Chapter 2: The Truth

(AN: sorry for this, but have you noticed how much authors have used the word "Revelations" as a chapter title?)

Last Time

"I guess we should tell her that -" Kagome couldn't take it anymore and she pushed through the door. She gasped. Standing in her kitchen was her father - but he couldn't be her father!!

"Daddy…you're alive…and you're…demon?!" Kagome gasped.

This Time

"Yes, Kags, I'm alive, and a demon." her father looked to the side, not meeting Kagome's gaze.

"Why? Why did you leave Souta and me alone?" Kagome asked, tears starting to gather in her eyes.

"I…I…" her father stuttered. Kagome's mother stood there nervously. Kagome just ran to her room, thinking her father hated them so he abandoned them.

"Kagome, wait!" her father said. "I better go and tell her." he told his mate. Mrs. Higurashi nodded, and started making some oden, hands shaking.

"Kagome…" her father whispered as he knocked on the door.

He heard Kagome whisper softly, "Do you really hate me that much? (sigh) I guess you owe me an explanation." Kagome opened the door. Mr. Higurashi stepped in.

"I guess I do…it started when I met your mother. You see, we lived in the feudal era. I met your mother when I was scouting my lands, you see, I am…the Lord of the Southern Lands now. I fell in love eventually with your mother, as did she with me." her father explained.

"But why are we here? And why did you leave us?" Kagome asked, sitting on her bed.

"My mother and father didn't approve of our mating, or in human language, marriage. Eventually, my uncle," he narrowed his eyes, "sent assassinators to kill your mother. I knew she wasn't safe, and at the time, and you were but a pup. Therefore, I sent my loyal servant to find out more about the magical well I had heard of from an old miko. I eventually found out that if that the magical well led to the future, how many years I am not sure. So, in an attempt to save your mother, I sent both of you into the future, casting a spell on you so that you wouldn't remember what happened as a pup until revealed."

"So…if you're a demon, am I a hanyou?" Kagome asked, still dazed with all the information.

"No, you are a full blood inu-youkai." Kaemon (that's a real jap name!!) said.

"But…that means ok -" Kagome was interrupted.

"Yes, I am a full inu-youkai." Kothana said.

"But how come I look, and smell human?" Kagome asked, half already knowing the answer.

"We put an extremely strong concealing spell on you, but we can remove it any time we want." Kothana said.

"Would you like us to remove it for the time?" Kaemon said.

"S…s…sure…" Kagome said. Kaemon concentrated for a little bit, and suddenly Kagome was surrounded in a bright pink light.

~*Kagome's POV*~

I had expected it to hurt, but, surprisingly, it didn't. I had a sort of…tingly feeling up my spine, and suddenly I could smell everything. The calming sweet scent of my mother, the sandalwood of my father, and even my own scent - flower-ish, but not at the same time. I opened my eyes, not realizing I had closed them, and my vision had become much clearer and sharper. I walked in front of the mirror in my room, and I gasped. My teeth had grown more sharper, and I had fangs!! Taking it a look at my hair, it had grown longer until it reached my butt. Instead of the pitch black it was before, it had blue highlights streaking through it. My bangs had grown to the length that it could frame my face, and they were blue too. My eyes were even more blue, and I looked at my hands. They had claws.

Looking a little higher, I mentally groaned…'Great…they're bigger...' (for those who don't know, she's talking about her *ahem* cleavage…) My school uniform had grown tighter at the top, and looser at the waist. Since I had grown taller, the skirt covered even less…

"What am I going to do when Inu-yasha sees me like this…" I said, trying to imagine him yelling at me thinking I used the power of the shards or something.

"Inu-yasha?" Kaemon asked, confused.

"Don't worry, dear, here, I'll teach you how to remove and replace your concealing spell. Close your eyes, and concentrate on how you look in your human form. Now, imagine yourself looking like that again."

~*Normal POV*~

Kagome was surrounded in a purplish glow this time, and she opened her eyes to meet the human Kagome again in the mirror.

"Kaemon, I think I have to explain things to you. Come with me downstairs." Kothana said. Kaemon nodded, and Kothana took his hand and started walking.

"Wait!" Kagome said. They halted. "Mama , can I see your inu-youkai form?" Kothana nodded, and was surrounded by a blue light. When she reappeared, there stood a beautiful demon with long, silver-streaked black hair. The 2 adults walked downstairs to talk, leaving Kagome in her room to think about the recent turn of events. Looking outside, she saw that the light of day had started to fade. She sighed, thanked Kami-sama that she didn't have a tail, and drifted off to sleep.

~*Kagome's Dream*~

Kagome seemed to be in a beautiful field full of different kinds of flowers. Remembering it to be a field in the feudal era, she walked through it picking a few flowers here and there.

"Kagome." she heard a female's voice call her name.

"H…h…hello?" Kagome said uncertainly.

"Turn around." the voice said. Kagome complied, and gasped. Right in front of her stood Midoriko herself! `Why is Midoriko in my dream?' Kagome thought.

"I am here to tell you something. That is why I am in your dream." Kagome's eyes widened. `How did she…?'

"In your dream, there is no such thing as `thinking'. All your thoughts are spoken out loud." Midoriko said simply.

"Oh…." Kagome said, extremely confused about the recent events. "Maybe I'll wake up, and find that this is some weird psycho dream that I dreamt up after a day's travel in the feudal era.." Kagome said. Midoriko smiled at the child.

"I am here to tell you that the final battle is drawing near. Enemies will be allies while allies will betray you. Learning to hate, will disrupt your purity leading to the world's doom." Midoriko said sadly, knowing what was to come for Kagome.

"Midoriko…" Kagome said, asking her a question hat she had forgotten to ask her parents.

"What does that mean? And how am I a miko, but a demon at the same time? Surely Kikyou hadn't been a demon!" Kagome said.

"You will figure that out soon, child. You are a miko, but demon at the same time because you are the destined one to fulfill the prophecy. `Born is she who is misplaced. Destined to defeat the great evil with her purity. Should she fail, the world is doomed to an eternal misery.' If you believe in yourself, Kagome, you will succeed. You must not, in any way, be corrupted as Kikyou was. You are the true protector of the Shikon No Tama, jewel given by the gods to test the Earth's fate." Midoriko explained.

Kagome nodded, trying to figure out what the prophecy meant. "So was Kikyou

a demon too?" she asked.

"The Shikon was created with the help of part of your soul. Kikyou, destined to protect the jewel until you arrived, looked like you because of the Shikon. You could almost say that SHE is the reincarnation of you though you weren't born at the time. I am part of the Shikon, so you will be able to call on me if need be." she answered.

"B..but how - " Kagome suddenly felt tingly all of a sudden.

"You are waking up…" Midoriko said. "Good luck, Kagome. Your powers shall awake soon. Good luck, child. Good luck." Midoriko whispered as Kagome faded away from view. "If only she knew what path lies ahead of her…" could be heard as Midoriko disappeared from sight.

Kagome sat up quickly, recalling the events of last night's dream. `I understand the part about being misplaced, since I'm not actually the reincarnation of Kikyou…I think the great evil is Naraku…but then, if I am destined to defeat Naraku, and I fail, what will become of the world? Also, she said ene - ' she was interrupted by the shrill ringing of the telephone. Kagome picked it up.

"Moshi moshi?" Kagome said.

"Kagome? It's me, Yuka. Hojo said something about seeing you at the shrine one day while he was passing it. Do you want to go Christmas shopping with me and Eri? It is already December 12th!!" Yuka said, excited.

"Oh yea!! I forgot that it was already Christmas!! Sure, I'll go with you!" Kagome exclaimed, still holding the cordless phone, and said, "Give me 20 minutes, and I'll be at your house! Ja!" Kagome said, and she faintly heard a "Ok, ja." on the other line before she hung up. She concentrated, transforming into her demon form, and used her speed to do her hygiene routine in the morning quickly. 15 minutes later, she immerged from the shower in a towel. Grabbing a simple pair of jeans, a form-fitting sweater, she rushed downstairs.

"Mama, Papa, may I go shopping with my friends? It's for Christmas presents, and I'm going with Yuka and Eri!" Kagome said hurredly.

"Of course you can, Kagome! Do you need anything, money?" her mom said.

"No, it's ok, it's the family's presents after all, I'm using my money!" Kagome said. Like most people, she received allowance. Since she had thought that her father had been rich, the owner of a company, she had gotten 10000 yen each week for allowance (I have no clue how much that is in Canada, but I think around $150 dollars or something) and sine she had been in the feudal era so long, she had LOTS of money to spend.

"Ok, dear. Just be back for dinner!" Kothana said. "We have something to discuss with you."

"Sure!" Kagome said. Grabbing her wallet and jacket, she looked around. No one was there to see her demon form. She started running, wanting to test out her demon speed. Everything turned to a blur. `Wow, I'm actually fast!' Less than 6 seconds later, she stopped in front of Yuka's house, and changed back into her human form.

~*3 hours later*~

The girls chatted excitedly about their gifts. Kagome had ended up buying a new video game for Souta, the one that he had always wanted, she bought her mom a nice kimono, since she couldn't think of anything. She bought one of those machines for grandpa for his sore feet, and she bought a sword for her father since she also couldn't think of anything to get for him. I mean, what would a demon want? He IS the Lord of the Southern Lands! She planned on going back to the feudal era today to ask what her friends wanted. Kagome had bought herself a necklace with a purplish crescent moon on it - she had seen it in a jewelry store, and it had captured her eye. Strangely, at the time, she had been reminded of Sesshoumaru.

~*Back at the Feudal Era*~

(Sesshoumaru's POV)

I was hiding behind the trees, in the well's clearing. I had masked my presence, and scent, not wanting the hanyou to find me. But then again, he was with the clay bitch. I would never understand why he chose a dead, clay pot over a healthy, living beaut - woman. `She is not beautiful. Just exceptionally…good looking for humans. And her scent is just pleasant…'

`Admit it, she's beautiful.' I growled, startling the creatures around me.

`She is not beautiful! And when was the last time I had heard you? Since I was 7 summers old?'

`6. Anyways, you KNOW she's beautiful. Admit it, her scent is - '

`Her scent does not reek like the usual humans. That is not intoxicating.'

`Ha!! How'd you know I was going to say that?' his pesky conscience said triumphantly.

`Go away. Or I will dispose of you.'

`How can you kill yourself? Fine, fine, I'll go, but I'll be back!' it said. My mind went back to the human wench that traveled with the bastard.

`Strange…she disappears into a dry well. But, I can smell the magic from even here. I wonder what is the extent of her true powers…' Suddenly, there was a strange light coming from the well. I kept staring at it, and suddenly, the woman appeared from it, but she didn't carry the strange yellow sack I had seen her with before she had disappeared.

~*Kagome's POV*~

I hopped into the well, just wanting to pop up asking my friends what they would like. I'd give them what they wanted, plus something of my own! I jogged lightly up the path towards the village.

I heard murmurings to my right. `Strange…that's where the Goshinboku is…' I thought as I slowly crept up, masking my scent.

"Do you love my reincarnation? Or is it just me?" I heard Kikyou's voice say. I had long ago gotten over my hate for her. I mean, I couldn't help thinking what I would do after what had happened to me…I mean, being betrayed, resurrected… …

"No, I love only you, Kikyou! I told you that! Kagome's just a shard detector! It's her fault the jewel shattered in the first place! I'll always love you, and only you." I heard Inu-yasha say. I could feel some tears. I had long ago gotten over Inu-yasha, but it hurt to hear him say that I was only a shard detector after all the times we had been with each other. I couldn't hate him - though I didn't know why. I just can't bring myself to…I turned around after I saw them kissing. I didn't want to meddle with their affairs anymore. I forced myself not to cry, and I teleported myself in front of the village. I had taught myself that technique long ago.

~*Normal POV*~

Sesshoumaru had followed Kagome when she started jogging. Hiding himself in the Goshinboku, he wrinkled his nose in disgust because of the undead miko. He shook his head when Inu-yasha said the shard detector part, and Kagome had looked hurt behind the bush she was hiding. He sniffed. `She must of masked her scent…' he thought. Suddenly, she disappeared. He blinked. Assuming that she must have went to the village, where her aura lead to, he too disappeared into a blur. The only reason Sesshoumaru had been following her was because he wished to propose an alliance between Inu-yasha's "group" and himself. Naraku had taken something that was his (AN: Rin. *yawn* Instead of making the chappie 20 pages like I originally planned, I'll update sooner and post the one I'm typing now. Now to find a cliffie…*dodge* what?!) and Sesshoumaru couldn't allow that blow to his honor.

He knew that Naraku was a formidable opponent, and he could defeat him, but he did not want Rin to get hurt. (AN: Awwwwww….) He knew he could just tell her to stay somewhere else, but she always found a way to get to him. Mainly by torturing Jaken. Therefore, he went to the group, wanting to talk to the miko, since she seemed to be the most reasonable one.

He appeared at the village, and the villagers looked at him fearfully, knowing that he wouldn't hesitate to kill them in one swipe. He walked calmly towards the now unmasked scent, who was currently in the presence of a certain kitsune, taijia, monk, and old priestess.

(In the hut)

"Guys, what would you like for Christmas?" Kagome asked.

"'Kris - mis? What's that?" Shippou asked.

"Christmas is a time when we celebrate the birth of a god in some religions. For other people, it is just a time when the family gets together and exchanges presents. So what would you like, Shippou?" Kagome said gently to the kitsune she had adopted as her own.

"Candy!! I want that!! And lot's of it!" Shippou squealed, launching himself at Kagome. She smiled. "Ok, but I don't want you eating too much at a time, ok?" The cute little pup nodded vigorously.

"Sango?" Kagome looked towards her.

"I would like some clothes from your era. Not the ones you are wearing now," Sango eyed Kagome's outfit, saying it quickly as Miroku perked up, "Just ones that would be suitable for fighting!"

"Sure!" Kagome said.

"Arigato!" exclaimed Sango.

"Miroku? What would you like?" Kagome asked.

"I would like one of the books from your time. They seem to be very interesting." Miroku said.

"Sure! I'll bring you back a story book, and a science book!" Kagome said.

"Kaede?" Kagome turned towards the old priestess sitting by the fire.

"I would like something to do with herbs and medicine." she answered simply.

"Thanks for telling me guys!! I'll be back tomorrow!" Kagome said cheerfully, walking towards the curtain/door (I don't think it was a shoji screen, so I'll call it a door). She bumped into something hard, but warm at the same time. Looking up, she gasped.

"Sesshoumaru?!" Kagome said. (AN: If you reviewed in the first chappie, scroll down to see what I answered to your reviews!! I promise I'll work on `Alone' next!)
