, that night, my father died in his sleep. The doctors never knew what happened. It still remains a mystery to this day.
The next night, ahem, after a feast of me becoming king, I slept with my sister. The day after, she left to go back to China.
Today, I received a letter that I have a son and his name is Shippo. He's ten years old and she told me that he will be coming to visit tomorrow and he left just two days ago.
I know that you must be feeling very overwhelmed with this new information. I never wanted to reveal this awful past of mine. I guess I'll leave you to get use to this,” Hojo said and he left her alone.
Kagome just sat there and was doing what Hojo said thought she would do. She was getting use to the new information. Hojo already has a son! And he's ten years old! Kagome laid her head on her table. She was starting to feel very depressed.
`At least I don't have to worry that much to give him an heir. He already has one,' she thought grimly, `I bet he's happy that he has a son at last, even though he didn't know till today. I bet he doesn't worry anymore that I can't bare children.'
Kaede walked outside to see how her lady is. Kagome looked at her wizened face and cried.
“My lady Kagome, what's wrong?” Kaede asked with worry.
“Hojo…Hojo has a son and he's coming tomorrow. I feel so ashamed that I can't bare children for him. It's the least I can do to repay him for the happiness he gave me. It's just that…it's just that…” Kagome couldn't finish what she was saying, but Kaede understood.
It's just that Kagome wanted to be the one that gave him the son that he, Hojo, deserved. It's just that Kagome always wanted to be the mother of her own children. It's just that Kagome felt cursed to have this load on her shoulders about this problem.
“But, my child, Hojo doesn't care and you know that. He told you himself on your wedding day when you told him that you couldn't bare children. He told you as long as you are alive and well, then that's all that matters. He knew what he was getting himself into. He also told you that he named his friend, InuYasha, as the next High King if he doesn't have any heirs. So, don't you worry about a thing and just accept his son as part of the family. Anyways, he is your stepson,” said Kaede.
Kagome sniffed and nodded. She wiped the tears that went down her face.
“Come on, let's wash your face,” said Kaede. She led Kagome into her room. Kaede grabbed a bowl of water and a towel and wash Kagome's tear stricken face.
“Kaede, do you know what Hojo's sister's name is?” asked Kagome.
“Yes, I do know, her name is Kikyo. She has a very exotic look that every man that she comes across holds their breath until she is out of their sight,” the old nurse responded, “But you, my darling, have a more lovelier look than her. You are more tame than she is more wild.”
Kagome gave her a puzzled look. “What is that suppose to mean?”
Kaede dried the queen's face. “Well, they say that she is a witch with great power. She'll curse anyone that is in her way.”
The queen gulped. What if she is in the way and she is sending her son to kill her?
Kaede bowed and left the room. Kagome sat here bed, staring into space. She sat there like that until she was called to dinner.
Kagome went into the dinner hall and sat on the right side of her husband.
“Are you all right now, my love? Are you OK with everything?” he asked as he looked into her eyes.
“Yes, of course my lord. I will accept your, your son into the family,” she said as she cast her eyes down onto her plate full of food.
Hojo flinched. She called him `my lord' and made an effort not to sound sour as she said `your son.' He felt bad. He knew how much that she wanted to give him the son and children she thought he deserved. He placed a hand on her knee and squeezed it. It was sort of telling him that everything will be all right and nothing will change the way it is.
