Chapter 3: Betrayels
InuYasha stood in awe as he took in Kagome sitting on the edge of the well, her raven hair floating on the wind. Tipping his head slightly forward, his eyes hungrily devoured every inch of her body, with the sudden realization that this would be the last time he would ever see her. With increasing pain in his chest, he closed the distance between them.
Kagome sat on the edge of the well as she watched InuYasha. His eyes and expression hidden from her view by his silver bangs. Same ol' InuYasha, she thought to herself. `Some things never change.'
Kagome's breath stuck in her throat as InuYasha suddenly walked towards her. Blinking in surprise, she didn't ever have time to stand before he had her wrapped in his arms. Kagome sighed deeply as she felt InuYasha's warm, comforting embrace surround her. Oh, how she loved it in his arms, silver hair wrapping around in the wind. “Aishiteru”, She said softly, pressed against his chest.
InuYasha'a heart clenched at the words he so longed to hear from her lips. Pulling back slightly, he brushed his hand across her cheek, and tilted her face towards his, fearful of the raw emotion she would see there. Looking deep into her heather eyes, he saw her love for him, he saw her trust in him and inwardly cringed at the knowledge that he would be betraying her. Once again crushing her to his chest, he savored the feel of her slight body against his, the one and only scent of his truest love surrounded him. Not wanting to let go, but knowing he must, InuYasha slowly pulled back from a confused Kagome.
“What's wrong InuYasha? You're acting even stranger that usual”, Kagome said softly, her voice held a hint of laughter.
“Ah, nan demo nai.” He said to her. “I just wanted to give you a hug before you went back.”
Reaching out a pressing her hand to his forehead, Kagome said “you sure you're feeling okay?” A small smile played her lips.
“Keh!”
“See, I knew that InuYasha was in there somewhere.” Kagome's eyes lit up at his usual behavior.
InuYasha put his hands together, then turned from her. “You should get going, so you can go to your tests.”
Kagome sighed, `definitely got the attitude back', “it's only for a couple of days, I'll be back to check up with everyone when they get back. I'm gonna bring some more treats for Shippo, plus some more ramen for you.”
InuYasha's ears perked at the mention of his favorite food, but he pushed to thought away as he knew she would never be coming back.
Kagome took a step forward and gently ran her fingers over InuYasha's shoulder before turning to go. “Two days okay?”
“Keh.”
InuYasha stiffened slightly as he heard Kagome jump into the well and pass the time barrier. “You belong in your time Kagome.” Hands clenched, InuYasha stomped from the clearing.

Kagome climbed from the well, a smile playing at her lips. `Baka, InuYasha'. Running up the stairs and out of the well house Kagome realized something felt odd. The slight weight on her chest was gone. Raising her hand to her neckline, Kagome felt the first twinges of panic as she realized she didn't have the Shikon no Tama. Looking frantically around, then rushing back to the well, she didn't see it.
Dropping her backpack, Kagome jumped into the well, only to hit the hard surface at the bottom. Fingers grasping frantically in the dirt, tears leapt to her eyes. Then it hit her, the embrace, the waave of emotion from his eyes. “He was saying goodbye.” Kagome collapsed on her side, the walls of the well seeming to close in about her. “InuYasha…”
