Chapter Two
Rin was busying herself with Ah and Un placing flowers all over their harness. A small glint of a grin appeared on Sesshoumaru's face, barely noticable. Had Jaken looked closely, he may have caught this brief and short lived moment, but he was too concerned with tattling on Rin that he missed this rare occasion.
"Rin!" Rin squealed with delight and raced over to Sesshoumaru. "Hai, Sesshoumaru-sama!" She wrapped her arms around his waist to greet him. Sesshoumaru was a bit startled by her sudden outburst of affection, but said nothing. Rin realized that he uncomfortable, so she stepped back and lowered her head. "Rin's sorry. If Lord Sesshoumaru is displeased with the flowers..." Rin was cut off mid sentence. "Rin." She raised her head to look at her lord. "Continue if it pleases you." She smiled brightly, turned on her heals and ran back to Ah and Un to finish the project that she had begun for him. She turned to look at Jaken. When she was certain he was watching her, she stuck her tongue out at him.
"Sesshoumaru-sama! Why that little brat!" Jakens face contorted in a horrified manor. "To show me, JAKEN, disrespect like that!"
Jaken quieted instantly when he heard a small chortle come from behind him. He turned to face his master. Sesshoumaru was sitting nearby with a smirk on his face. He nodded at Rin. "Gomen, Jaken-sama." She smiled and bowed to them both. Soon, she was lost in her project once again.

Kagome landed softly, on the bottom of the well. "YES! I'm home!" She raced up the ladder and through the shrine that enclosed the well. Everything that had transpired between her and Sesshoumaru was now a fleeting memory. She raced towards the house with only one thing on her mind. *Inuyasha...* She sighed. "Why is it everytime I want to get away from you for a short while, I do nothing but think of you while I'm gone? GRRRRRRRR! INUYASHA! YOU JERK!"
"Kagome? Is that you?" Kagome was startled when she heard her brother Souta call out to her. "It is you!" Souta ran out of the house to greet her.
"SHHHH! Or you'll wake grandpa and mother."
"Too late. They've been up for at least an hour." Souta grasped Kagome's hand and led her into the house.
*I want a bath! GRRRRR! Check that one off of my list for the day.* Kagome rolled her eyes.
"Kagome. Welcome home." Her grandpa patted her on the back.
Her mother pushed past her grandfather and wrapped her arms around her. "I'm so pleased you came home Kagome. Had I known you'd be home so early, I would have had a bath ready for you." Kagome sighed inwardly. It seemed almost like she was being tormented. Like waving a piece of candy in front of a small child, then denying it to them. *I really need a bath.*
"Did Souta tell you his good news?"
"Ummm...no, not yet."
"There's been a bit of excitement here in the Higurashi household this morning." Their mother explained.
"Really? What's going on?" Kagome asked as she yawned.
"KITTENS KAGOME! KITTENS!" Her brother escorted her back to his room where a small black cat had given birth to four tiny kittens. Kagome's eyes closed and her voice sounded accusing. "BouYO!"
"No, no...they're not his. I found this cat on my way home from school. Someone had placed her in a small box and left her all alone near the steps of my school."
"MEOW!" Bouyo rubbed the side of his face against Kagome's leg.
"Gomen, Bouyo!" She smiled and turned to leave the room. "I need a baaaaaath." She grumbled to herself.
Souta, grandpa and her mother looked at each other in disbelief. Her lack of interest was quite a surprise to them. "I guess all she really wants is a bath." Souta commented. His mother nodded in agreement and laughed.
Kagome was racing around the house looking for things that she needed to take back with her, but could hardly find anything that she needed. "Did you buy more bandages mama?" Her mother nodded. "I put them in your room. You'll find most everything that you need in your room. I knew you would be back soon and you're always in such a hurry so I thought I would make it easy for you this time. Why don't you take a nice bath and relax a bit before you hurry back?"
Kagome hugged her mom and hurried up to her room. "Can't mama, I have no time for that now! I have to hurry back!" *If Sesshoumaru hadn't stopped me, I could've taken one easily!* "YES! Here they are!" *I need these...and these...and yes...of course I need this.* She finished packing her backpack and set it down on the edge of her bed. "Done!"
She threw herself onto her bed and stared up at the ceiling. *Ummm...this feels soooo nice.* She closed her eyes and lay there thinking about Inuyasha. *How can I be with you when I know all you think about is her? Is that all you see in me, Inuyasha? Just Kikyou? Am I not more then a clone of your precious KIKYOU?!*
She opened her eyes and was greeted with two golden ones staring right back at her. *I have to be dreaming. Yes, that's it, I'm dreaming.* She thought sarcastically. She pinched Inuyasha's arm. "OWW! BAKA! What was that for?" Kagome laughed. "Gomen...gomen...gomen!" *Well, it was better then pinching myself* She snickered to herself.
"What is wrong with you? You've been day dreaming and sighing way too much lately. What did I do this time to make you run away?"
"Run away? What do you mean Inuyasha?"
"You left without saying a word and now your acting strange again. Are you ill?" Inuyasha felt her forehead with his palm.
Kagome frantically waved her hands in front of him. "No, no, no! Nothing like that. I feel fine. I just wanted to come home for a few things and maybe...well...never mind."
"You could have told me. I would've brought you here myself." Inuyasha growled. Kagome rolled her eyes. *Yep, that's what I was afraid you'd say.*
"I don't need you to bring me home everytime I visit my family. Sometimes I need my space. Time to think. You know?"
Inuyasha stared at her blankly. *Ok. Maybe he doesn't know.* Kagome thought sarcastically.
"Next time..." Inuyasha wrapped his arms around her, craddling her in a warm embrace. *Inu...yasha?* Kagome began to blush a light shade of pink.
Inuyasha growled, pushed her away, then stood up and grabbed her backpack. "NEXT TIME TELL SOMEONE YOU'RE LEAVING! SANGO WAS WORRIED!" Inuyasha shouted. Kagome grinned inwardly. *Yes, and so were you. Why can't you just admit it? Baka!*
Inuyasha rushed Kagome along. Her goodbyes were shorter then usual. She barely hugged her mother before Inuyasha picked her up and forced her onto his back. "We gotta go, Kagome. We can't wait all day." Inuyasha was his usual patient self. Kagome rolled her eyes and forced a smile on her face.
"Goodbye Mama! Bye Grandpa! Bye Souta! Take care of those kittens!"
"I will." Souta shouted back.
"She's always in such a hurry. I didn't even get to ask her when she would be returning. I'm running out of possible illnesses for her to have." Grandpa scratched his head. "I suppose I could tell the school that she signed up to be an exchange student."

Kagome climbed out of the well behind Inuyasha.
"Kagome!" Shippo ran up to Kagome and hugged her tightly. "Inuyasha was worried about you so he went looking for you. I knew you were fine, but Inu..." BAM!!! Inuyasha pounded Shippo on the top of his head with his fist before Shippo could finish his sentence. "KAGOME! INUYASHA'S SO MEEEEEAN!!! I was only trying to tell her that you were concerned, In-u-ya-sha!"
"Be quiet or I'll do it again!" Inuyasha readied his fist for the next attack on the small kitsune. Shippo hid behind Kagome for protection.
"INUYASHA! OSWARI!" BAM!
"Ka-go-me!" Kagome smirked, folded her arms in front of her chest and closed her eyes. With a calm voice she repeated herself in much calmer tone. "Oswari." BAM!
"Temee!!!!!!"
"Oswari, oswari, oswari, oswari...OSWARI!"" BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM!!! Inuyasha whimpered softly.
"I think she killed him, Miroku." Shippo watched Inuyasha for signs of life. He wriggled a bit as he laggingly tried to pull his face away from the ground.
"No, I think he'll live to fight one more battle, Shippo." Miroku mused.
Sango snickered aloud. Inuyasha raised his head and cast her a dirty look. Sango grinned and walked away with Kagome.
"I wish I could do that to a certain monk sometimes." Sango chuckled.
Miroku smiled and scratched his head. "Now why would you want to go and do that to me Sango?" Sango turned and gave him an evil glare. "Uhh...I think I'll wait for Inuyasha. You girls go on ahead. We'll catch up." Miroku laughed nervously.
*Sometimes I don't get him. One second he's swooning over me...the next he's rude and arrogant. I bet when he hugged me he was thinking about KIKYOU! That's right, Kagome. He wasn't thinking about you! And why should he anyway? She's much prettier and...and...* She shook her head. *Oh, what am I doing? I'm getting angry at Inuyasha for loving Kikyou? I have to stop being so jealous.* She put her best smile on her face. *I can't be mad at him. It's not his fault. It's not like he asked me to stay here with him. I chose to stay.* Kagome sighed. *Even so, it hurts to know that he can freely admit his love for Kikyou, but he can't even admit that he 'likes' me. Give it up Kagome! You'll always be second best.*
"Kagome? Are you alright?" Sango placed her hand on Kagome's shoulder. "Inuyasha really was worried about you. You know that, right?" Kagome nodded slowly. "He loves you very much, even though he tries his best to hide it." Kagome began to blush. *Wow, it was as if she heard everything that I was thinking.* "Thank you Sango." She smiled at her meekly. "My mind tells me that he loves me, but in my heart..." Kagome sighed.
Inuyasha managed to get up and sit Indian-style with his arms folded in front of him, eyes closed and his head turned away from Kagome. He was brooding over her punishment.
"Awww, come on Inuyasha. She's 'sat' you worse then that before." Miroku joked.
Inuyasha's ears pulled back and his eyes flew open. He could hear something coming towards them fast. He stood up and looked around. He felt a presence surrounding them now. *Kagome!*
"What's wrong, Inuyasha?"
"Something's not right. The forest...it's too quiet. And...a moment ago, I thought I heard whispering." A rush of adrenolin burst through him. "Kagome!" He sprinted toward the girls in a panic. Something was about to happen, he could sense it, but he couldn't smell anything in the air nor could he see what it was that left him with this uneasy feeling deep in his gut.
"KAGOME!" Inuyasha shouted as he raced through the forest. Kagome stopped walking and turned around to see a very aggitated hanyou running after her.
"Inuyasha?" Kagome looked confused. "What's wrong?"
Inuyasha stopped in front of the girls and surveyed the area as he raised his arms and backed his way against them in a protective manor. "Kagome." Inuyasha whispered "There's something here...watching us." She nodded and stood very still. *Naraku?* Inuyasha growled when Naraku's name came to mind and he immediately placed his hand on Tessaiga's hilt.
"What do you sense Inuyasha?" Sango asked.
"Something evil. I can feel an evil aura within these trees. It's hiding like a coward in the shadows, but I can feel it's presence. COME OUT! SHOW YOURSELF!"
Only moments later, Miroku and Shippo entered the clearing and joined their friends. "Inuyasha...I can sense..."
"I know. Whatever it is, it's hiding cowardly amongst these trees!"
The wind picked up and and blew leaves in a swirl around Kagomes feet. A chill of cool air rushed up her body and brushed lightly against her cheek. She shivered and traced the side of her cheek with the back of her fingers. *What was that?* Kagome became anxious. She wanted to run, but she wasn't sure why. The temperature seemed to drop suddenly, once again. A much cooler wind began to blow. She tried not to shiver but her body had already begun to react to the sudden change in temerature. *I thought it was nothing at the time, but this happened just before Sesshoumaru stopped me this morning at the well. He can't be the one doing this...or could he?*

"Sesshou-ma-ru-sa-ma....Sesshou-ma-ru-sa-ma..." Rin broke into song.
