**Chap. 20- The Things You Do

Her heart stopped, her breath caught in her throat. Her hands were shaking as Inu took them in his own and placed the ring on her finger. Her mouth went dry and she had to swallow repeated times. Finally she found her voice. "Yes." It came out strangled.

The simple word was so hard to say. "Yes." Then it became easier. "Yes." Inu smiled up at her, and the boys were laughing.

"She's as pale as a sheet." Felis commented.

"Inu I think you scared her." Darren joked.

Inu stood and all he could do was stare into the depths of her eyes.

"I can see the headlines now. Vapor and Fireless Love united in matrimony." Rai laughed.

"I said yes." Kagome said laughing before she hugged Inu. "I'm getting married." The realization just hit her. She stepped back for a moment from Inuyasha. "I'm getting married."

Inu laughed. "Yes, that you are." He kissed her forehead with the lightest of caresses.

She leaned into him with the slightest smile. She wanted to take him to the ground and ride him until the sun went down and appeared over the horizon again. Then she remembered everyone else in the room.

Kagome settled for nuzzling against his neck and folding into his arms. She was silent as everyone's voices swirled around her, then an aura hit her hard in the chest.

Suddenly she raised her head. "No."

"What is it Kagome?" Inu asked releasing her a little so he could look at her face.

"My father." She pushed away from him falling to the floor. Then she pushed her self up to her feet rushing to the music room and locking the door.

The violin was hovering as it had when she felt her father's presence before. "Daddy?"

How could you say yes? You don't even know if the hanyou is faithful to you. She heard the words as if they were silver and golden noted hanging in the air.

"I'm grown up now. I love him father. Please don't hate me for this but you have no choice in the matter."

I do so I am your father. His words hung there again.

"You gave that right up when you decided to kill yourself." She said taking the violin by the neck and throwing it to the ground, crunching it.

Don't do that, I will not be able to come back to you.

"Good." She dropped it to the ground and pulverized it under her foot. "Good bye, Daddy. I don't need you anymore."

A knock on the door made her jump. "Kagome! Please unlock the door."

"I'm coming." She said back. "Rai's going to kill me, he loved this violin." She walked to the door only to be pushed back into the room as soon as it was unlocked. Inu overtook her with kisses.

"We're alone. They went out to eat. I told them we would catch up with them later." His hands slipped under her shirt as his lips slid to her neck.

"Inu." She whispered, the word barely making it out of her mouth. His kisses were drowning her swamping her thinking, and clouding her judgment. He moaned against her.

"Kagome." He sounded pained, and she just wanted to take away his pain.

"I can't." She said softly, running her fingers through his hair, and running into those cute little ears. Kagome took the silky ear into her hand, and felt the way his body reacted. His muscles became taut with want.

"God, Kagome, the things you are doing to me." He whispered against her skin. She dropped her hand.

"I'm sorry. Inu, I can't do this. Not now."

His breath whooshed out in a sigh. "Why not?"

"I'm not ready for this. I want to but my heart is telling me to stop, and I won't go against that." Kagome kissed the top of his head as his hands let her go. The golden orbs she loved so much stared up to her.

"Okay. We will wait. I will respect your wishes, though it is the hardest thing to do right now." His lips found hers, just a feel of air. Inu moved away and sat at the piano. Kagome joined him leaning her head on his shoulder.

Her fingers started to move over the keys slowly. Inu recognized the tune but couldn't quite place it. Then she began to sing, softly but he picked up on it.

"Once upon a midnight's dream…

I found you along side me…

You told me not to be afraid…

And to push myself away…

No one's told me different…

No one tells me a thing…

But once upon my midnight dream…

I found you again beside me…"

She stopped singing and just let hr fingers move over the piano softly. The door opened behind them and both turned to see who it was. Rin stood there, and then walked in not noticing them. She walked to the drums and bent down pulling out a bag. The young girl turned back to the door.

"Rin, what are you doing?" Kagome asked staring at her. The other girl jumped, and then turned to them.

"I didn't realize anyone was here. I'm sorry." The girl's eyes were downcast.

"What are you doing?"

"I can't tell you." She avoided Kagome's eyes.

"Kagome, let her be. She's running errands for me." Inu whispered.

"What errands?" Kagome turned to him, frowning slightly.

Inu rolled his eyes and let out a small laugh. "Wedding."

"Oh. Sorry Rin." Kagome smiled and turned back to the girl, but she had disappeared. "I don't know why I even try…"
