I'm very happy with my reviews. You guys show how much you care! That's all, thanks.

Chapter 9: Training

They both remained silent until they had reached beyond the gates. At this Sesshoumaru spoke, "Where?"

"Oh anywhere's fine, so long as there's a demon or two." Rin replied cheerily, happy to have the silence broken.

"There is none. I have," he paused "made sure of that." [1]

Not understanding his meaning, Rin only gave him a puzzled look and kept walking.

Rin

Sesshoumaru stopped so suddenly Rin walked a few yards before she noticed he stopped. Turning around, Rin just saw him staring.

Walking back to his side she asked "What is it, Sesshoumaru-sama?" His gaze was cool, but his posture was more rigid than usual.

"Climb" he said.

Climb? On what? Rin almost voiced this before realizing. His back . He wanted to carry her.

But wordlessly she complied, climbing gracefully on his back.

Just as silently he leapt, moving so fast Rin had to shield her face against the wind.

Sesshoumaru

Why had he let her ride on his back? To move faster of course. Yes, to move faster. Sesshoumaru ignored the other voice. There could be no other reason.

Sesshoumaru noticed Rin was clinging rather uncomfortably on his back. She twitched and wriggled, until he was forced to grab her leg with his arm to make her stop.

That seemed to work because immediately she stilled.

Noiselessly he touched the ground. Unhooking her leg, she slid off.

"I feel them! There are many demons here!" she whispered. Although her could not feel them like she could, Sesshoumaru could smell their evil hides.

It was not long before a bear demon bounded from the forest and attacked. [2]

But Rin's sword was drawn. Side-stepping its claws, Rin moved to swing the sword to the beast's head. The demon saw this and thrust its claws to protect its neck. The claws broke, and the bear demon had to sweep its other massive paw to distract her. It succeeded, forcing Rin to leap from its swing. Quickly though, the young miko saw her chance and drove her sword into it's gut. The bear howled in anguish, before falling dead to the ground. [3]

Sesshoumaru was amazed. That demon was of considerable strength and Rin used none of her miko's power to kill it. But she used her skill and skill alone. That was an incredible feat for a human.

Rin

Sheepishly Rin turned to Sesshoumaru. "I'm usually better than that, sorry."

"Are you?"

"Well, yes. I mean your making me nervous. I'm really not used to being watched.

Which was a lie. Rin was watched all the time at the village. But it was the person who watched her that made the difference.

"Promise not to move? It might make it better. Please?" Rin pleaded.

Sesshoumaru gave a curt nod. "Yes." And Rin swore later on that if you looked for that fraction of a second you could see a smile.

That has to be an improvement. He smiled! She thought happily.

Rin could not feel and Sesshoumaru could not smell the creeping shadow on the ground, so it surprised both when the shadow materialized and engulfed Rin. She did not scream for she hadn't the time. [4]

Sesshoumaru

Cursing his previous words, Sesshoumaru dove to the shadow. And promptly fell out. Turning back, he tried again. And again he fell out.

Eyes red with rage, Sesshoumaru turned and snapped his whip of light at the shadow. But the whip passed harmlessly through it.

"Ku ku ku ku" resounded a voice. It seemed to not come from the shadow bust the air around it. "Is something wrong, Sesshoumaru? Can you not touch my shadow? How frustrating it must be to have the girl here, but unable to reach her. Does it bother you Sesshoumaru?"

It almost seemed Sesshoumaru recognized that voice. Suspiciously he asked, "Who are you?"

"Do you not know? But I am only his shadow. And you cannot touch shadows, can you? So I will ask it again: Does it bother-" the Shadow doubled, wheezing and coughing. "W-what?" it cried. "What is this?"

Pink aura radiating from it. It was overwhelming being one of the most holy things Sesshoumaru had felt. The Shadow suddenly stood erect and it freed long black tendrils of dark shadow from its body.

Sesshoumaru leapt from the onslaught of tendrils, letting them whip menacingly below him. The light grew stronger around it, infecting its shadow body to glow pink.

Then the Shadow split, and some of it ripped into things that looked like black shards that dripped ink. And standing where the amassed shadow was, was a pink light bearing the look of a woman. This woman did not resemble Rin for she was taller and broader.

The light turned to Sesshoumaru before releasing something that was similar to pink lightning, individually seeking the black shards. But two headed to Sesshoumaru. He tried to dodge, but the pink lightning followed and struck.

He felt drained and Sesshoumaru fell towards the ground.

As the light receded the last thing Sesshoumaru remembered was the brilliance retracting and another brilliance, Rin, appearing in its place.

Rin

As the shadow engulfed her, Rin cried out, but the Shadow seemed to dissipate the noise somewhere.

Screaming still, Rin tried to hack it with Mikomi, but to no avail. The Shadow seemed to absorb her blows without a chip or scratch. Can he see me? She thought.

Calling to Sesshoumaru, Rin pounded on the Shadow with her fist, pink light sparking with every strike.

She didn't think he heard it, but Sesshoumaru leapt to her anyway, only to fall through. He attempted it again with the same results. He continued though, with his whip of light. This did no better and moved undamaging through.

The Shadow then seemed to speak, and Rin it's almost familiar voice taunt Sesshoumaru.

But to something unknown, it's voice drove Rin to the brink of insanity.

Gripping her sword, Rin shrieked released everything she had upon the Shadow, and everything went white.

When her vision cleared, Rin saw only enough to see Sesshoumaru's eyes close as he lie on the ground. That looks good. She thought, before falling unconscious herself.

Sesshoumaru

When Sesshoumaru awoke to see a blur of a face staring back. He would have attacked, but his body did not obey and he could not even lift himself.

Which he was glad of a moment later, because when his eyes focused the russet ones of Rin met his.

She smiled. "Your awake! I was worried. Since Jaken found us, you've been out for three hours. I only just woke up."

Baffled, Sesshoumaru thought to before. That shadow, that light. But there was something else there. That voice!

Sesshoumaru knew that voice. It could be no others.

Naraku.

End of Chapter 9: Training

Ho ho! And the plot thickens! You're very lucky I told you who it was. It was pretty obvious. I tried to sound like Naraku, but it's pretty hard. Well, his shadow, at least.

But there were a couple of times I could have stopped. Like when Sesshoumaru fainted or when Rin fainted. Again, great fullness. And show it by reviewing.

1-In the second chapter, I mentioned that Sesshoumaru relieved his anger by killing demons. He's done it before, so the demons learnt to stay away. Tsk, tsk, tsk if you forgot.

2-Rin can sense power or aura like she did with Sesshoumaru. Again I mentioned it.

3-Was the fight scene good? I need to know, in case I have to take them out there so bad.

4-Shadows don't have energy or aura or scent, so they didn't notice it.

It also has come to my attention that I put the [1] and [2]'s in there, but never said what they were. All it was was I mentioning that your lucky I didn't stop. Seriously lucky.

Comments to Websites:

AFF- I realize that the review thing was blocked. You're forgiven. And I fixed the "?" problem.

MM-I can't help the sentences being cut. So don't call me elementary. I accept flames, not insults.

FF-You guys are the best! Thanks!
