Chapter 4: Discussions
That day after school, Sango and Ayame were waiting for Kagome in front of the building, like they usually do.
“You know, Ayame, since those two just met again, I think it would be best if we just let them be and let them catch up, if you know what I mean.” Sango smiled mischievously. Ayame just snickered, knowing what she meant.
“Oh yeah, besides, she's after us for the whole `surprise' thing and I don't think I would just confront her and then be sent flying. I'm not that brave just yet.” The two left the school with Miroku catching up a little bit afterwards.
Inuyasha and Kagome walked out the school together, Kagome just staring in front of her, holding a light blush. `I just don't believe what is happening to me. It's like a dream that I'll wake up from and that this never happened. But I'm glad that we are together again.' Inuyasha glanced down to see her in deep thought. Breaking the silence he smiled and said
“I love how you look in the setting of the sun.” Kagome quickly turned around, with a deeper blush now.
“Uh, thanks, that's nice of you to say, but I'm not at all glamorous like most girls here.” She said with a little under confidence. Inuyasha quietly slipped his hand in hers, making them stop.
“Don't say that, Kagome. I think you're beautiful.” With that, he now had a little blush. He never held a girl's hand before but this girl was special. This girl made him realize that he would not be alone in the world. She looked at the two enjoined hands then into his glowing golden eyes. She was totally flustered by this point.
“Thanks.” She managed to mutter out. They continued to walk, in silence both with smiles. Not knowing where He was leading her to, she decided not to say anything. 5 minutes later, they came upon the central park and walked in. It was near darkness and there only a few people left. `Why would he bring me here?' Then it dawned on her. `This is the place where we first met. And that tree is where it all happened.' She looked at the big white flowering dogwood tree straight ahead of them.
“You remember.” Inuyasha looked at her with a sighing nod.
“How could I not. This is where you came to me that day 11 years ago.” They reached the tree and sat beside each other, facing the setting sun.
“I remember like it was yesterday. You looked so lonely and I just can't look at someone playing by themselves. It made me feel sad inside.” Kagome told him leaning against the dogwood with a sigh.
“I knew you were different with those cute ears of yours.” She giggled. “I wasn't afraid. Even though I was only 5 years old, I didn't run. You gave me no sign that you would try to do something to me, only a look of confusion, like why I was talking to you.”
“Yeah, I was pretty confused why a little girl like you would approach a half demon like me. I never talked much, except to my mother, but never from another kid such as you. I kept thinking what my life would be like now if you didn't come up and talked to me.” Inuyasha told her with such eyes that held sorrow. She could tell that he was hurting inside. She scooted next to him and leaned against him, making him blush.
“It's a good thing that I have a lot of curiosity, otherwise I wouldn't have walked over to you.”
“Very true.” He put his arm around her shoulder, comforting her. She was just thinking how her life would be now with Inuyasha in her life. Her happiness suddenly turned to disappointment when she thought of what her father told her. He put his arm down, wondering why she changed, with her facial expression and sudden movements. He could sense the sadness and worry ness in her.
“What's wrong? Are you feeling alright?” She turned to look at him and then back at the nearly setting sun. It was a while before she finally spoke.
“Inuyasha, I have to tell you something that has been bothering me and it's so hard to live with it, especially now you're here.” She took a shaky breath before continuing. Inuyasha looked at her and prepared to listen to her story.
“When I was 13 years old, when I was going into high school, my father called me into the living room, aside from all the chatter that was going on in the dining room. He sat me down and looked like he was going to talk to me about an important issue. I had a feeling what it was about, but I listened any way. “Kagome, remember when I first told about demons?” I nodded and continued to listen. “You wouldn't have understood it then, but I think you're old enough to here what I'm about to tell you. The Demon world is such a dangerous world that I feared all my life. And when I grew up and had kids of my own, I would tell them what happened to me to make me fear all demons. A horde of demons came through this town when I was 10 years old. They murdered everyone in their path. When they approached my house, my mom, dad and little sister went into hiding while they wrecked the house. When they found us, my mom and dad told us to run quicklyto avoid getting hurt. I was scarred but I led your aunt to an underground hole and stayed there, while all the while I heard my parents scream in agony.” I remembered him holding back tears as he continued. I was in shock so I couldn't say anything. “When it was all over, I led me and your aunt out of hiding and searched for my parents. We found them sometime later, and they weren't dead just severely wounded to my relief but we were both still terribly frightened. We were at the hospital the following morning, and we were both sleeping. The doctor came in and told us that they were going to be okay; they just needed rest for a while. We were relieved and happy and jumped up and down, but inside me, for the first time I felt a burning rage and deep hatred for all the lowly, disgusting, filthy beaststhat nearly killed them.” He looked at me with a stern and maddened look, which made me quiver a little. “That's why I tell you and Souta to stay away from demons. They are ruthless and will try to kill you. You can't turn your back on them. I don't want to see you hurt or Souta. I don't want you near those despicable things, not now, or ever!” Kagome ended her story with such force and power in her voice that Inuyasha was thrown back a bit. He was indeed a half demon and because of an incident years ago, the girl he often thought about wasn't even allowed to talk to demons. He looked at her noticing the many tears silently falling from her face.
“That's why I'm afraid about how this going to work out. I want to be with you, but my father won't even glance at you. I -I don't want us to be apart!” Kagome shouted, now crying aloud with so many tears, crying into her hands. He was shocked that she said not wanting to be apart. He suddenly thought of something that might work. He put his hand gently on her shoulder.
“I think I know a way that might convince your father.” Kagome's crying became less intense and suddenly looked to him.
“How? I know my father would reject you at first sight. How do you expect-?” Kagome was silence by his finger on her lips.
“I am half demon but I'm also half human.” He continued, while she was wondering where he was going with this, but saw a glimmer of hope in his eyes.
“This is something that no one knows about except my mother. I've kept this a secret all my life so will you promise that you won't tell another soul?” He grabbed her hand and cupped it with both hands. She then put on a hopeful smile and covered his hand holding hers. She nodded and said
“I promise. I won't tell anyone, I swear.” He saw into her glossy covered eyes that were fresh of tears, seeing and feeling the truth from her hand and told her,
“I have this period of time when I lose my demonic powers it lasts about two days or so, and that time I appear in my human state looking completely different. I was afraid to tell anyone, for fear of my life. Kagome, I also want to be with you, so what I'm trying to say is-“
“If you're in your human state, my father could see you and approve of you hanging out with me?” Kagome looked happy and shocked at the same time.
“Yes, without knowing of my demon state.” He finished when she suddenly hugged him with her arms around his waist, taking him completely by surprise.
“Oh, Inuyasha, I don't know what to say. I'm so happy. You would actually do that for me?” He felt tensed at first but then relaxed as he hugged her back, feeling her tears on his shirt. It was only a short time when he spoke to her again.
“I said I wanted to be with you, so I'll do anything for that purpose.” he now felt content and relaxed again, resting his head on top of hers.
The sun had completely set and was turning into a starry sky. Inuyasha and Kagome got up and were walking to her house. Hand in Hand, with both feelings of sanguine and timorous at the same time. It was a 10 minute walk before they were at the foot of her house.
“I had a great time talking to you and getting that burden off my back and working something out.' Kagome told him, facing him.
“I knew you would feel completely happy once I told you that. But remember, it happens only between the first and second week of each month, so I can't see your family until I'm human which should be in a few weeks.” Inuyasha reminded her.
“I will.” Nodding and reaching up and began rubbing his ears. He looked at he with shock but let it slip since she did when they were kids, feeling completely relaxed. She pulled her hands down and recomposing herself, since she couldn't help herself.
“Sorry, I just wanted to feel them again. They're so soft, just like I remember.” She said, giggling, while staring at him.
“I was wondering why you just suddenly decide to rub my ears; I'm not used to no one but my mom doing that.” He then changed into a completely serious but sweet tone.
“I know this sudden, with us just meeting and all, but I wanted to ask you this ever since that day.” Kagome listened, hoping it was what she thought it was, screaming inside, but remaining completely calm.
“Will you…do me the honor of being my girlfriend?” He jauntily asked, not knowing what she would do. She was breathing heavily now, holding back the scream that was going to shortly coming up. She grabbed him and held on to him and held back some silent tears.
“Yes! Yes I will be your girlfriend, now and forever!” She sniffled into his chest. With that, he grabbed her shoulders, with her hands clinging on to his shirt, looking down at her leaning in with a small kiss. She then closed her eyes melting inside and feeling completely oblivious to her surroundings. She had been waiting for this her whole life. They pulled away, looking at each other with soft, stricken eyes.
“Good night, Kagome. Sleep well, my beautiful rose.” He then let her go and started walking down the street. She waved back at him, whispering
“You too, my long, lost prince.”
When he was out of sight, she ran up the stairs, through the door, saying hello and goodnight to her parents and brother as she whizzed by and running up the stairs and into her room, shutting the door behind her.
“AHHHHHHHH!!” She yelled, finally letting all her emotions out all at once. `This is the best day of my life. Now with him as my boyfriend and getting my first kiss, nothing is going to bring me down.' Her parents heard her, wondering why she screamed at the top of her lungs. `Something exciting must have happened today to make her act like this.' They both thought. Her brother thought she lost her mind as continued what he was doing.
Two days later, Friday, it was Girls Night Out. Sango and Ayame were staying the night at Kagome's. They reached her house, went to straight to her room. Kagome shut the door, when suddenly,
“Okay, what happened on Wednesday? Ever since that day, you have had a smile bright enough to light up Tokyo! You have been hiding something from us and been glued to Inuyasha's side every time you see him. What's the deal?” Sango screamed at her, breathing heavily, excited to know.
“Tell us, or we'll strangle it out of you!” Ayame added as they sat on the floor. Kagome had her eyes shut, with both of them, silently. Looking up with sparkles in her eyes,
“HE KISSED ME!” All of them then squealed at the top of their lungs.
“And he asked me to be his girlfriend and I accepted!” With that, another squeal came from Sango and Ayame.
“All that happened on the first day? I don't believe it.” Sango said with disbelief.
“You barely knew the guy and he asked you to be his girl and a kiss?” Ayame shockingly asked with disbelief and staring wide-eyed.
“You are lucky, Kaggie. My boyfriend didn't ask me for 3 months. It makes me sick with envy.” Ayame said with a bit of sadness and depression in her eyes and her voice.
“While on the subject of boys, what about you, Sango?” Kagome questioned Sango curiously. Sango went into a deep blush, knowing where she was going with this.
“If you're referring to that lecherous, perverted Miroku who is always trying to grope me, no way! He's always around me, complementing me, and when he's close enough he lowers his hand down my back. I manage to knock him out, but he won't quit. He'll never learn!” She told them, crossing her arms and turning her head, not wanting to admit the obvious.
“You are so stubborn, Sango. He likes you, I can tell. And you like him, ever since junior high. Why can't you just admit that you both like each other and get it over with?” Ayame inquired, now with a big grin.
“Yeah, Inuyasha's been telling me that Miroku is planning to ask you out, he just doesn't know when. I can't wait.” Kagome added with a dreamy smile. Sango now had a question of her own.
“Speaking of dates, when are you two going out? I know it will be difficult to get past your father, with knowing about his hatred for demons.”
“Come to think of it, I always wondered about that too. We both know now how you feel for him, but your father is very overprotective when it comes to demons. If you do go out with him, what will your father do?” Ayame asked, now sounding concerned for her friend.
“We had a talk about that also. I talked about the whole `father hates demons' situation and he told me about something that might work out. It's a secret that he can't allow every person to find out. His mom and Miroku are the only ones who know, besides me.” Kagome assured them.
“We just don't want to see you get hurt and depressed. I know how you get when you get sad and hurt.” Sango now scared and very worried for her.
“Don't worry, guys, we'll be able to pull it off, somehow. We can handle that if my dad ever finds out. I never disappointed my father or never did do anything behind his back, but his problem with demons won't stop me from seeing the one I care about.” Kagome said determined with new confidence.” Sango and Ayame looked at each other, trusting Kagome. They would have to be careful though. After that, they went shopping and had some fun at the bowling center. They fell asleep that night with some hope about the whole boyfriend thing.
The next week was whizzing by. Inuyasha and Kagome getting closer, while Sango and Miroku also getting closer, with the everyday poundings from Sango and a once in a while compliment from Miroku. She would just turn away blushing and muttering under her breath. He did ask Sango on a date the following Saturday. `This can't be happening to me! With all that's been happening in the past week, he's finally has the gull to ask me out. What should I do?' She thought, not knowing what to do. As if reading her thoughts, Kagome came up to her with Inuyasha trailing behind her, his arm around her shoulders. “You know Sango, since me and Inuyasha are going out that day, why don't we go on a double date? It's your first date as well as mine, so it would be a comfort to have you with me.” Sango, now feeling confident, replied
“You know that would be a big help. Okay I accept. I warn you though, if you touch me anywhere inappropriate in my father's presence, He will and I quote, HE WILL kick your ass and throw you all the way to the moon.” She warned him with fire burning in her eyes, meaning that was a serious threat.
“Heh, heh, I would never do anything to endanger my health.” Miroku answered her with the usual denial.
“Sure you do. Everyday, when you grope her, she pounds you into the earth, enough to make you completely unconscious.” Inuyasha quickly replied.
“You got that right. I'm surprised you don't have enough common sense to quit. I guess your brain has been on the blink since your first pounding at the mall.” Both Sango and Inuyasha let out a few laughs.
“That hurts, Kagome.” He responded as he feigned pain in chest.
“Anyway, it's set for next Saturday, then?” Sango asked. Kagome nodded.
As the school day came to an end, Kagome and Sango were walking home, but not before Inuyasha gave Kagome a little sweet kiss on the lips. Miroku eyed Sango, wondering would it would be like. Sango just shot him a `back off!' look. He dropped all thoughts, perverted thoughts anyway, instantly. They pulled away, sating goodbye and left for home with them each going separate ways.
“She just makes me feel so lucky, Miroku. I would not know what to do if she was not in my life.” Inuyasha told his best friend. Miroku who was deep in thought, when he looked up to answer his question.
“I keep wondering when I'm going to have my chance with Sango”, sounding envious of his friend.
“Yeah, like she'll allow you to come up to her and kiss her. Ha! That's going to happen. She'll send you flying.” Inuyasha told him with a sarcastic then a serious tone.
“It could happen.” Miroku responded after thoughts of being thrown into oblivion, sounding as hopeful as he can be.
Inuyasha just nodded and continued to talk with his good childhood friend.
Kagome walked into her house, after saying goodbye to Sango. She smiled and greeted everyone and started for the stairs.
“Kagome, can you come down here and tell us why you have been in such a happy mood. You don't even chase Souta around the house anymore.” Her mom asked her, with her father now joining her mother, who also wanted to know. `What should I tell them? “Yes, I have had a boyfriend for over a week and didn't even bother to tell you?” No, definitely not. I can tell the truth but not all of it. Here goes nothing.' She walked downstairs to the kitchen where her parents were waiting.
“Well the truth is, this boy I really like asked me out on a date over a week ago, which is set for next Saturday and I accepted.” She told them. `It wasn't a total lie, but not all the truth. I forgot to mention the “boyfriend” thing on purpose.' She thought, hoping it wouldn't be a total shocker for them. Her mom drew up a big smile.
“That's great, Kagome. A boy finally asked you out. My daughter going on her first date, you're growing up really fast.” The middle-aged, shoulder length hair, short woman told her sounding sad. Her father on the other hand crossed his arms and had that strict yet calm look on his face.
“I'm glad that you have your first date. But before you go out, it's only right that I check him out, to make sure he isn't one of those boys who have only one thing on their minds. I don't want my daughter have her feelings hurt.” She looked at him with a relieved smile.
“Don't worry, Dad. We've known each other for a while and he treats me with respect and is completely sweet to me. He hasn't shown any `seductive' signs. I don't think that he's that kind of guy.” She informed her father with complete truth. Her father changed to a smile.
“I trust you, Kagome. But If I see him doing any wrong moves towards you, I'll kick him out and into the street in a heartbeat. I will allow no boy to hurt you in any way.” She let out a small sigh with a wide-eyed expression. Her mother on the other hand, walked up to her and took her shoulder.
“Your dad is right, sweetie. You are our only daughter and we won't let anything happen to you. Just be careful. Okay?” Kagome nodded and gave her a small kiss on the cheeks. `Thanks, Mom.” She then turned to her dad and gave him a quick kiss too.
“I will be okay, dad. Nothing is going to happen. Sango is also joining me with her date”, who was sounding reassuring. Her father now had a small smile.
“Sango, huh? That's a great idea. You're her best friend and she wouldn't let anything bad happen to you. She really gets going when she's angry enough.” Kagome just let out a small laugh.
“That's Sango all right. Well, goodnight, love you.” She called out as she ran upstairs to go to bed.
