His eyes softened as he watched her sleep. For two years, they had traveled together, hunting for those elusive shards. His mind wandered to all those moments with her. She was so complicated, but yet so easy to read. The times when she was mad at him, the times when she tried not to be mad at him. Her worries over his safety, her worries over his heart, to who it belonged to.

 

Countless…but some time has passed

How much do I really know you?

Not as simple as tracing a map with your finger

I know you're trying to hide an anxious look

 

He still couldn't believe that she had managed to work her way into his heart and mind. At first, she had been nothing but the “annoying shard detector”. But slowly, she had become special to him. However, he still wasn't ready to let her know. Embedded emotions and insecurities are hard to dispel.

 

As if to resist the tomorrows that hurry on by

I run around, yet it's a wonder…how my heart is full of you

 

If I look up, the glittering brims over, never to fade

If only I could be like the sun always shining so brightly

 

She is everything I need, he thought. I want to be near her always, just like she promised to always be by my side.

 

But, he mused, I keep pushing her away. For some stupid reason or another, I thrust her farther away from me.

 

I want to be held in your fragrance…for just a little longer

Pulled by my collar into the air outside, I turned away

 

Blurry, white sighs indicate the passing of seasons

Repeating over and over, suddenly made me wonder…why am I here?

 

He sighed. She was his heart. If he removed all the obligations, all the doubts, all the fears, he knew that she would be the one thing remaining in his life. She loved him for him, not for some notion of what he could be. Her love was pure and whole and the most beautiful thing he had ever experienced.

 

I want to stay by your side, forever watch you smile

Want to live in those eyes and feel the fleeting moments

Like a gentle landscape painting colored in an array of hues

I want to stop time forever

 

She stirred and awoke then. She looked up into the tree nearest her and she smiled, light filling her eyes. He smiled back, allowing her to see his feelings in that one simple gesture. One day, he would tell her everything. He would let all that was inside him come tumbling out. He would do whatever it took to make her happy and to smile forever. He would stay with her.

If only I could one day take you away into the vivid seasons

A/N: This is my first songfic. The lyrics are the English translation of “Living In Your Eyes - Hitomi No Jyunin” by L'Arc~En~Ciel. This is probably one of my favorites Laraku songs, and one I plan to play at my wedding, should I ever get married! I think this song pretty much sums up what we all know InuYasha is thinking about Kagome! Thanks for reading!
