“Lord Sesshoumaru?”
He looked down at her and he could see she was very curious about something. Normally he wouldn't bother with it, yet he had to admit he was slightly curious as to what had the girl so perplexed.
“What is it Rin?” he asked her in his usual stoic voice so as not to reveal his own curiosity.
“Where do babies come from?” she asked innocently.
His eyes widened at her question and he cursed his curiosity. He didn't have a clue what to tell her, or rather, he didn't know how to put it.
“Jaken.” he called.
Looking down Rin was in thought and now more confused than ever. Her hand was up to her lip when she voiced her thought.
“Babies come from Master Jaken?” She paused for a moment trying to think about it. “But how do…” she stopped when she saw him walking away looking for his vassal. “Wait for me Lord Sesshoumaru.” and she ran up to him to walk beside him.
Looking around he wondered where that damn toad could have gone, and why was she asking him such a question. He looked down at her and saw the confusion and wonder on her face. He gave an exasperated sigh. Mostly because that damn toad was gone, which meant that he would have to answer her question because he knew she wasn't going to let this one go. He went over to a tree and sat down with his back against it.
“Babies…” he started, then stopped when he looked at her. “Ummm…”
“Yes Lord Sesshoumaru?”
She was looking at him with such innocence and wonder. He knew she would one day wonder about this matter, but it never occurred to him she would ask so soon.
“Where do they come from?” she asked waiting patiently for him to answer.
“They… Ummm…” he closed his eyes and sighed again. “Here.” he said pointing to her stomach.
“Here?” she was looking down at her tummy with her hands placed there.
“A woman's stomach.” he said simply, pleased with the sort answer.
“Oh.” she replied
When she said that one word he could here another question in how she had said it.
“Lord Sesshoumaru?”
“What is it Rin?”
“How do they get there?”
`Damn where is that toad?' he thought as his eye darted around, hoping that his vassal was somewhere nearby. When he didn't catch the scent or sight of him he sighed again. He opted instead for a simple explanation that would put an end to all these damn questions.
“A baby shop.”
“Huh?... How does a baby shop put a baby in the mommy's tummy?”
“It doesn't.” He said simply, and continued when he saw he had her attention. “When people want to have a baby they go buy one.”
“Are these shops in every village?”
“No, they aren't in the villages. People write letters saying they want a baby.”
“How long does it take till they have a baby?”
“Nine months.”
“Oh.” she replied. “Ummm… Lord Sesshoumaru?”
“Hai?”
“Where do youkai babies come from?”
His eyes widened with that question too. Then he closed them when he thought of an answer.
“Same place.” he said simply.
“Oh.” she replied, satisfied with the answer she was given. Then she looked at him again.
Sensing her gaze he opened his eyes and saw the look he knew all to well.
“What is it Rin?”
“Ummm… if they come from the same place, do they ever get mixed up?”
“How do you mean?”
“Well if a human family asks for a baby and a youkai family asks for a baby, do they ever accidentally bring a human baby to the youkai parents and a youkai baby to the human parents?”
“No.” he replied.
“Oh… Umm… Lord Sesshoumaru?”
“Yes Rin?”
“How do the babies get to the shop?”
“They make them there.”
“Oh.” she replied, but after a few silent moments that look was back on her face. “Lord Sesshoumaru?”
“What is it Rin?”
“How?”
“How what?”
“How do they make the babies?”
