**Chap. 14- Life After Destruction

"You love her. Admit it." Darren hassled Rai at the dinner table.

"I do not." He said coldly. His eyes had become dark almost black over the last few weeks, especially when Kareena was not around him like now.

"Yes you do, your eyes brighten every time she walks into the room, every time you hear her speak, every time…" Rai's hand slammed down on the table making everyone jump and silencing Darren.

"I do not love her. If you say anything else about it Darren, I will personally see to it that something on your body is cut off."

"You know Rai, everyone's pretty damn sick of hearing your mouth too. Maybe you should try and keep it shut for awhile." Kagome said standing and taking her own dishes in hand. "It seems you've done enough damage anyway. Darren's only stating a god damn fact."

Rai narrowed his eyes. "I should have stayed with Kikyou."

Everyone's eyes got large and Kagome bristled visibly. Rai turned and walked out of the dining room, leaving his dishes. "Maybe he should have then none of this would have happened." Felis said, putting down his fork. Kagome went to the sink and put her dishes down rinsing them.

"It would have happened anyway, just not the way it has. We would not have been prepared for the rumors to go around, and Rai would not have disassembled the cameras. Face it we would be toast with out him." Darren said trying to see the light side of the story.

"The cameras would have never been there had he not come back." Kagome hissed as she reentered the room.

"True." Darren said sighing. "I just want to see us all like we used to be. Happy and laughing, not mad and arguing. We can't even record with out getting into a fight anymore."

The front door slammed closed suddenly shutting everyone up. Kareena had come home, Rai and her had fought with in that time period and he had taken off. Pounding footsteps went up the stairs, along with sobs to follow.

"Damned if he didn't do it again. I'll go up this time." Kagome offered. No one objected. Felis finished eating as she walked out of the room.

He knocked on her door listening for any sign of life. Footsteps came softly. The door opened slowly. "Oh, Rai. What happened this time?"

He didn't talk just looked at her. His eyes said it all.

"Get in here, it's freezing out there." Kikyou widened the door and let him in. She scanned the area then closed the entrance again locking it.

Kagome dialed the number she had memorized weeks ago. Inuyasha picked up, sounding drowsy. "Hello?"

"It's Kagome. Can you tell me where Kikyou lives?"

"No, I don't know. Hold on maybe my brother will." She heard him out down the receiver then shuffling was heard as he picked it back up again. "Morgan Street and Sage. The house on the north corner, he says it should have a turret in the front."

"Thank you baby."

He yawned before answering. "No problem. I was just catching a nap before going to work, I'll see you later."

"Yeah, bye." Kagome whispered.

"Bye."

They both hung up, Kagome grabbing her coat and rushing out the door.
