Months later Kagome cursed as waves of pain washed over her. Each one a punishing reminder of joy and self-hate. Encouraging words barely penetrated the haze she was in and with a final cry of pain she fell back, panting. The small cry was soothing to hear and the elation in her husband’s voice brought new meaning to shame as he rushed away. "A girl Kagome! We have a daughter!" She smiled even as the news hurt inside. Another lie, but a wonderful gift.

As he held his brand new child he felt the loss in a whole new way. This would be his second son. Miroku beamed at his wife but frowned when he looked away. He never really gave much thought to missing most of his hidden son's life but now he felt as though he had truly lost something. However; he was happy knowing she was happy. His guilt lie deep knowing this wasn’t his first or even second child, but his third. Only days after his daughter had been born to another family his son had arrived and he took joy knowing this one he would see grow in person. This one he would have a part in raising.

Years passed and families grew. Kagome relished the opportunity when her husband decided to take treatments and they finally had twins, fraternal, that were so similar to their older siblings it was astonishing that they all were not the same genetics. She was wondrously glad to have given Inuyasha true children and chose to stop regretting in any was the actions that brought her this amazing family.

Miroku stood in the crowd unnoticed. He felt proud as the boy walked across the stage to accept the diploma waiting on the other side. Valedictorian, who would have guessed. As the recipient made their speech he was drawn to how similar they were. Similar build, same eyes but very different all at once. It was unfortunate that he could not go congratulate this new graduate as the gathering ended in cheers. His eyes followed the crowd till they landed on another familiar face. She kissed the boy soundly on the cheek and he blushed, waving her off. A man he had only seen in images hugged the boy fiercely and Miroku felt stung. That was the boy’s true father, the one who raised him. He was a bit dazed over how much he and this scowling man resembled each other. Though his hair was longer by far, it matched Miroku's color closely. The eyes were both violet but maybe a shade more red in the eyes of this stranger. He was afraid to approach yet couldn’t stay far, loathe to miss much and curious to hear.

He found a good spot where he was hidden and listened. "Oh you looked so wonderful up there Kin!" The feminine voice he knew exclaimed. "Mama..." The boy sounded a bit like him, he thought. "Leave off the boy Kags, your smother him." A voice he never heard spoke up. "Inuyasha! I’m just saying I am proud of him!" She protested. Chancing a look around the corner he watched the other man beam with pride himself. "We both are." He said. His fond look spoke volumes about his love for the boy and Miroku felt reassured that his son had been loved and raised well. The boy was bashful and kicked at the dirt. "Thanks, guys." Then he perked up at the sound of another teen calling his name. "I gotta go, I’ll see you tomorrow." He gave his mother a peck on the cheek and shook his father’s hand before running off to meet his friends. The parents watched with fondness till he was out of sight before turning to each other.

"I better be getting back, they were real anxious about this contract." The man said to Kagome who nodded and rose up for a quick kiss. "I’ll see you at dinner." Then he was gone in the crowd. After a beat had passed Miroku moved into sight and waited, watching the beauty that captured him long ago. Age had only done her better and she looked refined, elegant in her wispy lavender dress. Her long legs tan from the sun peered out from under the short flowing skirt and he watched, bemused at no matter how long apart or what their lives entailed, he still was moved just looking at her.

Kagome would be hard pressed to say what alerted her to his presence, maybe just the feeling of being watched and she turned. Sunlight changed his appearance some, as she had always seen in indoors or at night. The blue in his indigo shirt set off his violet eyes as they glimmered at her. She flushed but smiled and walked to him. "You came." She breathed. His smile widened. "I would not have missed it." She beamed at him. I can’t imagine how you must feel, watching but not a part of it." Her sadness was evident but she smiled through it. "You have done amazing with him, I am very proud even if he doesn’t know who I am." She was pleased he thought so and was hard pressed not to hug him. His hair had a few flecks of grey now, but it only served to make him look more distinguished and she soon found it growing more and more difficult not to touch him.

Her squirming must have caught his eye because he smirked, a look that belied his innocent tone. "Are you alright, miss Kagome?" She scrunched her nose at being caught but was honest. "I’m trying to resist." She stated vaguely and he laughed. "Resist? Are my charms still that good?" And she smacked him. He held up his hands in defeat, still chuckling. "Okay, okay. I’m sorry. I feel the same. That dress does tempt me so." She glanced down as if trying to see it and he couldn’t help but laugh harder. She looked back at him and smiled in a shy way, her eyes seemed to absorb him. "I have missed you." He sobered and nodded. Silence grew as the bleachers beside them emptied till there was only the cleaning crew tidying the chairs.

Kagome studied him, serious eyes boring into his. "Do you think we should ever tell them?" He didn’t need to ask what she meant. Part of him wanted to say yes, he would love nothing more than to know his son or the daughter that had her mother’s eyes and his smile. He thought of his wife and children at home and found himself shaking his head. "It would cause more harm I think, than it would do well." She frowned, confused. "I know you want to know them." Again he knew without words. "You’re right, I would but not at the cost of all we have built. I would not trade the love I have or the happiness you have for that selfish purpose." She shook her head, stepping closer to him. "It isn’t selfish, wanting to be a part of your son’s life."

She watched him, trying to understand what he needed from her. "But it is my dear. It would shake the core of everyone’s foundation and for what? They have a father, and I think he has done very well." She smiled, thinking of her overprotective husband when it came to their daughters and the pride in his eyes for his son today. "Thank you." She whispered. "You are welcome." He replied, just as softly looking down into her eyes. Her body acted before she could think and her arms wrapped around him in a hug. He blinked but quickly enfolded her in his embrace, resting his cheek on her hair and taking in the familiar scent.

A few beats passed, relishing the company of each other. So much yet so little had happened between them. Kagome pulled back and looked into the face of the man who had given her far more than she would ever be able to give back. This time, when urges took them they met halfway. The kiss was sweet, pulling deep from within as they reunited in ways they had pushed aside for years. Instead of the overwhelming blaze that always caught them, it was slow and warm. When he pulled back to look into her flushed gaze he found a care in her eyes he did not expect. In a way, he loved this woman though she was not his.

The look in his eyes caught her breath and she reached up to touch his face. She traced the line of his mouth, his cheek and eyes. There were the faintest signs of lines at the creases now. All at once she desired him, to feel his touch and return it. It was something she never understood as no one else ever kept her so entranced. It never touched the depth of her love for her husband but it was different and strong. She tugged him into a sheltered spot under the bleachers and blushed deeply, pulling him to her and resuming the kiss they started.

Again, Miroku could not resist her call, her desire or his for her. He laid her down on the soft grass and touched her. Her responsiveness never seemed to change and she was arching into his hands in seconds. He tried to go slow, memorizing her. This was likely the last they would ever see each other. He would have to make a point of it because this was unavoidable whenever they were close enough to touch. Her pert breasts were lavished with attention until she was pleading with him. His hands slid down to tease at her womanhood and brush aside the flimsy material blocking his path. His mouth found her and Kagome was forced to bite her hand to keep her silence as he brought her, once, twice. However when he pushed back she moved with him. Moving with deftness to remove his belt and knelt to return the favor. It was he who was hard pressed to keep silent as she tortured him with a tongue that burned through him. He pulled her away before he lost in and dragged her into his lap. The skirt of her dress blocking his view but her lowered her onto him with ease.

Kagome forced a slow pace, trying to memorize this feeling as it built. Each absorbed in the other. He kissed her lips when she bit them, his muscles twitched under her dancing fingers. When he could take no more, he laid her back and quickened the pace till he was breathless and she was whimpering and it peaked. Both groaned under the strain of their bodies colliding in the most intimate of ways and suddenly they fell. She moaned in his mouth and he responded, this peak was different than the ones before, lasting, washing over them in waves that seemed to never cease.

He caressed her cheek with the back of his hand when they redressed. Wholly unapologetic in his smile. She laughed softly and fixed his collar. "I don’t know what to say." Kagome said as they walked to their cars. "Me as well." Miroku commented in return. "Except I hope this time there isn’t another... well you know." He gestured towards her abdomen. Her smile spoke volumes and she shook her head. He glanced up to her and found he had to say it. "Thank you Kagome, for doing the honor of bearing my children." He said solemnly but his eyes were full of mirth. Her laughter echoed through the parking lot.

This time, they parted with a kiss and easy smiles. The years ahead would never bring them together again but they always kept in touch, updating the other and remembering with fondness the camaraderie between them. They were shocked when their completely unrelated grandchildren married and their families became one. One night led to strange and wonderful consequences but even at their old age, it was their secret and one they could not bring themselves to regret.
