`So it's finally happened,' Sesshomaru mused as he strode with an uncanny elegance and grace towards the home of the Lady Izayoi. `It's come down to this.'
Many years ago, Sesshomaru had made a promise, a promise he truly hadn't wanted to make. His father had been adamant about it, too. Hadn't left Sesshomaru alone until he was livid and had agreed. Now the time had come to fulfill that promise.
Fighting back the urge to sigh and destroy everything that came across his path, for he was that angry with his father, Sesshomaru strode towards the palace where the Lady Izayoi had dwelled. It was best just to get everything over and done with.
`Father, if I ever meet you in the afterlife, remind me to kill you all over again.'
As he strode towards the palace, a silvery-white and red blur raced towards him, along with a second silvery-white blur. Only the second blur was green instead of red. Before he could comprehend what was happening, the red and silver blur had attached itself to his leg. The green one came to a stop before him. Sesshomaru glanced down to see two very identical hanyou pups before him. The one in the red glanced up at him, golden eyes shimmering with fear. He started to say something when the pup glanced in the direction of the castle. Trailing behind the two pups was a human servant. A human servant who did not seem to be too pleased with the pups at that moment.
“Inuyasha, Kanaye! Come back here! Or so help me, I'll . . .”
The servant stopped when he saw Sesshomaru standing there, and his eyes widened with fear. Sesshomaru could smell it as it tinged the air.
“You'll what?” the daiyoukai inquired coolly, ignoring the two pups for the moment. The human started to visibly tremble at his inquiry.
“L-lord Se-sesshomaru,” came the stammer. “W-what are you doing here?”
“It is none of your concern as to why I'm here,” Sesshomaru intoned. “I'll ask you again. What will you do if the pups do not return to you?”
“Nothing,” the human replied quickly, the blood rushing from his face. “Nothing at all, my Lord.”
Sesshomaru raised an eyebrow at him. He didn't believe the man, not for a single moment. Not with the way the one pup clung to him and trembled. Which pup it wasn't, Sesshomaru wasn't sure. He'd find out later. At the moment, he was more concerned with the blatant disrespect that was being shown to those of his bloodline.
“You're lying to me,” Sesshomaru cooed. “And I hate it when someone lies to me.”
“P-please, my Lord,” the man quickly bowed. “I meant no disrespect. It's just . . . Inuyasha and Kanaye are very unruly pups . . . there are times they need to be put in their place . . .”
“Is now one of those times?” He advanced upon the trembling man. The child clinging to him never let go, instead keeping a hold and trailing behind Sesshomaru as he approached the servant. “Is now, a time when these pups are grieving for their loss, one of those times they need to put in their place?”
The man's jaw dropped in shock, as if he had not been expecting such an announcement from Sesshomaru, and he quickly scrambled away. Eyes wide, he shook his head `no.'
“I did not think so,” Sesshomaru murmured, allowing a cold smirk to grace his features. He paused a few feet away, his gaze still boring into the man. For a moment, he considered killing the man on the spot and leaving his lifeless corpse as a bloody message to the lord of the castle as to who truly ruled these lands. Then he quickly dismissed the notion. Killing the man would serve no true purpose and was a waste of his time. After all, he had what he had come for. Inuyasha and Kanaye. His father's pups.
“Tell your lord that I have taken Inuyasha and Kanaye with me. If he wishes to protest, he may come to my palace and take the matter up personally with me.”
Having said what he needed to, Sesshomaru turned away, scooping up both pups in the process. The other child had followed him as well, he had noted, and was grateful for it. It made it easier for him to leave.
“My Lord . . .”
The daiyoukai ignored the man and steadily rose into the air, his expression set in determination. He didn't really care if the humans protested his taking of his half-siblings or not. His father had passed the responsibility of their care onto Izayoi. Upon her death, they were his responsibility. No one would stop him from carrying out his father's last request, not even InuTaisho himself.
Little did he know just how much care they would truly need.
