Kagome woke up and found herself on her bed with InuYasha sitting next to her. She remembered what had happened and started to cry. InuYasha sat on her bed and held her.
`My mom can't die,' she thought. InuYasha grabbed a tissue from Kagome's night table. He handed it to her and she blew her nose.

Kagome stood up and walked to her bathroom. She ran the water cold and splashed it onto her face.

She walked to her mother's bedroom. She started to cry again. Her mother looked pale and thin. She looked at her brother.

“It was too late. The cancer already spread and they couldn't do anything. Kagome, she doesn't have long to live,” he said solemnly.

Kagome walked to the other side of the bed and kneeled. Her mother looked at her and said, “Hello Kagome. You changed, didn't you?”

Kagome nodded and told her everything that happened in the Feudal Era and showed her demon side, but she quickly changed back. She wanted her mom to see the human girl that she had raised and loved when she passed on.

InuYasha walked into the room. He felt awful for the Higurashi family. Mostly for Kagome and Souta since they would be alone in the world and only have each other.

“I love you mom,” Kagome cried.

“I love you too my daughter. Do me a favor. When I pass away, please take care of Souta?” asked Ms. Higurashi.

Kagome nodded, “Anything for you mom.”

Kagome walked out of the room with Souta following her. “Can you heal her?” Souta asked. Souta was now eighteen years old and Kagome was now twenty-three.

“It would be better if I didn't. Mom has faced a lot of pain from this cancer, physically and mentally. She deserves to go to another place where she can be happy and healthy. It is her time and fate,” she replied mournfully.

“What! You are going to let our mother die and leave us all alone?” Souta shouted and stormed out of the kitchen.

Back in Ms. Higurashi's room, InuYasha asked, “Ms. Higurashi…may I have your permission to marry your daughter?”

Ms. Higurashi beamed and replied, “I am honored and you have my gratitude.” InuYasha bowed and hugged her. Before he left, the dying woman held him back. He looked at her curiously.

“Please take care of my babies. Love Kagome with all your heart. She needs love to survive,” said Ms. Higurashi. InuYasha nodded and left.

Not long after he left, Kagome's mother died. Those were her last words.

Fifteen minutes later, they found her dead body. Souta and Kagome were crying. InuYasha was replaying her final words in his head. His nod was a promise. It was now his duty to take care of them.

The funeral was a week later. It was very rough on the Higurashi children. After the funeral, Souta stayed at their house and Kagome and InuYasha went back to the Feudal Era.
