Prologue

Sesshoumaru stepped inside his ‘new’ apartment and closed the door behind him. He walked into the kitchen and flipped the light switch on, standing still to let his eyes adjust to the light. He’d just finished helping his half brother move into his ninjen wench’s apartment.

He grabbed a bottle of water from the refrigerator and walked into the living room. Unscrewing the cap, he sat on the couch and took a swig, letting the cool water run down his throat. He thought about Inuyasha and his ninjen, Kagome. They seemed happy together. In fact, Sesshoumaru didn’t think he had ever seen Inuyasha as happy with any woman as he was with Kagome Higurashi.

Inuyasha and Kagome had only met a week ago, but the couple had formed an instant bond. Sesshoumaru was happy for his brother, but he couldn’t imagine ever finding a woman who could do to him, what Kagome had done to Inuyasha. It wasn’t that he was entirely against the idea of falling in love, only the amount of vulnerability it took to reach that state of emotion. And Sesshoumaru Taisho was not a man of vulnerability. To show vulnerability was to show weakness, and to admit weakness was to admit defeat. He would not be defeated for the sake of the love of a woman.

It’s not like he had the time for a love life anyway. He was on the verge of losing his company to a bunch of traitorous scavengers, and the last thing he needed was the kind of distraction only a woman could bring. His lawyer had yet to make any progress on his end, and Sesshoumaru was starting to lose faith in the man. Naraku had been the one to suggest his two week ‘vacation’, and with only one week left, Sesshoumaru was anxious to get back to his work at Taisho Corporations. And that was even if he had a Taisho Corporations to go back to.

No, I definitely do not need any distractions right now.

Yes, but you still have a date tomorrow night.

It’s not a date. It’s only dinner.

Only dinner with a very beautiful, very intelligent woman.

You forgot smart-mouthed, infuriating, and sneaky.

And that fascinates you, admit it.

Sesshoumaru leaned over, hands between his knees and tapped the sides of the water bottle with his claws. He would admit that there was something about Rin Saito that spiked his interest. She was certainly not like any of the women he had dated in the past. Women who cared more about their money and how they could get their hands on his money than they did about him. Cold and calculating; stuck in their own vain worlds. No, Rin was definitely nothing like them. She was….

“Trouble.”
