Part three: Meeting her

Kae opened her eyes and was a bit disoriented at first then her eyes focused. She moaned as she sat up and looked around. She was in an office of some kind and she could hear music whose sound was dimmed a bit. She shifted her body and was about to get up off the couch she was lying on when she heard a voice.

"Welcome back to the land of the living."

Kae spun around and looked about the office before she saw the man standing in the corner. The lighting in the office was dimmed so she could not see him good.

"Who's there?" she asked and gasped as the man stepped into the dim lighting. It was the man from the store. The man who she had dreamed about. He stood there looking down at her with striking golden eyes that were freaky yet so sexy still. He was really something now that she could see him up close. She watched as he came closer then bent beside her to look at her closely.

"Hello Kagome," he said.

"H-how do you know my name?" she asked as she sat back. She didn't think he would harm her but she didn't know this man and he seemed to know her.

Inuyasha looked at the girl. What did she mean how did he know her name. They were mates. How could he not? He looked into her eyes to see what game she was playing with him. What surprised him was that there was genuine curiosity in her eyes. She did not know him! How was that possible? She was his mate. How could she not know him? Just as he was about to say something to her, he heard a voice in his head telling him to remind her of what they had and who they were.

It was Kagome's voice in his head. She remembered her letter saying that he should remind her but didn't know what that had meant at the time. He had no idea that it should be taken so literally. Inuyasha stood back from her and looked down at her. Then he sighed.

"I knew you a long time ago. Before you--left," he lied to her. God what now? Why did things always have to go wrong for them?

"Before I left? I used to live here?" she asked as she stood up and walked closer to him. "You knew me? You know who I am?"

"Uh yeah," he said as he looked down into her big brown eyes. "Don't you?"

"No," she said softly and sadly. "I don't remember anything before three years ago. The only thing I know is my name."

Inuyasha looked at her. This was his chance. This was his chance with Kagome. If she didn't remember their past, he wouldn't tell her of any of the bad things that happened between them. He would only tell her of the good things and maybe they would be together again.

"Who are you? How is it that you know me and how well do you know me?" she asked him eagerly. "Please tell me something. Anything."

"Uh . . . well Kagome," he began. What should he tell her? The truth? It would be kinda difficult to tell her they were mates since she had no idea what or who he was but he needed her. He needed Kagome in his life and he vowed that if he ever got her back he wouldn't lose her. "We . . . we were friends a very long time ago."

"Friends," she said softly as she looked up at him. She might not have known this man but for some reason being just friends with him seemed ludicrous. She saw the way he was looking at her and thought that she was right. They were something some time ago but she wasn't sure it was just friends.

"Yes friends. Until you disappeared three years ago," he told her. Inuyasha didn't know what to say to her. He'd spent so much time wanting and needing her to come back. He needed her in his life but now that he had her he didn't know what to do. It was like he had to start all over and it was going to be hard doing that. He didn't know who this woman was in front of him. He just knew that she was formally his mate. But death had separated them, now she came back to him a whole new person.

"Were we close?" she asked him.

Inuyasha stared into her brown depths with his golden gaze and held it for what seemed like forever. The air was filled with tension and they couldn't tell if it was sexual or not. Both knew somewhere though, that things were not as they should be. He lifted his head and slowly nodded in the affirmative. They were indeed very close three years ago before her death and resurrection but she had no idea to what extinct that closeness was.

"Oh," she said softly. Not knowing what else to say to this strange man before her, Kae hugged herself and looked around. Again she was greeted to the sight of office furniture and could hear the pounding beat of the music faintly from the ground below. She walked over to the glass, knowing that he was watching her, and just stared down at the people below and how much they seemed to be enjoying themselves.

"What happened to me? How did I get here?" she asked him without turning around.

"You were drugged," he said from somewhere right behind her. She jumped and spun around quickly to realize that Inuyasha was only a few inches away from her. How did he move so fast and so quietly? She looked up into his golden eyes and felt herself drowning.

"Drugged?" she asked when his words finally penetrated her mind.

"Your dance partner," he began. He was so close to her. Close enough to just pull her into his arms and kiss her. It was what he was craving since he spotted her that night. It was what he was craving for the last three years. He wanted her. He needed her and he didn't know if he could control himself with her being just so close to him right now. "He slipped something into your drink."

"He-he?" she couldn't finish the question. Her mind fluttered to all the possibilities of the night if Inuyasha had not saved her. "Who are you? What is your name?"

"Inuyasha," he said softly. She felt rather than heard his words. He was standing just so close to her that his breath ran over her face like a caress. Her stomach fluttered and she could feel herself wanting to lean into this man. She had no idea why her body was reacting this way to this stranger. Her mind didn't know him . . . but her body . . . her body seemed to long for him. She felt like she was being called by him in some way and she knew that inevitably she would respond.

*Flashback*

It was not the first time she'd seen him but it was the first time she'd been held so intimately by him. She had not known it was him and thought it was another. He was such a good dancer. His body moved in tune with her own and he made her feel things she had no idea was even possible to feel.

He held her close as they moved as one with the music. She sighed as she leaned back into his muscular chest and allowed him to lead in their erotic display they would call dancing. She felt so good being in his arms and though she did not know this man she felt safe with him. She shivered under his touch as his hand traced the lining of her body and stifled a moan when he ground himself into her. She felt his hot breath on her neck and began to melt. This man was turning her on so quickly and so powerfully that she didn't know how to stop it or even if she wanted it to stop.

She was lost in the sensation but was brought back to reality, when she felt his caress slide across her stomach and to the juncture of her thighs. It was like spraying her with cold water and she realized then who she was, where they were and what they were doing. She pushed out of his arms and spun to say something but it was caught in her throat as his amber eyes bore into her.

*End flashback*

They were close. Really close. All he had to do was lean in and his lips would be pressed firmly against her own. He glanced down at her luscious pink lips and swallowed. God how he wanted to kiss her. To taste her. To remind her that he was hers and to remind himself that she was his. He looked up into her brown eyes and saw that they were darkening with passion. She wanted this. She wanted to taste his lips as well and if he was to kiss her right now she would accept him no questions asked.

Inuyasha leaned in closer and she could feel his warm breath on her. His lips skimmed over hers, once, twice then it settled in a kiss that was filled with so much emotion that the two felt compelled to deepen it.

As they kissed all kinds of thoughts ran through Kae's mind. She didn't know if they were memories or wishes. She saw the two of them together in a bed. She was nervous but he was calm and sure about everything. She saw him just above her with a look of pure rapture on his face then she saw herself. She was beneath him with her eyes shut tightly and the look of most intense pleasure on her face. She felt an explosion within her body and looked up to see Inuyasha's face portraying what she felt.

She then saw them laughing as they sat with one another. She could see the love in his eyes and was more than sure it was in her eyes as well. Then they were arguing. His eyes blazed with amber fire and she could feel herself not backing down from such a force before her. He wouldn't hurt her and she knew it. She saw them again but this time it was sad. She was crying uncontrollably and he held her. He held her and whispered words into her ears. She couldn't hear what he was saying but she knew that he was trying to comfort her.

As she came down from the kiss, many other faces swarm in her head and she was starting to get confused. Was she remembering them or had she seen them before and stored their faces in her mind? She saw two girls, two guys and a little boy. She then saw other faces that caused her to shiver and one that looked like her but was not her at all. She shut her eyes tight and tried hard to get the images to leave her alone and as she came from her memories, one voice lingered in her head and it was of the man before her right now.

"I love you Kagome."

She opened her eyes and looked at the man staring down at her intensely. She saw something in his eyes she was sure was love. Who was he? They were more than friends that she was certain of. But why did he just say they were friends? She reached out and touched his cheek with her delicate hand. His much larger and rougher one covered hers on his cheek as he looked into her eyes.

"I remember you," she said softly as they stared at each other. Just as he was leaning in to kiss her again, his office door flew open interrupting their private moment. Inuyasha growled menacingly and swore whoever interrupted them would die. He looked up to see one of his own men standing there and frowned.

"What!" he all but barked out and the man looked on with fear.

"There-there is a problem. Downstairs. Demons."

Inuyasha looked up at that one word and back to Kagome. She was looking at him curiously noting the change in his body. He stepped back from her and looked through the glass. Sure enough there were demons in his beloved club looking like they were ready for a fight. He turned back to Kagome and the man and motioned him inside.

"I want you to take her out the back entrance and take her home and wait for me to come" he said to the man who nodded then turned to Kae. "He's going to take you home and you're going to stay there you got it. Don't come back to the club and don't come looking for me. I'll come to you."

"But-," she began but he wouldn't let her finish.

"No buts. This is for your safety." He saw the look in her eyes and knew her fear. "Don't worry Kagome. Now that I've found you, I'm not about to lose you again. I'll come for you. I promise you this. Now go."

She turned to leave with the other man but thought better of it and ran back to Inuyasha to give him one last kiss. When she stepped away from him, he caressed her cheek then pushed her towards the door. She smiled at him then left. "I love you Kagome," he said to the air. "And I'll make you remember you love me too."

(I could end it there but I don't feel like dying today so I'll continue.)

Inuyasha made his way down the stairs all the while sensing where Kagome was at the moment. Now that they had met again and came into contact with each other, he could feel her presence like he was once able to do before. He walked down to his opponents and felt Kagome's aura move farther and farther away. He smiled. Good. He then turned to the men who were foolish enough to come to his club for a fight.

"Hello gentlemen," he said in a business-like tone and a glacier smile. "How may I help you tonight?"

"Can it Makoto," said one brave man who he assumed was the leader. "You know what we came for. We want the jewel."

Inuyasha raised a brow at the man but other than that showed no anger. Only annoyance. "The jewel. And which jewel would that be? The diamonds or the rubies?"

"You son of a bitch you know what jewel I want," he said as he took one brave step forward. "The Shikon no tama."

"Hmm," Inuyasha said as if he was thinking about it. "You know I don't think I want to give that to you."

The human disguised demon sneered. He looked around himself at his followers then back at Inuyasha. "I don't think you have much of a choice."

Inuyasha looked at the other demon's followers. "Yes it would be three against one. Hardly seems fair to you doesn't it?"

The man's face faltered for a brief second then he grinned again. "Such big talks for a man so weak. I heard you were never the same since you're miko bitch died."

Inuyasha's eyes flashed red and he grinned as well. "She has returned to me," he said simply. His movements were so fast and so unexpected that the other demon had no chance to escape. The Tensaiga came from almost nowhere and dissevered the demon's head from his body. He looked over at the other demons as he replaced his sword in its case. He then turned and looked to his men.

"Get rid of them," he said simply then walked away. He had more important things to do tonight. Like visit a very important person that just happened to return to him.

Kae was seated curled up on her couch as she waited for Inuyasha. About a half hour ago, the man who was watching her had received a phone call from him but he had not asked to speak to her. The two of them sat in silence as the waited for Inuyasha to arrive. She had tried to engage the man in conversation but he only gave her one word answers and chose not to talk to her. She wondered what was wrong with this man.

She pushed all thoughts from her head when she heard a knock on the door. She watched the man stand and walk over to it. He looked through the peephole then opened the door. Kae looked around him to see Inuyasha standing there with a big box in his hand and a six pack can in the other. He stepped in and nodded to the other man. The other walked out of the apartment leaving the two alone together. Inuyasha looked over at her and grinned.

"I brought pizza. The beers for me not you. I'm sure you have juice around her somewhere." he grinned at her pout. "Come on. Let's find it."

The man limped into the room and looked around. He saw the way the others were looking at him and knew he was in for it. He knew he messed up badly and there was no way to stop what would happen to him. If he made it out alive that alone would be a miracle. He stopped in front of the large man who had a grin on his face.

"Heard you couldn't do it," he said in a taunting manner. He gulped. He knew he should not have bragged about his abilities but he was sure he could take Inuyasha. The man was so weak lately that it seemed anyone could take him down. He didn't cause any trouble and it seemed that he really was trying to go straight.

Everyone had heard of his defeat of Naraku and the death of his mate. They had thought that his gang would disperse because their task was over and the thing that held them all together had gone away but that was wrong. They were all like family and stuck by each other. He hadn't thought that it would have been so hard to take the man down considering his men was outnumbered but he didn't keep in mind that they were out skilled.

"He's waiting for you," the man before him said and smirked. He took a deep breath and nodded. He made his way towards the room where their leader stayed. He saw the man standing in front of a painting staring up at it.

"You've disappointed me," the man said to him without turning around. "I sent you to do a simple job. A job you said you could do, but you didn't do it. You failed. How hard is it to kill a man! It's not hard at all. Would you like me to show you?"

The man spun around and he saw his red eyes blazing with fire. He'd always thought this man was so unnatural and the color of his eyes helped prove his point. Oh he looked normal enough with a lean yet muscular male body with long black hair always in a braid but his crimson eyes scared the hell out of him.

"I-I-I..." he began to stutter. He was scared as hell and didn't know how he could talk his way out of this. He didn't know if there was even a way for him to talk his way out of it. He looked around the room looking for someway to escape though he knew it wasn't possible.

"Well..." the man said in a taunting manor as he walked over to the other wall where an array of weapons hung. He took down one that had a long handle and a sharp curved blade at the end. He swallowed as he watched the man walk towards him.

"H-h-he wasn't afraid. He was prepared."

"How is that possible? He doesn't fight anymore. He doesn't have the heart to fight anymore since his miko died."

His eyes lightened up. That's the way he would get out of this! He had an opportunity to live. "Wait. If you promise not to kill me I can tell you something you might like to hear."

The crimson eyed man scowled. "I make the deals here not you. Tell me what you know and I'll decide if it's good enough to keep your life."

"O-okay. The miko. She's not dead. She's alive. He told it to Yuki before he killed him." he watched as the man pondered over what he was just told and saw the smile on his face. He did good! He was going to live! Oh thank God. He was about to thank the man for sparing his life when he felt the blade from the weapon slice through his neck. His head was separated from his body in a few short seconds.

"Good job," the man with crimson eyes said. He then called in a few of his men to clean up the mess. He threw the weapon aside and walked out of the room. He saw just who he was looking for just as he stepped into the other room and grinned. "I think we're going to have a lot of fun over the next few days."

Sango tied up her hair in a messy bun and made sure her clothes were in tact. She made her way out of the room and down to the gym with her boomerang on her back. She walked to the center of the room and took a deep calming breath. She then positioned her body in a fighting stance and got herself ready to battle an invisible opponent. She worked herself hard trying to erase all bad thoughts from her mind but it was hard to do. They just wouldn't go away and leave her alone.

As she sat against a wall taking a break, she heard someone walk into the room. She lifted her head slightly to look at Miroku in his training clothes with a staff in his hand. He looked over at her taking in her beautiful face but sad and disturbed eyes. He didn't say a word but he nodded towards the middle of the room. He stood there and waited for Sango to get into position. When she did, he immediately attacked.

They spared hard against each other. Neither spoke but put all their feelings and words into the fighting and at the end, they were both panting from exertion. Sango slumped to the floor and stared up at Miroku and he did almost the same thing. They looked into each other's eyes but still said nothing. Sango saw the love in his eyes but saw that it was quickly replaced with his anger. She turned away from him and was about to leave but she felt some clasped around her arm and she knew immediately it was Miroku.

She turned to look up at him and saw raw emotion in his eyes. "Sango. We have to talk about this."

"There's nothing to talk about Miroku," she said angrily as she pulled her arm away from him. She wanted to get out of there but she should have known that he wasn't going to give up that easy. He was just as stubborn as her brothers....as her.

"Yes there is," he all but growled at her. Sango tried to take a step back from him but he held her tight. He wasn't a demon in any way but at that moment she wasn't so sure.

"Miroku please. Leave me alone."

"No. I think we've been apart long enough. We need to talk Sango."

"Hey You left Me!" she yelled at him.

"You pushed me away!" he roared right back in her face. He regretted it the minute he saw the tears in her eyes. He knew Sango though. She wouldn't let them fall. She'd try to act strong and that was part of the reason they weren't together right now.

"And you let me. So why don't you let me do it again," she said then pushed against him as hard as she could. Miroku didn't even try to balance himself. He allowed himself to be shoved and fell flat on his ass. He watched in silence as the woman he loved walked out of the door and away from him....again.

(Well that's it for this chapter. Don't worry it won't take me very long to bring out the next one I promise and I beg forgiveness for taking so long to update. I've been having a little family problem but it seemed to be resolved for the time. Anyway I beg you to read and review and tell me what you think. And if anyone wants any ideas to be in this story let me know. And I'll give the first person who can guess what's wrong with Miroku and Sango a cookie. Ok no I won't but I'd like to see if anyone can guess. Ok bye bye now. Jinxx)
