Chapter Five: Remembering

Kagome woke up two day's later in the hospital. She yawned, stretched and took in her surroundings. Hojo sat beside her bed. "Hojo?" she said, confused. "What happened? What are you doing here?"

"I told your mom and Souta I'd sit with you while they got something to eat. You had a stroke or a seizure or something." He said quietly.

"How long was I out?"

"Two day's. Souta found you twitching and moaning in your room, I think he's traumatized. He told me it's his fault but I didn't get what he meant." Hojo shrugged. The door opened and Souta walked in.

"I wasn't very hungry." He said ruefully. He glanced at Kagome then threw himself on her bed sobbing. "Kagome I'm so sorry. It's all my fault."

"Hojo could you leave us alone please?" she asked. Hojo nodded and silently left. Kagome pulled Souta up onto the bed and dried his tears. "Now what do you mean it's your fault?" she asked.

"You've been having the dreams haven't you?" he sniffed. Kagome blinked.

"How did you know?"

"I've been having them too. They help me out; I was sorta depressed after your accident. They told me if the memories came back to suddenly you might be hurt. That's why I wouldn't show you the things I had. I didn't know you'd do what you did."

"Oh Souta honey, it's not your fault. It was my fault for being so stupid. Sango warned me but I didn't listen."

"So do you remember now?"

"Sort of. I have to sort the memories out first. It's a bit nerve racking getting all those memories back in two nights." Kagome massaged her temples. "Do me a favor and don't tell Mom and Grandpa I have my memories back okay?" Souta nodded and Kagome hugged him. A doctor knocked then walked in.

"Good your awake Miss Higurashi. I have a couple of questions to ask you." Kagome gave the young doctor a death glare.

"Excuse me. I'm trying to talk to my brother."

"Oh, of course. I'll come back later." Stammered the doctor caving under Kagome's glare.

"As I was saying, when I get out of here we'll go get a smoothie. I bet I can get us a free one."

"Cool." Souta jumped off the bed. "See ya later."

"That doctor was sort of cute. Tell him he can come in now." She said to Souta's receding back.

"Miss Kagome are you ready to talk?" The doctor stuck his head into the room.

"Of course doc, come on in." the doctor breathed a sigh of relief and came all the way in.

"I'm doctor Kowari." He smiled.

"Kowari huh, what's your first name?"

"I don't really think that matters-"

"What's your first name?"

"Ginta."

"That's a nice name. What do you want to ask me?"

"Do you have any idea what happened right before your seizure?" he pulled out a pen.

"Nope. I was sleep, I hadn't been feeling well that day."

"Hmmm. Did you regain any more memo-"

"How old are you?" interrupted Kagome.

"I'm twenty, Miss Kagome that really has nothing to do with your seizure."

"Drop the Miss and just call me Kagome…Ginta."

"That's really not very appropriate."

"So?" Kagome shrugged and sighed. "No I don't have any new memories. Anything else?"

"Do you think you've lost any memories?"

"Nope it's all there. Now if you're done I have a few questions of my own."

"Sure." He sat down.

"Let's see, are you married? Do you have a girlfriend?"

"Miss Kagome this really isn't very-"

"Just Kagome. Please just answer the question." Kagome gave him a puppy face.

"No to both questions."

"Do you like younger girls? Say around sixteen or seventeen?"

"Miss Kagome-"

"Kagome."

"Kagome, this really isn't a conversation for doctor and patient." Said Ginta.

"So? We won't be doctor and patient much longer. Your not my regular doctor and I'll be checking out soon anyway. So how about us getting together when I get out?" He looked uncertain. "I can tell your gonna say no." Kagome reached over and grabbed his pen making sure their hands brushed. She tore some paper from the pad beside her bed. "Here's my cell number. If you change you mind let me know. I'm out of here." As soon as Kagome left the room her Mom and Grandpa rushed over.

"Oh Kagome darling are you okay?" asked her mother.

"I'm fine. Can we get out of here please? Hospitals depress me."

"Of course, Kagome. Sign her out please papa." Her mother put her arm around Kagome and steered her out of the hospital. Kagome looked over her shoulder and winked at doctor Kowari who was watching from the doorway of her room.

"I'm going to sleep." Announced Kagome when they got home. Unfortunately she wasn't sleepy so she took a pill to help. Kagome slept as much as she could but at first she had no dreams. Then finally she managed to find herself in the place that was her mind. Approaching the locked door Kagome was surprised to see no debris from her Lizzie Borden craze. She was also surprised that there was no longer a door there. Just a swirling black hole that tried to suck her in, it reminded her of Miroku's wind tunnel or air rip, whatever he called it. Though Kagome tried to hold on to it the dream faded away. The next day Kagome, full of energy from three days of sleep went on a cleaning spree. She was cheerfully at work cleaning under the rug that ran the length of the upstairs hallway when her cell phone rang. She ran in her room and grabbed it. "Hello?"

"I think you've bewitched me." It was doctor Kowari.

"Oh it's you Ginta. How's it going?" she asked.

"Fine except for the fact that I can't get you off my mind. Did you bewitch me?"

"Of course not. I don't have to with my looks."

"So I guess I just have a thing for bossy girls all of a sudden huh?" Kagome laughed.

"I'm not bossy just determined."

"Well I suppose we could go out sometime. Maybe it'll get you out of my head.

"Doubt it. I'm like a poison; the only cure is to see me again. But beware while your being cured your also being poisoned again." Now Ginta laughed. "How's tomorrow? I promised my brother I'd take him out for a smoothie today."

"Tomorrow's fine, around Noon?"

"Sure I'll meet you at the café on O'Rourke Street. Bye."

"Bye"

"I knew he'd call." Said Kagome smugly. "Souta! We'll go get that smoothie as soon as I change clothes."

"Alright." He called back. Kagome was downstairs in the kitchen when Souta came looking for her. "What are you doing?"

"Making a black cherry smoothie."

"Why?"

"It's all part of my plan to get us a free one. By the way you're paying. I'll give you the money before we go inside, I want you to smile, look adorable, and tell whoever serves us that your treating your older sister. Can you do that?"

"Sure." Souta shrugged. She handed him the money and they walked a few blocks down to the ice cream place. They waked up to the counter.

"One vanilla smoothie please." Said Kagome smiling.

"One moment." Said the guy at the counter eyeing Kagome appreciatively. He handed over the smoothie. "That'll be a dollar and ten cents."

"I'm paying." Chimed Souta smiling, "I'm treating my sister."

"Good for you little man." The server took the money and ruffled Souta's hair. They went and sat down.

"Give me that and take this." Kagome took the vanilla smoothie and replaced it with the black cherry one. "Do you want a sip?" she asked cheerfully. Souta nodded and grabbed it. After taking a long sip he looked at Kagome with a look of horror.

"Stop gaping like a fish and give me my smoothie." Kagome reached for the cup.

"You can't drink this Kagome. It's black cherry you're allergic to them." Kagome looked a Souta and her bottom lip trembled then she broke out crying, pulling Souta close. Souta jumped up looking every bit enraged and pulled Kagome up to the counter with him. "Are you trying to kill my sister?" he demanded.

"What?" asked the serving boy.

"My sister asked for a vanilla smoothie and you gave her black cherry. She's allergic to black cherries. If she had taken one sip her throat would have closed up and it's back to the hospital. She just got out yesterday after a seizure and your trying to put her back in." he accused. Kagome cried louder letting her hair fall in front of her face.

"I wouldn't do that. I'm so sorry. Here on the house." He handed Souta another vanilla smoothie.

"It's the least you could do." He snatched the smoothie and dragged Kagome out. When they were away from the shop Kagome wiped her face and pulled out the other smoothie.

"Told you it'd work." She said sipping the partly melted but still cold smoothie. "You owe me a dollar."

"Whatever." Muttered Souta, digging in his pocket for a dollar.

So what do you think? In truth this was just a little fun chappie to take up space. Good news Kagome goes back to the feudal era next chapter and gets a little revenge on Inuyasha for all the heartache he's caused her.
