Night had fallen. A lonely figure made his way through a field of knee-high grass, his silvery-white hair shimmering in the faint light. His companions were nowhere to be seen - they had left at some point, though he couldn't recall when nor why. He just knew that they weren't there.

 

Inuyasha raised his head to look at the sky then let out a wistful sigh. There were so many things that he had hoped for, so many things that he had wanted to do. With a single word . . . a command, everything he had hoped for and had desired had evaporated like boiling water. He was an exile now. No longer welcome among his friends. No longer welcome anywhere. The final insult had come when the rosary . . . that damned rosary . . . had been given a new curse. A curse of claiming to the world his shame. He'd fallen in love, only to be spurned once more.

 

For a moment, he just stared up at the sky. Then, he dropped to his knees. The longing that had always been in his heart had finally overcome him. He'd be going no further that night.
