Chapter 1
Kagome could feel the wind rushing past her as she ran in a hurry towards the forest. With panic in her eyes, she ran for her life, still not sure of what she was running from exactly. `That dream had been so vague' she thought to herself, `but it felt so real and something that serious can not be taken lightly'. In her dream, it seemed like she was talking to herself, only and older version of her surrounded in a brilliant pink light telling her to run for the forest and that she was in danger. As soon as she woke up she started running, past her mother and little brother's questioning glances. She ran despite herself until she needed to stop to catch her breath.
“I need to rest; if I don't stop now I'm going to pass out.” She sat down in the shade of a tree, but not before meticulously searching her surroundings for any potential danger. The wind brushed her silky, raven hair over her fair shoulders as she closed her eyes against her fears.
“I'm being ridiculous,” she laughed aloud, “How am I going to get so paranoid over a dream”. She began thinking over the images that came in her dream, yet they went by so fast it seemed like a blur. `I remember the image of me…a pink light… the shine of metal…fangs…but what could it all mean?! Somebody please send me a sign!'
Suddenly, as if hearing her thoughts, a pulsing began to brew in the winds and a light began heading straight toward her. Kagome squinted her eyes against it as she tried to decipher what it was. The light began increasing in speed as it came closer to her and she hid behind her hands and ducked as it appeared to come right at her. She squealed as she instantly felt a thump in the ground. Slowly she moved her fingers from in front of her eyes to see what almost hit her.
The sword seemed almost mystical in the morning sun. The metal gleamed with a pure aura of light. The tip was stuck in the ground and the hilt was facing her, almost as if it was waiting for her to grab it. She stood up and looked around the corner to see if anyone was there to claim the sword or something before gently fingering the hilt of the sword. She glided her hand around it in a tight grasp and pulled the sword from the ground. She had to hold it firmly in both hands just to keep it balanced and she stared at it with the wide-eyed wonderment of a child. The sword began to pulse once again and Kagome began hearing quiet, yet firm words in her head.
*Your destiny now begins* She swung her head around quickly both ways to look for the direction from which the voice came from, but the truth was, she never actually heard a voice. The words began to form again.
*Your destiny now begins Kagome. * Kagome looked down at the sword. `Is this sword communicating with me? Can I hear its thoughts? Can it hear mine? How did it know my name? What's going on here?!' She thought in a panic. She focused on the sword and closed her eyes. `Maybe I can talk back to it'.
*What are you? How do you know me? * Kagome thinks to the sword.
*I am Tenseiga. I will help you fulfill your destiny on this earth*, the sword replied. `This is too unreal' Kagome thinks to herself, `It's like we're communicating telepathically.'
*Do you know anything about the danger I am in? Are you here to protect me? *
*I am here to help you Lady Kagome. The world you live in is not what it seems. Evil is corrupting everything you know. It is up to you to stop it before it's too late Miko Kagome. *
*What do you mean evil…and why did you call me a miko? *
*That is what you are Lady Kagome. You can talk to the spirits in everything as long as you're open to it. You have the powers of purity and so do I. Together we can destroy this evil. Since Dracula died, a vampire-demon named Naraku is attempting to rule the world. He, his wife Kikyo, and their minions will go to any lengths to get rid of you because you are the only one who can put an end to it. *
*This is all too much. I know nothing about being a miko. How am I supposed to save the entire world from evil? *
*I will train you Lady Kagome. Together we can complete this mission. We must beware of those out to get you, however. Remember, nothing is as it seems. Carry me with you in this sheath and I will put a barrier around you to protect you against attacks. It will only stop direct attacks weakly, not keep your enemies away at all times, but it is the best I can do. *
*Okay, …but how am I going to explain a sword to my friends or the teachers at school? *
*Do not worry; I will be invisible to all who would not understand. It is for your own safety miko. Remember, nothing is what it seems. Your destiny now begins. *
The light of the sword dimmed down until it appeared as nothing more than an ordinary sword. Kagome strapped the sheath around her waist and put the sword away. She then turned back toward her home, the shrine that her family owned, and walked with her newfound companion and her newfound confidence.
