Chapter Three: Hell Hath No Fury
~~
The snow blew violently, whipping long black strands into her face. Dark ash colored eyes stared angrily into the distance as her white silk kimono billowed and whipped around her. A long white bow hung over her shoulder, white shafts and owl feathers jutted from the leather quiver attached to her back. At her side, a ninja crouched, long brown hair pulled into a tight braid whipped out behind her. Everything on the ninja was white, except for her hair and vibrant brown eyes. “Are you sure, Kagome-sama?” Young Rin asked from her squatted position beside the priestess. Kagome had came to a dead stop only a few seconds ago, her gaze transfixed before her. Kagome nodded once before shifted her bow from her shoulder to her hand, drawing smoothly an arrow and knocking it. Rin turned her dark brown eyes forward and felt her muscles tense slowly as the familiar tingle of demonic energy touched her senses. She wasn’t as powerful as her pack-mate, but Rin knew this youki. “Naraku-teme.” “So you do remember me, how admirable.” Kagome’s eyes hardened with banked anger, the ash turning almost blue. Rin rose and twisted gracefully, putting her back to Kagome’s and scanning the area. The demonic youki was tangled with the air now, and with the blizzard, it was hard to tell where exactly the source was located.
Kagome continued to stared ahead of her, her eyes fixed on his aura. Her eyes saw not the reality of the material world, but the astral layouts of the worlds natural energy. Naraku stuck out like a sore thumb against the natural energies of the world, there wasn’t a spell on this planet that could hide his aura from her. Not when she was actively looking for him. “You attacked me wrongfully, without provocation. Your actions will be called into question, Naraku-teme. Can you testify to your innocence, or will the Gatekeepers render your soul to shreds?” Naraku’s laughter rang out around them, sending chills down Rin’s spine. Where was Sesshomaru and Kai? They didn’t lag that far behind, did they? Or did they run into interference? “Rin.” Apparently, Kagome was thinking just that. “Go to Sesshomaru-sama.” No way was she about to protest, Rin merely slipped a blessed kunai into the back of Kagome’s sash, before dashing into the blizzard, effectively concealing both her scent, aura and life-beat from demonic senses. “Such colorful words, little miko. You have spent too much time in the presence of the Dog Prince.” Kagome lifted her bow without a second hesitation and let the sacred attack commence to shredding the youkia to bits. When her soul saw the rendering of his youki, she almost relaxed.
His hand snaked around her throat, his other reaching around and snapping her bow in a fluid motion. The backlash of the string caught her in the temple and right shoulder. She cried out and jerked back against the demon holding her. The hand that broke the bow punched the priestess in the stomach, hard enough for her vision to swim and delay the pain. Naraku laughed as she slumped against him. “Foolish woman. You are no match for me. But seeing as how you so bravely sought after me, I find I must indulge in your wish. Your death will be swift, for you are brave and face your death with honor.” Kagome hissed as the pain slowly brought her back to the waking world. She pushed past it and grabbed her right hand, forcing her right elbow back into the demons chest as hard as she could. She put everything behind it, she threw her hips into the motion, shoved her entire weight back with it. Naraku, in his surprise at the sudden attack from the dormant priestess, was stunned into releasing her. Kagome spun around with an energy charged backhand and caught him in the face. He grunted as the meat of his right cheek was purified, leaving blood and tissue hanging over his exposed jaw. Turning hateful eyes onto the miko now taking the stance of the Tiger, Naraku’s flesh quickly healed as he pushed an open palm towards the woman. “Die.” A torrent of miasma surged forward, at pointblank, and slammed into the unsuspecting priestess. She screamed as the poison began to eat at her flesh, sizzling the beautiful kimono into a burning liquid that melted into her flesh. Throwing up a barrier, the miasma was purified as it continued to surge forward. “Oh, now this is fun. Who will die first? How much can you take, little miko, before you fall to exhaustion and pain. I have first blood, and already you stand on shaking legs.” Kagome cried out in pain and anger as she widened her stance, pushing out more of her souls power. Naraku frowned as her barrier began to expand, forcing not only his miasma back, but coming dangerously close to pushing him back as well. “Damn.” Kagome cried out again, pushing for all she was worth. Naraku’s temper flared and with it, his miasma. It enveloped Kagome and her barrier, effectively encaging the miko and stunting her progression.
Naraku walked into the clouds and snapped both arms out in front of him, as he did so they grew into tentacles that not only pierced Kagome’s barriers but managed to graze her left shoulder and right hip. She stumbled back, her barrier and concentration broken. The miasma surged in around her, enveloping her in an embrace from the devil himself. Suddenly her eyes snapped open, glowing pink like beacons of light. She spread her arms and the miasma was purified, just like that. Naraku had enough preservation instincts to know that his window of escape was only within a fraction of a second. He made it with only a mild torso injury. He hissed, glaring at the mortal woman through his bangs as a bead of sweat slid down his temple, freezing against his skin as the blizzard around them picked up, tugging painfully at his hair. Kagome lifted her hand, and with the lazy, drunk-like motion, the snowy terrain erupted from the ground up, shooting plates of frozen rock in his direction, with a haze of holy energy that rode on the frozen winds. Naraku saw his death and his eyes widened. But fate would be on his side as the girl expelled the last of her souls energy, and the attack died upon his doorstep. He blinked, and began to breath again as his eyes found the unconscious mortal, face down in the snow, already being covered by the winds breath. His eyes narrowed as he took a deep breath and released it.
~~
Rin landed on the scene, a soft pop of jutsu, and upon rising did the realization of the battle sink in. “Kagome!” She screamed into the winds, the upturned earth already covered in a thick blanket of snow, leaving the impression of a Giant’s fir of rage, instead of a battle between a demon and miko. “Kagome!” Sesshomaru and Kai landed beside Rin a second later, noses in the air and ears straining. “I hear her heartbeat, this way.” Kai lunged across the upturned terrain, Sesshomaru and Rin at his heels. Once the demon lord was able to pinpoint what the neko youkia was hearing, he lunged ahead of the group and landed beside the human shaped mound of snow. He dove his hand into the snow and pulled forth a mortal on deaths doorstep. Kai and Rin landed behind the demon lord a second later. “Sess-.” “Rin, go and fetch Ah-Un. Kai, track down Naraku to the best of your ability and report back to me the moment you find anything.” The two left without hesitation of question, leaving the demon lord and the mortal woman alone.
~~
Sesshomaru sat alone in his study, the harsh sounds of winter beating against the shoji doors of his room. It was not long before the tranquil silence of the study was broken, as the shoji door was pulled open, revealing a snow burdened youkia. Sesshomaru’s golden eyes lifted. “Father.” Inutaishou shook the snow from his mane before stalking forward, his advisor the flea demon, Myoga, chattering away on his shoulder. “Good news, my son. “The demons from the Continent are retreating. The Demon War has been won.” Rising to his feet, Sesshomaru greeted his father with a bow, and then a hug. It was normal for pack members, who’ve been gone for a while, to reacquaint with an exchanging of scents. Inutaishou pulled away from his son and frowned at him. “I hear the House of Moon has new Wards?” “Hai, Father. This Sesshomaru has taken under his wing two mortal’s. They’re loyalty and strength often inspire me.” Inutaishou nodded as he moved to remove his armor and find a comfortable place to relax after his long hard battle and journey. Sesshomaru watched him, knowing that he would be asked more questions. “I see. Yet one is a Priestess of the Shikon no Tama and the other, a mere child who could best some of the demons in my army. Tell me, where is Kai?” Sesshomaru closed his eyes. “He is being sent for.” Inutaishou nodded as he sat down behind his desk and pulled out a bottle of sake.
Not a moment later, Kai stood in the room. Kai was Inutaishou’s General, the most powerful demon of his flock. Yet now, he seemed, to be the trainer of mortals! To say the least, the Inu no Taishou was beyond irate. After the two were properly punished, the true Lord of the West retired to his chamber’s, leaving behind his bloody, half conscious son and general. “Well, I’d say we deserved that…” Kai grunted as he pushed himself up off the ground, spitting out a mouthful of blood as he winced and rolled onto his back in defeat. Sesshomaru remained on his stomach, his eyes hallow as his blood pooled around him. Kai glanced at Sesshomaru and sighed. “You do realize that was entirely justified?” Sesshomaru’s eyes suddenly moved, snapping onto Kai’s with primal anger and irritation. Kai sighed and closed his eyes.
Inutaishou entered his room and paused. Lifting his nose, he sniffed carefully, then moved to a hidden door and opened it, revealing a secret hallway that lead to the Chamber of his late wife. Upon entering the room he was surprised, first, by the beautiful smell, second, by the amount of blood. His eyes easily sought and claimed the body on the bed, wrapped almost head to foot in bandages. He crept up to the bed and peered at the slumber mortal who seemed quite literally on death’s doorstep. Kneeling, the Lord of the West placed his hand upon the unscarred brow of the mortal woman, sinking into the depths of her mind and soul easily.
He saw through her life, bypassing the strange events for the latest, which caused her such injury and mental anguish. He saw the arrival of the girl, he saw the brutal abuse at the whim of a stranger, and saw his son, tending after the fallen girl like she were a wounded, blind pup. He saw her growth, the return of her memory, and finally, the interaction with the half-breed who called himself Naraku. He saw the battle, the bravery and honor of the mortal girl, the devotion and determination. He saw her stand willing against her death, without a shiver of fear or doubt. He saw her face down the devil. He also saw her moment of glory, and her abrupt fall from grace. The hanyou had lived, only because the woman was mortal. The beast walks because the beauty was not strong enough.
He pulled out of the girls mind, careful not to open doors where he wasn’t allowed, and opened his eyes as he removed his hand. “No wonder.” He said softly as he brushed aside the girl’s bangs, which were trapped awkwardly against her face, due to the amount of bindings on the girl. The Lord of the West found himself still beside the mortal girl when her eyes began to flutter and morning light began to creep across the floor from the cracks in the windows. Her eyes were a rarity, and Inutaishou found himself obsessed with them. “Good morning, Mortal Woman. I am the Taiyoukia of the Western Lands, my name is Inutaishou, which is also my title.” Kagome smiled softly. “Hi.” Inutaishou chuckled once, as true mirth bubbled in his chest. “You are a strange creature. Your loyalty and bravery exceed you race and sex. I see now why my son has brought you here, to the House of Moon.” Kagome blinked slowly. Inutaishou smiled and placed a hand over her eyes. “You must sleep, young priestess. You must regain your health, for there is much you and I must speak about.” Kagome reached up and grasped his wrist lightly, tugging it from her face. Inutaishou blinked in confusion and amusement. “I’m sorry… I’m not sure if you know or not, but… Its kind of weird, waking up to a man hovering over me so… forgive me if I’m a little slow… You say you are the Taiyoukia of the West? Then who is Sesshomaru?” Inutaishou smiled, decided not to mention that the miko still held his wrist, on the pillow beside her head, her cheek pressed softly against the length of his thumb. “My son.” Her eyes widened and Inutaishou lifted his hand once more, using more force this time, and gently placed his hand over her eyes, demanding her mind to loose consciousness. Satisfied when her body obediently went lax, he removed his hand and stared down at her. Rising to his feet, ht was not surprised when Kai entered the room a moment later.
Although Kai had frozen, upon seeing the powerful demon lord looming over the bed of the injured miko, to his credit, Kai didn’t squeal like a bitch a run away. Turning intense eyes towards the tiger, Inutaishou took pleasure in the way the tiger squirmed. “A-ah, Inutaishou-sama… I… I see you’ve met Kagome-sama.” “Hai.” His tone deep, the dog demon turned to face the tiger. “Do you come here often, Kai? You seemed… excited to be coming here, before you knew of my presence.” Kai lowered his eyes. “Kagome is pack, a valuable asset to our family…. She is quite special and I care about her a great deal, but not in the way you suggest, milord.” With a bow, Kai swallowed and closed his eyes, feeling his heart race. He was not looking forward to another beating from the demon lord. Although Sesshomaru was much stronger, Kai was much older and had been dealing with abnormally, god-like powerful youkia lord for a longer period of time. Kai received the worst of the wounds, but Sesshomaru was still licking his. “I see. Well then, carry on.” Walking past the frozen neko, Inutaishou snickered in dark amusement as every hair on Kai’s body froze with his passing. Closing the door behind him, he couldn’t stop the smirk that showed off a gleaming fang.
~~
“Damnit Kagome!” Kai laughed as he danced to the side, narrowly missing the metal claws the miko took a preference to. Kagome grinned evilly as she chased after the neko. “When were you planning telling me, Kai? Huh? When he showed up at my bed side and scared the holy HELL out of me! No wait!!! I had to find out on my own!” Kai was roaring with laughter now, his eyes watering with the intensity of his amusement as he sloppily managed to twist out of Kagome’s deadly swipes. “You… You really shouldn’t be up!” Kai managed to sputter between his laughter as the miko glowed red in fury. Her energy was burning around her almost tangibly and though he knew he was laughing in the face of his death, he couldn’t help it! The look on her face when she woke up and saw him cleaning her wounds. “I’ll kill you! You damn cat!” “Oi! Tiger!” Kai sobered somewhat when he corrected her, and leapt into the air and hung from a rafter lazily. Kagome scowled up at him. “OOooooOOH! Damn cowardly cat! Get down here!” Kai laughed and suspended himself from his knees and stuck his tongue out at her. “C’mon Kagome! It wasn’t important!” “Not important! You just invited me into the House of Taiyoukia who doesn’t even know me! How is that not important! I’ve been living here for almost a year now! Hello!” “Hi!” Kai returned with gleefully, waving at her to add to the effect. Kagome fumed as she stomped her foot. She was still a mummy with all her bandages, but she had regained enough mobility and aggression to chase after Kai and corner him in the dojo. “You’re a damn coward, s’what you are.” She huffed as she crossed her arms. Kai pouted at her. “Aww, c’mon Kagome! It was all fun and games!” “Yeah until someone gets hurt!” Kai shrugged. “Who’s hurt?” “My poor heart when I woke up to see a big, looming dog over my bed! Hello! Who does that anyway…” She asked herself, then shrugging and pinching her sinuses. Kai dropped from the rafters, but had enough preservation instincts to keep at arms length, and smiled. “Who does what?” “Talking to myself and ignoring YOU!” She sang bitterly as she smiled dangerously, still with her back to him, and walking away. Kai chuckled as he followed her, kicking up his legs like a child in mock-march and hummed. She rounded on him then. “OOh! You’re so ANNOYING!” She laughed as she lunged at him. Kai was so surprised, that she managed to tackle the tiger and pin him to the floor. But he regained his senses and flipped her over. She locked her legs around his waist and jerked her hips, flipping them over yet again. Kai grunted as she dug her knee into his kidney. “Damnit…” He grunted softly and Kagome grinned in victory. “Admit it, Kai. I’m better than you.” “Is that right?” he growled, lunging upward and throwing her off while landing on top of her again and pinning her arms to her sides and her legs to the floor. He chuckled as he loomed over her. “Submit, bitch, you’ve lost.” Kagome snorted. “As if!” She jerked her head up, catching the demon in the nose. As he reared back with a cry of pain, she scrambled out from under him, hissing as she pulled a few healing wounds and made for her metal claws. Kai leapt in front of her before she could reach them and kicked them aside. He wagged a finger at her and tsked. She snarled and pushed herself to her glared at him. He rolled his eyes suddenly and reached for her. “C’mon, you shouldn’t even be out of bed yet. Sesshomaru would cut off my head if he knew.” Kagome smiled and nodded. “Fine. But when I get better…” he chuckled and reached for her arm. “Yes, yes, of course.”

Rin sighed as she absently kicked her leg, chewing on a rice cake as she reclined lazily in a tree branch, just outside the swampland territory of the palace. She was gatekeeper this week. A part of her training, or so Kai told her. She scoffed as she bit a chunk of rice off angrily. She chewed as she glared around with hooded eyes, through in a sour mood. Nothing ever happened at the Gates. Everyone knew that! She kicked her leg harder, her heel bouncing off the underside of the branch. She finished off her rice cake and rose to her haunches. She dropped from the tree and sighed, pulling her mask up over her mouth and nose before turning. She nearly leapt out of her skin when she saw a wolf demon standing before her with his arms crossed. “Not very observant, are you?” Rin cursed herself, but her face didn’t reflect any of her inner anger, instead she turned on the snowy path and lead the demon to the Gate. “What purpose do the have with the House of Moon?” Just as she was ordered to ask, if anyone approached. “My name is Koga, I’m the Prince of the East and have come to speak with the Prince of the West.” Rin smirked. “Inu no Taishou is the Taiyoukia of the West, would you prefer to speak with him?” She glanced behind her to see the demon stop dead in his tracks. “Truly?” “Hai.” The demon smirked suddenly. “That’s Great! Inform Master Inutaishou that the East request an audience and that he should send his reply immediately!” with that the demon turned tail and vanished in a whirlwind of snow. Rin blinked, then shrugged and marched up to the Gate. A snake demon lived at the Gate, and through the walls was able to convey messages faster and more efficiently . “Oriichi. The East wishes an audience.” A sleep black reptile slithered out of a whole, previously hidden by a net of vine. “Ahhh, young Rrrrrrin. How niccccccce to sssssee you, again. I will inforrrrrm the masssster.” She slithered back into her whole and Rin blinked owlishly. She glanced left then right, and smiled before turning and going back to her post.
Landing on the branch and stifled a yawn as she reclined and folded her arms behind her head. Crossing her left knee over her upraised right, Rin surveyed the scenery visually as her sense as a priestess and training under a youkia scanned what her eyes could not see. “Rin.” She looked down sharply, started to see a grinning Kagome, a stoic Sesshomaru and an amused but displeased Kai. She blushed as she slowly uncrossed her legs and pulled her arms down to slouch forward. “Ne, Sesshomaru-sama. Where are you going?” The demon prince turned his eyes from her and began down the path. “We shall go the East.” Blinking, Rin looked at the Gate to see a grinning black snake, who lifted the tip of her tail and waved it at her in a wave.
Kai laughed as he clapped a hand on Rin’s unsuspecting shoulder. “Oriichi relayed a message that Lord Inutaishou already knew. He sent us out before Oriichi even made it to the palace.” The young ninja watched as the snake slithered back into her whole, before looking at Kagome, who giggled and winked as she marched past. “C’mon Rin, this is your big chance for some real experience. You should be excited.” Rin watched the miko pass, then gulped. “Hai. Thrilled.” Kai chuckled and turned the girl around using the hand on her shoulder, and pushed her along gently. Rin pouted at him as she crossed her arms, but the tiger merely chuckled and gave her a friendly shove. “Pick it up, cub. You’re lagging.” “Oi! You’re behind me!” Rin stuck her tongue out at him before darting forward, past Kagome and coming up on Sesshomaru when she heard the patting-pat of the tigers approaching footsteps. This is what she needed, a morning work-out. After all, she’d spent the last day and a half stuck in Gatekeeping duty. Why not shake it up a bit. She slid around Sesshomaru without touching his person and spin, grinning up at him as he stopped and she completed her twist. Kai stopped behind the prince to see Rin twirl around him, ending up the other side. He took a playful swipe at her, a growling/purr escaping his throat as she laughed and ducked, using the drop to propel herself at an angle and rolling. He followed her only to grin.
Rin stood from her roll and twisted around to keep the neko in her sight, when a soft hand touched her shoulder. She was frozen instantly; Kagome walked around the girl, keeping her touch, with a smile. “You aren’t keeping your senses open and receptive, Rin. You’re only out looking for danger, not listening for its approach.” She removed her hand and Rin gasped, realizing that she had stopped breathing. She placed a hand to her heart when suddenly it was beating allot harder than a few seconds ago. “When you are ready, I’ll teach you how to do that? Because you have a soul, and because you have an aura; and actively use it, I am able to mimic the…” She looked skyward as she fought for the words to describe her newfound power. “I want to say… sound? Sesshomaru, would you say that aura has a sound.” The prince narrowed his eyes at the woman, but she looked back to the sky and lifted a hand to chin. “Yeah… Sesshomaru’s soul sounds like a raging fire, while Kai’s more like a harsh rain…” She shook her head and looked down at Rin. “You, young Rin, is like a gentle breeze, a little more difficult to mimic, but once I’m able to, I can make you do anything.” “Anything, Kagome-sama?” Rin asked in awe, her eyes wide and her mouth open. Kagome giggled and nodded. “Yup, watch.” She placed a fingertips on Rin’s forehead, and instantly the young ninja felt a washing sensation sweeping through her entire body before her right arm lifted of its own accord and touched Kagome’s wrist with the tip of her forefinger. Sugoi…Rin gasped when her throat wouldn’t work, but her body didn’t respond. Kagome giggled. “You can’t talk or react, Rin. I’m controlling every part of you, from your heartbeat, to your muscle control. The only thing I won’t invade on you, is your mind. It could be very dangerous.” Kagome removed her fingertip and Rin’s hand dropped like dead weight. Gasping, the girl snatched the arm, which felt cold and unused, and looked up at the smiling miko. “You can teach me this?” Kagome shrugged. “Sesshomaru doesn’t seem to think so. He say’s its probably just a unique-.” “Kagome. Rin does not need any more training, she needs experience. “ Kagome pouted at the demon prince before sighing and nodded. “Yeah, alright. You’re right, as usual.” His eyes narrowed but the miko simply smiled at him as she walked over to him. “Well, c’mon Big Dog, lets march.” His eyes didn’t waver from the priestess as she swaggered over to him, but the moment her mouth opened did all envisions of desire and appreciation leave.
He looked away from her, decided not to dignify her with a response, and snarled soundlessly. Kai, who heard the moving of his prince’s vocals, felt a chill wash over him. He glanced at the priestess in concern, who was chatting away merrily and obliviously beside the demon prince. Rin tagged along behind Kagome, not saying anything, with Kai taking up the rear. In their small pack, he played two roles. The baby-sitter and the beta.
He contemplated Kagome’s role and had ended up deciding she was Alpha Female. Ever since she grew into her powers and grasped her destiny, she became a woman. A woman such as her status and title called for; she was Alpha Female, especially when Inutaishou was concerned. It became apparent she was trying to impress the Demon Lord, but to what gain and purpose? It was nothing sinister or of ill intent, because it wasn’t in the girls nature, and Kai watched her like a hawk. Only Sesshomaru knew of his latest obsession with the mortal woman, but Kai knew it was nothing sexual or anything of that nature. He was a neko after all, and every neko loved a good game. This girl was a game, a puzzle to be solved. He watched Sesshomaru’s back, aware that the prince was taking far more crap from this girl that he’d like to take credit for. But for what little flaws the young priestess did have, she made up for in her ingénues fighting style. The girl was in all retrospect; a pure genus. A chatter-box and amused by some of the oddest things at times, Kagome was the embodiment of the jewel she was sworn to protect by birthright. She was extremely courageous when she was needed by those who needed her; knowledgeable beyond her years and race; she her trust in her friends and those she loves, is beyond the imagination of those who live in this era.
Kai suddenly came to a dead stop, his eyes lifting onto Sesshomaru and Kagome’s backs. “Sakimitama…” Kagome had love… But she didn’t love anyone. Kai snarled and slapped himself in the forehead. Baka-da! You don’t know that! All you can assume at this point is that you don’t think she loves anyone, there for it throws the balance out of order! He lowered his hand and glared at the ground before him. “Kai-kun! What are you doing?” He looked up to see Kagome, Sesshomaru and Rin a ways down the path. He blinked, then sprinted forward. “Oh, uh, don’t mind me!” He chuckled as he caught up. Sesshomaru glared at the neko, before turning and continuing on. Kagome sighed and followed, continuing her conversation where she’d left it off. “I’m telling you, Sesshomaru-kun, if you just let me at least wrap them.” Sesshomaru glared at the infuriating woman beside him. “Silence. This Sesshomaru does not require your healing.” Kagome glared right back at him. “I wasn’t offering to heal you! I was offering to clean and wrap the wounds.” She finished haughtily, crossing her arms. “You just described a method of healing, woman. Now silence yourself.” He marched gracefully ahead of her, leaving the miko staring after him with her mouth open.
“Oh! That’s so not true! Cleaning and wrapping a wound is a step to healing, not healing in itself!” Sesshomaru threw a furious glare over his shoulder. “Woman!” Kagome sighed and shook her head. “I mean it, Sesshomaru, its in my nature. Just because you won’t allow yourself to be touched, doesn’t mean that I can sit by and know your injured without me doing a single thing about it.” She shrugged and shot a hooded, dead glare off into the forest before pinning him with it. “So get over yourself and let me help you. You said we were Pack so…” She trotted over to him and Sesshomaru stared down at her in banked anger and curiosity. “That means you have to!” Sesshomaru almost turned away, then glared at her sharply, coming to a complete stop. But as the prince fumbled the ball, Kagome scored a touchdown. In an instant, Sesshomaru frozen in place by a single touch to the underside of this chin. The frozen feeling only last a split second before she stepped closer and smiled. “Relax, Sesshomaru-sama, and let me take care of you. After all, its what I do.” Though Sesshomaru’s motor skills were instantly returned to him, he had no desire to move despite his audience. Kagome placed her right hand over his abdomen, her fingers pointed towards his groin. She shoved up gently and her aura, which came as a smell to him; smelled of sakura blossoms and rainwater, suddenly disappeared.
Rin’s eyes widened; this time she had ready as the miko used her unique skill to mimic the prince’s aura. Kagome’s aura, which was a light to her, glowed a beautiful pink; now it was Sesshomaru’s lurid green.
Sesshomaru’s eyes widened, but before he really had time to react, the priestess pulled her soul away from his and the scent of sakura and rain bombarded his senses. For a moment, he felt lightheaded, dizzy and drunk; when his head cleared, he found a warm palm on his cheek and her hand relocating to his chest from his stomach. “Can you hear me?” “Hai.” He responded to the voice, feeling the command in its tone. Was it his mother? His eyes opened and he found dark ash colored eyes, midnight blue hair. “Kagome.” She smiled and removed her hand, stepping back. “See, feel better?” She asked, placing her hands on her hips. Sesshomaru frowned and flexed his entire body in a subtle, yet very dog-like tremble. Not a single thing hurt. His stomach and chest, where his father’s claws did the most damage, was completely injury free. He looked up at Kagome, who winked at him. “Not bad, huh? Since I mimicked your Whip of Light, I learned I can allot more with a soul. Especially yours, for some reason its not hard to mimic yours; says against Kai-kun’s and Rin-chan. They’re difficult.” Kai stepped up next to them with a grin. How could I have missed it! Of course she has her Sakimitama! He’s standing right there! “Perhaps it is because he was the first soul you mimicked?” He offered slyly, bumping his shoulder into hers gently. Kagome blinked, then nodded. “I thought that too! But I don’t think that’s it. I can’t explain it, but I know its not because he was my first.” She glanced off to the side, then huffed and smiled at both Kai and Sesshomaru. “Well anyway, shouldn’t we be moving?” Sesshomaru turned and began to walk. Kagome smiled and winked at Kai before catching up the prince and starting another conversation. Kai grinned like a Cheshire cat, she knows exactly like what she’s doing… oh wow, I bet if she were a demon she’d be a cat… or a kitsune! Shaking his head in amusement, he glanced back at Rin, who was smiling as well. He held a finer to his lips and she winked. Smart kid, looks like the only one oblivious is Sesshomaru! He blinked as Rin jogged past him. Sesshomaru’s the last to know… Ha! I’m never gonna let him live this one down!
