It was close to midnight and everyone who had attended the auction left hours ago leaving just Kagome, Inuyasha, Miroku, Sango, and Kikyo. It had started out with them going over business but Miroku had a surprise. He had saved a 1992 Cabernet Sauvignon from California that he received as a present from a friend. He knew tonight was going to be a special, so after everyone relaxed and had a couple of drinks they decided to call it a night. As they locked up the place they all gathered outside the front door to say goodbye.
“Hey, what happened with Shippo. Wasn’t he suppose to be here to take some pictures for the website,” said Sango.
“He was suppose to. Maybe he lost track of time. He told me he was going to spend the day with his girlfriend Ayumi,” said Miroku.
“Ayumi?” Kagome blurted out. “Sorry, one of my friends is named Ayumi but she never mentioned him before. Who is he,” she asked.
“He is a family friend. Annoying but I’ve known him for a long time. He is in charge of the company website and occasionally the photographer as well,” replied Inuyasha with his arms crossed standing next to Kikyo.
“Hummmm…” Kagome said silently.
“Well….Sango, my place or yours,” Miroku said with a sly look on his face.
“Lets not ruined a good night. How about you go to your place and I to mine,” she replied.
“My dear Sango, at least let me give you a ride home. I want to make sure you make it home in one piece,” said Miroku.
“Well, I guess you can do that for me. I really don’t feel like taking a taxi again.”
“Well, we will see you all later,” said Miroku as he placed an arm on Sango’s upper back, knowing she will feel more comfortable like that.
“Kagome, what happened to Hojo,” said Sango.
“He is waiting for me in the car,” said Kagome.
“Well tell him it was nice to meet him. Give him an apology for me. He’s been in the car for awhile waiting for you.”
“I know. I’ll apologize for that. Goodnight, Sango. Goodnight, Miroku,” she said.
“Goodnight everyone,” Sango said as she and Miroku both walked to his car.
“Kagome, why did you invited Akitoki to the auction,” said Inuyasha to Kagome right before she started to leave.
“Well, I was going to attend by myself but my car wouldn’t start and he was the only one I knew who lived closed enough to give me a ride,” she replied.
“So you have no way getting to work tomorrow?”
“What are you trying to get at Inuyasha?” interrupted Kikyo.
“I was just trying to offer her a ride tomorrow. Believe it or not Kikyo I do need her,” said Inuyasha.
“That’s ok Inuyasha. I will find a way somehow,” said Kagome.
“Are you going to rely on Akitoki,” said Inuyasha.
“Just to take me home tonight. I plan on taking my car to be fixed.”
“See, she has someone who can take her home tonight and to take her to work tomorrow. Lets go,” said Kikyo as she looped her arm around his and slightly pulled towards the direction of his car but Inuyasha wouldn’t move an inch.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, don’t worry about it. Hojo is waiting. Goodnight, Inuyasha. Kikyo,” she finally said, turning around and sprinting to the car.
“Inuyasha, what are you trying to pull,” said Kikyo while looking at Kagome from behind running to a black car with a look of jealousy in her eyes.
“I am just simply offering her a ride to work. If she is truly going to work for me she has a lot to do and I need her there,” said Inuyasha as he led his fiancé to his car.
“It better be just for work and nothing else,” said Kikyo.
Inuyasha didn’t say anything out load as he walked Kikyo to his car. He couldn’t help but think, ‘I was being too nice to her. Why?’ He had to questioned himself. It was strange for him as well.
“You took a while. I hope everything is ok,” said Hojo, leaning on the passenger side of his car, as he saw Kagome heading his way.
“I am SO SORRY Hojo. I didn’t think it would have taken that long or I would have never stayed,” she replied exhausted and slightly out of breath.
“That’s ok. Did you have a fun time,” Hojo replied as he opened the car door for her.
“One of the best nights ever. Thanks a lot for doing this for me Hojo,” she said before he closed her door.
He walked over to the driver side of the car, got in, and turned on the car, “No problem, Higurashi. Are you going to need a ride to work tomorrow?”
“Well, to tell you the truth, I was going to ask you,” she said blushing.
“No problem. Around seven in the morning?” he asked.
“Yes, I hope I’m not asking too much Hojo?”
“You are not asking too much. I like hanging out with you. It’s no bother,” said Hojo with a smile on his face. Kagome looked at him feeling heat coming to her cheeks. She automatically lowered the window on her side.
“Your feeling hot?” Hojo questioned.
“Um yeah…I guess the event took out more energy out of me than I expected,” she replied back.
“Well lets get you home then. Are we still on for tomorrow night?”
“Of course! My mom is going to buy some stuff tomorrow morning so she could make some Kasutera.”
“She doesn’t have to go that far,” said Hojo.
“Yeah, you try to stop her,” chuckled Kagome.
“Yeah,” he laughed with her.
Saturday morning
Kagome couldn’t help but sleep in late. “Kagome, if you are coming with me to do some shopping I suggest you wake up!” mama Higurashi yelled from the Kitchen.
“I’m coming,” she said quietly to herself. She lazily got out of bed and straight into the shower, not even bothering to grab any clothes.
“Well good morning,” grandpa said as he and his daughter were sitting around the kitchen table.
“Good morning,” Kagome said drying her hair with the towel.
“Mama, please tell me your not going to make a big deal about this. It’s only going to be one person coming over and its only Hojo. There is no reason why you should make a big fuss about this.”
“Don’t worry about it Kagome. I’m just going to make something special. Small but special. Its not everyday an old friend of yours comes back to town,” said Mama. Kagome shrugged her shoulders and let it pass. She knew there was no stopping to that woman.
After an hour of grocery shopping she and her mother finally returned back home. “So what did you girls bring,” said Souta as he came down from the stairs and peeked into the bags.
“Nothing for you,” Kagome said with an attitude as she slapped her brothers hand from the bag.
“Kagome, maybe you should start getting ready for tonight,” said Mama.
“Get ready? we still got a couple of hours until he gets here, and what’s wrong with what I got on,” said Kagome as she looked at herself touching her brown mini-skirt and a girly green top with ruffle short sleeves.
“I just thought you might want to look extra pretty today,” she replied.
“Mama, I told you.”
“So you and Hojo huh? If he still the same guy from high school then good luck dating that geek!” said Souta as he stood next to his sister. Kagome couldn’t help it and gave him another big smack on the back of his head.
“OW! You know, one of these days you are going to give me a concussion,” he replied as he tried to rub the pain away from the back of his next. “Mama, I’m gonna go out for a little bit. I’ll be back for the dinner. Bye!” Souta said in a hurry as he made a run for it towards the main door.
Mama managed to get out, “DON’T BE LATE!” before he left the house.
Late in the afternoon
There was a knock on the door, “I’ll get it!” said grandpa. Grandpa slowly walked to the door and opened it. To much of his surprised when he opened it he did not see a tall brunette but of a tall silver haired man.
“Can I help you,” said grandpa.
“Yes, I am here to see Kagome,” said Inuyasha as he stared at the old mans face.
“Just one moment,” grandpa said. “Please come in.” Grandpa invited Inuyasha in and went after his granddaughter. On the way there he saw mama Higurashi.
“Who is it? Was it Hojo?” she asked him.
“No, it was another fella asking for Kagome. Funny though, his face looks so familiar,” said grandpa as he had a look of confusion on his face.
“Really, maybe I’ll go see who he is. Go get Kagome please,” mama said as she let him go and went forward to the front door. It was a big shock to her when she got close and realized who stood there.
“Inuyasha! It’s been so long! Were have you been? What happened that day!” mama said as she got close to Inuyasha while he still stood his guard.
“Um? Have we met before. I’m here to see Kagome,” said the nervous hanyou.
“You don’t remember?” mama said with confusion. ‘Just like Kagome’ she whispered but with the hanyou hears he still heard.
“What do you mean ‘just like Kagome?’” Inuyasha replied.
“Inuyasha, what are you doing here?” said Kagome as she was now beside her mother.
“I’m sorry to show up here on a Saturday but I thought I could go over something with you?”
“Um? Sure but we were about to have dinner?” as soon as Kagome said that there was another knock on the door.
“Kagome, go ahead and show Inuyasha to the kitchen and I’ll get the door. You are staying over for dinner aren’t you, Inuyasha?” mama said.
“Sure, if it is alright with the two of you?” Inuyasha said as he looked over to Kagome.
“Sure, let me show you to the kitchen,” said Kagome as she and Inuyasha entered the living room.
“Hey, this place is very familiar,” said Inuyasha.
“I know, you get that a lot!” she replied giggling.
“Hojo, come on in,” said Mama.
“Hello, Higurashi-san, I brought some flowers here for you and Kagome,” he replied.
“Thank You. Come on in, everyone is already in the kitchen,” said Mama.
“Kagome, Hojo is here,” said Mama as she and Hojo entered the kitchen.
“Hi, Kagome,” said Hojo on reflex. As he entered he noticed Kagome’s grandfather and also someone he wasn’t expecting, Inuyasha.
“Takahashi. I didn’t know you were going to be here as well,” he announced.
“Hojo,” Inuyasha acknowledge his existence. “I came over for business. I didn’t know that Kagome had other planes. They invited me to stay.”
“Please, everyone take a seat,” said Grandpa as he waved a hand at the chairs that surrounded the table in which he took the head chair at the end of the table with Mama at the opposite side.
Kagome reached for the middle chair, which had happened to be the one in front of her, and pulled it out to take a seat.
“Mama, where is Souta,” she asked. Not even a second later Souta came running in the kitchen holding, well more like dragging his girlfriend by the hand.
“Sorry mama were late! It’s Hitomi’s fault,” he joked which made it perfectly legal for Hitome to pinch his upper arm.
“It was not!” Hitomi replied. “Your son here wanted to look at some new soccer equipment even though I told him we were going to be late!”
Mama couldn’t help but laugh, “Just take a seat you two,” she replied as she pointed to the two empty seats on the left side of mama.
As Souta turned to head for the table he finally noticed two men standing on either side of his sister. Even though he remembered one, the boy who went to the same school with his sister he couldn’t place where he had seen the other. ‘He looks so familiar, with that crazy but cool hair’ he thought. “Wait,” he whispered out load. “Inuyasha! Its been a long time! Where have you been!” said Souta excitedly as he walked over and hugged Inuyasha.
Inuyasha had never been so surprisingly shock. Not because this complete stranger came at him fast but because of his reaction. He had done nothing to protect himself. Whenever he saw someone come up to him or just whenever he got close to someone he always stood his guard. It was the one thing he knew he would never let down but right now, at this moment, he had. His amber eyes where huge, half covered with the bangs that came down at his face from the push.
“Do I know you?” he asked. It was the only thing he could think of at this moment.
“Souta!” mama said with a serious look in her eyes. She slightly shook her head no as if she and her son where the only ones in the kitchen but everyone saw her expression. Now it was Souta’s face that looked shock but also disappointed.
“Sorry man! I must have mistaken you for someone else. You just remind me of someone I used to know when I was a kid. He was a friend of mine, sorta’ like a brother,” said Souta as he relaxed back and extended his hand to Inuyasha for a good firm shake.
“It’s ok. If it helps, you do look familiar but that has been happening a lot since I’ve met your sister. I’m her boss. Takahashi, Inuyasha.”
“Come on everyone the food is getting cold,” said mama. She wanted to get the aroma of awkwardness around the kitchen out and over. Souta went back with his girlfriend and sat down next to her at the opposite side of the table while Inuyasha, Kagome, and Hojo sat at the other end, on the right side of mama. Inuyasha was closer to Mama, on the left side of Kagome, and Hojo on the right side closer to grandpa. On the table was some pork with vegetables including Wasabi and vegetable curry. Also on the table was Yakitori, a type of grill chicken, with some Ramen. All in all, everything looked delicious and none of them couldn’t wait any longer to eat.
