Kagome stared unblinkingly at the luminescent clock glowing from her desk. She watched as the digital numbers changed wishing they speed up so dawn would come faster. She was not a morning person by any stretch of the imagination, but dawn meant she would get out of bed away from her nightmares, no questions asked.

Kagome learned in the few months that she and her family had been at the shrine that being up in the middle of the night raised a lot of questions. The first few times she was able to pass off being up late on going to the bathroom or needing a glass of water. After the fifth or sixth time she learned it was better to stay in bed, at least until the sun was up. Kagome also learned that sunrise never came fast enough.

As the rays of the morning sun peeked over the edge of the window Kagome took the opportunity to escape from the confines of her bed. So she wouldn't wake anybody Kagome tip toed downstairs into the kitchen. The sight of her mother making breakfast caught her off guard.

“Mom what are you doing up so early?”

Rumi turned to see her daughter standing in the doorway. She smiled before turning back the omelets in the pan.
“I was about to ask you the same thing but I already know the answer.”

Kagome threw a quick glare at the back of her mother's head before sighing and sitting at the table.
“Well then I can assume that your reason for being up is the same as mine?”

“If your reason for being up so early is to cook a nice breakfast before you and Sota have to go to school, then yes you can assume that.”

“School?!”

“Yes Kagome. The place where children go to learn.”

“Why can't we be home schooled like we were last year?”

“Because circumstances have changed and I need you and Sota to go to public school.”

“Public school, but mom…”

“Kagome please don't argue with me about this. I've made my decision, now please go wake your brother and get washed up for breakfast.”

Kagome stared at her mother in shock for a few moments and then did as she was asked. She woke Sota and then went to the bathroom to get ready for breakfast the whole time thinking of the morning conversation she had with her mother. It had been a few years since she and Sota had been to public school. Granted the only reason they had started homeschooling in the first place was Kagome's schedule; but what was the need for them to go back?

When she was younger Kagome had told her parents that she wanted to dance. At that age school and dance classed fit together like puzzle pieces. School became more difficult when Kagome's dance skills excelled and her instructor suggested more advanced classes. That's when she and Sota started homeschooling. While her father worked all day, her mother made sure that she and Sota finished their studies and the made it to all lessons and recitals. That was how it was, that was all time allowed.

Kagome stopped mid-stride at her realization. Now understanding why she and Sota needed to go to public school, a deep frown darkened her face. Squaring her shoulders Kagome decided to finish cleaning up for breakfast and get ready for school at the same time. It was going to be her first day of public school in a very long time and she doubted that they would allow her to show up the same way she did for homeschooling; in her pajamas.

Forty-five minutes later Kagome re-entered the kitchen dressed for school. She wore a large black sweater over a grey tank top and faded blue jeans. Sitting at the table she filled her plate with two slices of toast, half an orange, scrambled eggs, and sausage. Another tip she learned here at the shrine. If you make it look like you have a full apatite people don't pay much attention to how much you actually eat. Kagome never really had a large apatite, but lately it was next to nothing. In her mind wasting a little bit of food seemed a lot better that everyone believing she was anorexic. She ate half of her toast and orange slices before scattering the rest of the food around the plate and excused herself from the table.

Rumi glanced at her daughter's plate and sighed. She knew Kagome was never really a big eater, dance made sure of that, but she still ate more than just the bare minimum. Not wanting to waste the food she dumped it into the cat's bowl.
“Here Buyo.”

The swollen patchwork cat tottered himself over to his bowl before gorging himself like a filled tick. When he finished, Buyo flopped onto the floor and rolled away from his bowl. Sota snickered at the gluttonous cat as he put his plate in the sink.
“One of these days Buyo you're gonna eat so much you're gonna pop.”

“Thank you dear. Go get ready for school. We're going to leave in about twenty minutes.”

“Okay.”

After getting ready, Sota met his mother and sister in the front entryway.

“Okay, shoes on, here's your backpacks. Alright let's go.”

After dropping Sota off at the middle school, Rumi pulled up in front of the high school. She tried reading her daughter's blank expression looking for a glimmer of emotion.
“Okay we're here. Would you like me to walk you to the front office?”

Kagome looked at all the students gathered in the school grounds. They were scattered across the yard in small packs. Not turning to look at her mother she answered.
“No thanks mom.”

“Alright then, have a nice day.”

Kagome opened the door and gathered her things. Getting out she heard her mother call to her before she closed the door. Stooping down she looked into the car at her mother.

“I love you.”

“I love you too, mom.”

Kagome closed the door and made her way to the front entrance of the main building. She passed several typed of groups on her way to the front doors. Not really paying attention to any of them she missed looks as she passed by. When she reached the front doors however something did catch her eye. Before she entered the main building, out of the corner of her eye, she caught a glimpse of something the color of moonbeams. Pretending not to notice and avoiding the aquardness of a double take Kagome entered the school building.

Inuyasha smirked to himself as he entered the school grounds. It wasn't the fact that it was the first day of school that had him so hyped, but the fact that it was senior year. He made it, despite what all his teachers said.

It wasn't that he was unintelligent, quite the contrary. He was a very smart student, sometimes too smart for his own good. Because of his intelligence, instead of his teachers believing him to be smart they just believed he was a smartass. It was that or his actual smartass attitude.

Either way it didn't matter to Inuyasha. This was going to be his year and nothing was going to keep him down.

Just as he thought that something massive landed on him from behind knocking him to the ground.
“Hey man, long time no see.”

Inuyasha knew exactly who that voice belongs to. He growled as he hoisted himself and the extra weight off of the ground.
“Get off of me bouzu.”

Standing he knocked the dirt from his red vintage shirt and his cargo jeans. His golden eyes narrowed in the shadow of his silver bangs as he glared at the young man across from him.
“What the fuck are you doing jumping on me for Miroku? Your ass aint light you know.”

“Whatever, you know I'm as light as a feather.”

“Yeah, if feathers weighed as much as a fucking whale.”

Miroku pressed his hand to his chest in shock. He clenched his fingers in the dark purple fabric and fell to his knees groaning.
“Ugh. Inuyasha you wound me. How could you say such horrible things about your friends? I feel so unloved.”

“Oh, shut up. Be lucky I was only talking about your weight and not your clothes. What the hell are you wearing anyway?”

Miroku looked down at his cloths; black carpenters, dark purple short sleeve shirt, black vest. It all looked pretty normal to him.
“What's wrong with my clothes? I wear stuff like this all the time.”

“I know man that is why I asked.”

“Screw you too.”
Miroku huffed as he got up and dusted off the lower leg of his pants.

Inuyasha snorted and started walking to the main entrance.
“I don't think Sango would appreciate that too much Miroku.”

At the mention of that name, Miroku practically floated as he followed Inuyasha.
“Ah, my beautiful goddess Sango. The angel sent from heaven for the likes of man to feast their eyes upon.”

“Man you're such a letch. She's gonna slug you if she hears you say that.”

Miroku sighed and closed his eyes.
“It would be worth it just to have the feel of Sango's flesh against my own.”

His eyes flew back open as a sharp slap sent him crashing to the ground. He stared up at the young woman in denim and pink who struck him down, lovingly stroking the scarlet handprint on his face.
“Hello Sango my dear.”

“Miroku Houshi, do you always have to be a pervert?”

Miroku scrambled to his feet and gathered Sango's hands between his own. He pulled her close to his chest and gently stroked her long dark ponytail.
“Only when it comes to rare beauties such as yourself Sango my dear.”

Sango growled and clenched her fists. Pulling her arm back she nailed Miroku square in the nose successfully knocking him back to the ground.
“Keep your hands to yourself pervert.”

Inuyasha laughed as he watched Miroku nurse his tender nose.
“You're gonna end up with a black eye before the day is out if you keep it up.”

“Yeah but it would be worth it.”

“Whatever man.”

Inuyasha helped Miroku to his feet and spoke to him in a low whisper so Sango wouldn't overhear.
“You know if you keep doing that shit by the time you actually work up the balls to ask her out she's gonna turn you down.”

“Yeah I know but sometimes I can't help myself.”

“Uh-hum. I'd hate to break up your intimate moment but if we don't stake our claim on our usual meeting spot somebody else will.”

They both looked at Sango and then at each other. A light shade of green tinted their faces before jumping away from one another.

“I assure you my dear Sango there is never been a moment between Inuyasha and myself that one would consider intimate.”

“Damn straight. If you weren't a girl I'd kick your ass for saying such a thing.”

“Whatever. You know I could take you on any day of the week. Come on. If we loose our spot because you're being dumb I'll…”

“Yeah, yeah we know. You'll kick our asses. You've been feeding us that line for as long as we can remember.”

“Then why do you make me continue to say it?”

“Because the temptations of hearing the words slip from between you lips it to great to resist.”

Sango rolled her eyes at the exasperating teenager. Just as quickly as she rolled them she narrowed them as she felt something caress against her backside. Gritting her teeth she knocked the offending hand away with one arm and slapped the face belonging to the roaming appendage with the other. Huffing she stomped off toward the front entrance of the school.

“Smooth lover boy, real smooth.”

“Ah, it was worth the pain.”
Miroku sighed caressing his cheek.

“Whatever. Come on.”
Inuyasha sighed, grabbing Miroku by the back of his vest.

Inuyasha and Miroku arrived at the front of the school where they found Sango chatting to a petite girl wearing a pleated skirt and sunshine yellow shirt sporting a side ponytail. Inuyasha called out as they approached.
“Hey Rin.”

The young girl looked up at the sound of her name being called. She smiled and waved.
“Hi Inuyasha, Miroku. How have you guys been?”

“Pretty good.”

“Not to bad. So tell me sweet lady what have you been up to?”

“Not much just waiting for you guys to show up. I figured you would be horsing around, like always; so I came to save our spot until you got here, like always.”

“Rin, I'm hurt. You make it seem like we are reckless juveniles.”

“That's because you are.”
Sango snickered.

“Keh. Says who?”

“Sesshomaru.”
Rin stated matter-of-factly.

“Hey that's right, you just spent the last two week vacationing with him for your birthday. So dish, now that you're eighteen, how did everything go?”

“Sango please. I'm not the type to kiss and tell, but since you asked…”

“Ooo spill, spill.”

“Ooo don't, don't.”
Inuyasha mimicked Sango's excitement.

“Inuyasha I've been dating you brother…”

“Half.”

“Gaah, your half-brother since freshman year. You would figure we would have sex at some point in time.”

“Yeah, but that doesn't mean we need to know about it.”

“Speak for yourself Inuyasha. I'm very inclined to hear what the young women have to say.”

“Fucking lecher. Can't you keep your perverted thoughts to your-”
Inuyasha stopped suddenly his nose twitching slightly. Just for a moment something light and airy danced around his senses. Never before has a scent stopped him in his tracks but this one had managed to do it. Before he had the chance to turn and see who the alluring scent belonged to it disappeared.

“Hey, Yash. What's up man? You just stopped all of the sudden.”

“Huh? Oh nothing. Come on, we better get to class. I'd hate to have to miss my first period nap.”

“Ha, see? Case proved right there. Reckless juveniles.”

“Rin if you're going to say it at least get it right. We're exhausted juveniles from expressing such reckless behavior. That's why we need our nap.”

“Whatever.”
