InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Recollections ❯ Chapter One ( Chapter 1 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

Kagome stood in the bushes watching InuYasha gaze at the Goshinboku tree. He had become increasingly distant since Naraku had been defeated, spending much of his time at the tree that tied both the past and future to him. Kagome sighed deeply, the tears trying to break free from her eyes. No, she would not cry. All InuYasha needed was some time to resolve the conflicts that he had been unable to because of battling Naraku. So much pain and loss, and now there was finally a chance to grieve. Taking another deep breath Kagome turned and left InuYasha to his memories.

“Kagome?”

Startled, Kagome looked up. “Nani?”

“Are you having them again dear?” Ms. Higurashi asked her daughter as she set two cups of tea on the table, then sat down.

“Oh, I'm sorry Mama.” Kagome said as she lifted the mug of tea to her lips. “The images just never seem to leave me.”

Scooting closer to her daughter, Ms. Higurashi gently placed her arm around her daughters slumped shoulders. “I know how hard it was for you dear, but it has been such a long time.”

Tears welling in her eyes, “I know mama, but he just keeps haunting me, just like Kikyo haunted him.”

Hugging her daughter close, “I know Kagome, losing your first love can be the most painful thing, but you'll be able to pull through. When your father passed I thought that I would die, but I had you and Sota to take care of, and that pulled me through…”

Pushing away suddenly from her mother, the hot tea spilling across her chest, tears crashing from her eyes. “That's just it mama, you had us, but I…I have no one. He betrayed me mama, and I can't bear to face this world without him.”

Reaching for her daughter, Ms. Higurashi's hand was pushed away as Kagome rose from her chair and ran out of the house.

“What can I do for you Kagome that would ease your suffering. What can I do after it's already been a year?” Ms. Higurashi sighed to herself in the empty house, then rose to clean up the shattered mug on the floor.
