As night slowly fell over Japan, Briana acted as if she was asleep and tried to make her scent smell asleep too. She was pretty good at it because her mother told her how she often wandered away from Sesshoumaru to pick flowers or something and Sesshoumaru would never know. Her mother told her how to do it. Briana was lucky that she did.

 

When Sesshoumaru left again, she stood somewhat weakly, for she was still sick, and peeked out of the cave. Jaken was asleep inside so she didn't have to worry about him.

 

When she was sure that he was gone, she crept out. She started walking in the opposite direction of the village. She was sure she could find ways to take care of herself, even in this winter. She would just need to rest a lot and find food… `but where will I find food?' she thought. `Oh well, I could just eat the bark off the trees if I am starving' She kept walking farther and farther into the forest, not really knowing where she would end up.

 

After about an hour or so, she felt that she needed sleep. “Maybe I will just rest up in that tree for a little while” she said to herself, then, with the rest of the strength that she had, she climbed the tree and fell asleep on one of the limbs.

 

She woke up to the sound of snakes. “Mmmmmm…look Kaya, a tasty ssssssssnack” There were two large snake demons surrounding the tree. Briana gasped. “Yesssssssssssss she would be a perfect ssssssssssnack for the winter, Tana.” Briana gasped again then coughed. “Ah, she is ill too, perfect, then she won't be running away!” The snake demon named Tana said. Kaya and Tana cackled and slithered up the tree. Their bodies were 20 feet long and they were 5 feet around. As they slithered up, Briana had enough strength to let out a loud scream.

Sesshoumaru returned to the cave after maintaining peace in his lands to find that the woman was gone. He kicked Jaken, who awoke with a start and asked “Where is the girl?” somewhat angrily. “She should be sleeping over…uh oh…” Jaken said when he found that she was gone. “You were supposed to be watching her” Sesshoumaru said angrily. “I-I'm sorry Lord Sesshoumaru I-I was tired and-“ Jaken was interrupted by a high pitched scream of terror. Sesshoumaru sniffed the air. “There she is” he whispered and ran out of the cave. “Wait for me, Lord Sesshoumaru” Jaken yelled as he ran and tripped a few times. Sesshoumaru didn't listen, he just kept running.

Briana couldn't scream anymore, she could now barely even speak. The sound of her scream stunned the snake demons and when she stopped they both hissed “Finally”. They reached her up in the tree and Kaya wrapped around her and squeezed. Briana gasped, she couldn't breath. `Oh Kami-sama, look at what I have gotten myself into.' She thought. “Help, help” she tried to whisper. “No ones gonna ssssssssssave you sssssssnack!” Tana cackled. All Briana could think to answer that question was `I know'.

 

Just before she reached unconsciousness, a miracle happened. A bright yellow light whip lashed out and beheaded the snake demon that was choking Briana. It released its grip and Briana gasped in air. “Noooo, my ssssssissster!” Kaya hissed sadly, and then looked to where the whip came from.

 

Sesshoumaru jumped over many tree's and landed in front of Kaya. “Lord Sesshoumaru!” Kaya and Briana said together. Kaya bowed her head. “Milord, what have my ssssssisssssster and I done to dessserve sssssuch punishment?” Sesshoumaru stood tall and snapped his fingers to make the light whip. “You almost killed my ward” with that said, Sesshoumaru cut the head off of the second snake.

 

Briana just stared at him. “Ward?” she asked. “I am taking care of you and there for this Sesshoumaru has a right to call you that.” Sesshoumaru answered then he walked up to her a picked her up. “Come” He said then leapt into the air. Briana grabbed at the cloth under his armor and looked down. She had never been so high up before. Sesshoumaru was surprised when she grabbed onto him, when he found the reason why, he jumped higher and smirked at her expressions.

 

They landed outside of the cave, Sesshoumaru walked in with her still him his arms and lay her back by the fire. “Goodness, Briana, You gave me a heart attack! Don't run away again young lady, now I know how your mother and father feel! Good thing you'll be well enough to go back to them in two days.” Jaken said and Sesshoumaru knocked him on the head. Why did Jaken always have to bring up things that people don't want to hear?

 

Briana face which had somewhat of a smile on it from flying, now was frowning again. “Why must I return? Why can't I just leave on my own when I am better? I can find another village to live in.” She spoke. Sesshoumaru sat down and rested his head on one of the cave walls. “It would be better if you just went home.” He said calmly and closed his eyes. “Leaving you alone after you are better would be like me killing you right now; there isn't another village for miles, you have no chance.” Briana clutched her neck at the thought of Sesshoumaru killing her but then she bravely said. “Like I said the first time, I would rather wish to be dead then to return to the village and get married, no matter how rich he is…” Sesshoumaru looked at her then looked back up and said “Be careful what you wish for, girl, it just might come true.” Briana gulped. She didn't want to push this conversation any further, especially since she was feeling woozy.

 

Sesshoumaru heard her groan and he opened his eyes to see her teetering. Just before she fell into the fire, he reached out and grabbed her. Briana jumped and opened her eyes. She looked up and smiled when seeing that, yet again, Sesshoumaru saved her.

 

Sesshoumaru was surprised to find that she was freezing. The fire wasn't helping much. What else was Sesshoumaru to do but do something drastic. Sesshoumaru lay her back down and took off his armor and Kimono. Even though his chest was bare, he didn't feel cold.

 

Sesshoumaru picked up the freezing Briana and lay her on his lap with his kimono covering her. He then hugged her, trying to make her warm. This was something Sesshoumaru never thought he would EVER do. But this was Rin's daughter, and he would make sure this girl was safe and well. But was that the only reason he was doing this… After all, the woman in his arms was very beautiful…

 

`No, no thinking that, especially at a time like this!' He thought. He calmed and kept trying to make her warm. She had fallen unconscious and that was making it worse. He could smell the scent of death creeping up on her. He held her closer but nothing helped.

 

A few minutes later, she was laying in his arms, dead. Sesshoumaru lay her down beside him and stood. `Damn' was what he thought as he looked out of the cave. Jaken was yelling that she was dead and there wasn't anything they could do. Sesshoumaru knocked him on the head.

 

Suddenly, Tenseiga pulsed. `Save her?' Sesshoumaru thought, then pulled the sword out of the hilt. He walked back over to the dead woman and watched as the death demons crawled around her. He cut through them and Briana awoke from the dead.

 

“Ouch, what happened?” she asked, putting a hand to her head. Then she realized she didn't feel sick anymore. “Hey, I'm all better! I don't feel sick at all!” she yelled happily. She noticed Sesshoumaru didn't have a shirt on. Briana just had to ask. “Why don't you have your kimono on?”

 

“Because its wrapped around you” Sesshoumaru answered in monotone. “WHAT?!” Briana screamed, thinking he did something vulgar. “WHY?!” Briana pulled the kimono off her and threw it to Sesshoumaru who just simply put it on along with his armor. Without another word, he left.

 

Jaken Sighed. “You should be thanking Lord Sesshoumaru, Briana, after all, he did just save your life.” Jaken stated, watching Sesshoumaru walk away, and then throwing a log that was as big as him into the fire. “He did?” Briana asked surprised. “How?”

 

Jaken told Briana of the unusual events that had taken place when she was dieing. After he had finished she said amazed “Really? He did all that?”

 

“Yes, he was unusually kind…I have never seen him do something as drastic as that before…” Jaken replied, rubbing his chin. “Wow” Briana exclaimed. “He used the very sword that saved my mother…the Tenseiga…” she whispered. She had remembered her mother Rin telling her that Sesshoumaru only used Tenseiga when his heart, not his brain, told him to. Rin told her that it was very rare. She had said that she had seen the sword pulsate and Sesshoumaru looking so certain and somewhat compassionate when saving someone.

 

Briana tried to find reasons for him saving her and she decided on that it was because she was Rin's daughter. She told Jaken she wanted to take a walk and he said “Yes, but don't wander to far, other wise Sesshoumaru will be very mad.” Briana nodded then left. The sun was shining for it was now spring and the air smelled fresh and new. Briana walked through the forest when she heard a faint splash. She was about to just walk away and forget it, but curiosity took over her. She just had to investigate…

Sesshoumaru: Hey ::Inuyasha gets up::

Inuyasha: Since when did you become a softy?

Sesshoumaru: Shut up
