InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Ripples ❯ Let's Go Crazy ( Chapter 1 )
Chapter 1: Let's Go Crazy
"Houshi-sama, I swear if you ever lay another finger on me, I'll break that hand off!" Sango yelled at the lecherous monk while storming into a clearing by a dry well.
Miroku rubbed his head which now sported a large bump. "But Sango-san, we both seek the destruction of Naraku, why can't we join forces?"
"Why? Because you are a lecherous monk that can't keep his hands off my rear. The chance meetings we do have are all I can take as it is."
Miroku was about to reply when suddenly, the dry well in the middle of the clearing glowed a bright blue. The two arguing covered their eyes until it was gone. When they looked, a black clad warrior was just disposing of a monster. When the monster was dead, the warrior turned to the two wide eyed people and walked over. A black mask covered the warrior's face, but it was obviously a woman. She looked at them and sighed heavily.
"Oh, just great, Gramps was right. That stupid well really is a portal and let me guess, this is feudal Japan, right?"
Sango shook herself out of her shock and examined the woman. She looked like an assassin and judging by the efficiency she disposed of the centipede monster, she had been trained in the art of war.
"Who are you and where did you come from?" Sango asked, suspiciously.
The woman looked at her with blue/grey eyes. "I'm Lynx and I came through the well. I'm not from this time and if my guess is correct, I'm from about 500 years in the future. Who are you?"
Sango gaped, disbelieving, but looking at Lynx's clothes, decided that it was true. She also decided that she rather liked Lynx when Miroku felt the new girl up and found himself on the ground twitching.
"I'm Sango, a demon exterminator and that pitiful excuse for a man is Miroku, a lecherous monk."
Lynx looked at them. "A demon exterminator, huh? Well, I guess you could say that in my time, I'm kinda a demon exterminator, too. The humans where I come from don't know anything about demons so someone has to protect them when one goes crazy. Most of the time demons and humans exist beside each other just fine, but every now and then you come across one that has a superiority complex. That's where I come in."
Miroku had gotten up and dusted himself off. "Lynx-san, could you possibly sway Sango-san to join me in our mutual quest to destroy Naraku? You are a woman, perhaps you can persuade her."
Just then, an old woman walked into the clearing. She came up to Sango and Miroku and handed them some bread.
"There ye go, Sango, Miroku. That bread should last ye a while. Who have ye found?"
Miroku put his bread away. "Kaede-baba, this is Lynx-san, she is from the future and is a demon exterminator. She came through the well. Lynx-san, this is Kaede-baba, a priestess and a good mentor."
Both women bowed to each other. Lynx suddenly jerked up and glanced at the forest. Without warning, she took off running as fast as she could. She knew only one thing could make her feel this tingle, a jewel shard. She stopped running when she came to a giant tree. Dangling on it was what looked like a boy, but she could see claws and dog ears. He was probably a half demon. Lynx looked around and located the shard; it was in the arrow that pinned the boy. Carefully, she climbed up the vines till she could reach the arrow. Suddenly, the boy woke up and blinked at her with golden eyes.
"Who the hell are you?" He said gruffly.
"Lynx, and did you know you have an arrow with a Shikon no Kakera in you?"
The boy looked taken back. "The arrow has a fragment of the Shikon in it? No wonder I couldn't pull it out. I'm Inuyasha and if Tetsusaiga let you this close to me, it must mean you can release me. So pull the arrow out already, wench!"
A scuffling was heard and Miroku, Sango and Kaede burst into view. They stood there in shock at finding Lynx and Inuyasha so close and talking.
"How did ye awaken, Inuyasha?"
The boy glared at Kaede. "Well who the hell are you, old woman?"
"Do ye not remember ye's little cousin, Kaede?"
He looked shocked. "How long have I been asleep?"
"Fifty years, now. How is it that Tetsusaiga allowed Lynx that close and how did ye wake up? Lynx, why did ye take off like that?"
"I sensed a shard of the Shikon no Tama and went after it. It is in the arrow that is sealing him."
Miroku and Sango's jaws were both hanging open. Kaede walked over and handed Lynx a rosary necklace.
"Here, Lynx, place these around Inuyasha's neck before ye remove the arrow."
Lynx did and then pulled the arrow out. She pocketed the shard and ducked as Inuyasha took a swing at her.
"Utter a subduing spell, Lynx!" Kaede called.
Lynx said the first thing that came to mind. "Sit!"
Inuyasha fell to the ground hard. Miroku and Sango walked over to Lynx and stared at her.
"What?"
"You were able to see the jewel and purify it, Lynx-sama. That can only mean one thing." Miroku said with awe.
Kaede stepped over Inuyasha's fallen form and patted Lynx on her shoulder. "Ye are the next Shikon no Tama Guardian, Lynx."
Lynx rolled her eyes. "I know that." Then she sighed. "I know all about Naraku killing Kikyou, the last Guardian, but beyond that I'm supposed to find the shards and restore the jewel, I'm lost."
Kaede looked taken back. "Ye know about my sister, Kikyou's death?"
Lynx nodded. "I live in a shrine and we do have legends and ancient scrolls. One day I cut myself and a jewel fragment fell out of me. After that, I decided to know as much as I could about the jewel and why it was in me. So, what I can figure is that I was supposed to have the whole thing inside me, but somehow it was broken and I only got a fragment. Other than that, I'm lost."
Kaede opened her mouth, but shut it when Inuyasha piped up. "Just one damn minute here. You're saying that this girl is the next guardian, Kaede? She's supposed to find all the jewel shards and defeat Naraku?" He erupted into laughter.
Lynx calmly kicked him square in the mouth, knocking him down. Miroku and Sango laughed as he jumped up looking startled. Kaede spoke up before there could be a huge fight.
"Lynx, could ye not remove thy face mask?"
Kagome looked at her and nodded, pulling down the mask that covered her face up to her eyes. Everyone gasped. She was one of the most beautiful women that they'd ever seen.
"When I come out from my mask, I am no longer Lynx, I am Kagome. Lynx is the name I used when I was exterminating so no one would know my real name."
Miroku took her hands. "Kagome-sama, will you do me the honor of bearing my child?"
Kagome smiled but shook her head. "Um, Miroku, not that I'm not honored and everything, but no, you should wait for someone you love."
He looked disappointed but nodded.
"So, where can I find out about being a guardian, Kaede-baba?"
Kaede looked hesitantly at her and sighed. "The only known scrolls and books on that belong to Inuyasha's brother, Sesshoumaru."
Inuyasha groaned. "That means you'll never get them. Sesshoumaru does not deal with humans or me period."
"What's so bad about him?"
"He's the Taiyoukai of the Western Lands, that's what. He's totally emotionless and will kill you before you can even explain what you are doing on his land."
Kagome sighed. "Ok, Naraku was the dude who broke the Shikon no Tama, right?"
"Hai, a lower demon stole it from Kikyou's grave. Naraku slashed the demon and accidentally shattered the jewel. He is gathering the shards and with every one he gains, his power increases." Kaede muttered sadly.
"All of ya'll want to destroy Naraku, right? Miroku for his wind tunnel, Sango for her family, and Inuyasha for Kikyou."
They looked startled. "How did you know?"
Kagome smiled. "Sometimes I just know things, always have. Anyways, my idea is that we gather the jewel shards instead of focusing on Naraku, because the more we have, the less he can get. So we get the shards and when there are no more out there except for the ones Naraku has, then we'll face him."
Miroku nodded. "That is a wise plan, but you keep saying `we.'"
"Hai, we. Since there is strength in numbers, we should work together instead of working against each other and Naraku."
The group looked at each other, wondering if they could get along long enough to finish the quest. Kagome's words rang with wisdom, though, so they decided to give it a shot. Even Inuyasha relented when he found out Kagome was the only one who could see the shards.
"Oh, and one more thing, I think I might just pay a small visit to your brother, Inuyasha. I want to see what he was like as an adolescent."
Inuyasha looked at her like she was crazy. "Are you insane? He'll kill you! Oi, and what do you mean, `adolescent?' You mean you know Sesshoumaru in your time?"
Kagome smiled at him and fixed her ponytail. "I think it's the same one, because you don't have two brothers named Sesshoumaru, do you?"
"Hang on just a bloomin minute! Are you saying you know me in your time?"
She giggled and walked over to him. "You have a birthmark right here," she said pointing to his right thigh, "that looks like a turtle. And you like having your ears rubbed, no matter how much you protest."
Inuyasha sputtered and looked at her wide-eyed. Miroku snickered and Sango cracked a smile.
"Is it true, Inuyasha?" Kaede asked.
"Yeah, I got the turtle, but the ear thing is not true."
The group had been walking back to the village during this and entered Kaede's home. Kaede gave them all some food and addressed Kagome.
"Kagome, I understand your need for Sesshoumaru's information, but you must remember that he might not be the same as he is in your time."
Kagome picked at her soup. "I know. He told me that he used to be pretty vicious and indifferent, so I'll have to be on my guard. Lucky for me though, I've trained with him in my time, but the Sesshoumaru here hasn't trained with me. I'll know his weaknesses, but he won't know mine."
Sango, Miroku, and Inuyasha exchanged looks. "You mean to tell me, Kagome-sama, that Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha are actually on friendly terms with you?"
Kagome grinned. "Well, maybe not friendly, but not unfriendly. We help each other when we can, but we aren't close. We met when they were in a pretty sticky situation and I got them out. They bugged me until they found out who I really was and boy, when they set their minds to getting something, buddy, they get it!" Kagome laughed.
Kaede smiled at her and Inuyasha. "That does sound like ye, Inuyasha."
Sango looked at Kagome. "When will you go to the Western Lands?"
"Well, I don't really know how to get there, all I know is what Sesshou has told me about the palace. Inu, do you think you could get me to the palace? I can take it from there."
"Inu? Well, ain't the wench getting all friendly." Kagome socked him in the arm. "Ow, ok, I'll take you there, but after that, you're on your own."
"Great! But you guys shouldn't wait around on me, because I don't know how long I'll be. How bout if you come back in three weeks to Kaede's house and we can meet up here. If I'm done before then, I'll just come here. In the mean time, ya'll should look for jewel shards."
"How are we going to find them without you, Kagome-sama?" Miroku asked while massaging his now lumpy head.
Sango glared at him and muttered, "Hentai."
"Let me have all of your jewel shards."
They each gave her their shards and watched as she purified them and gave one to each person.
"I've asked the shards to allow you to see other shards for a month. After that, it won't work."
The group was once again jerked out of their awe, by a tiny voice.
"Mommy, I'm hungry."
Kagome poured some soup into another bowl and set it next to her. "Alright, Shippou, come and eat."
To everyone's surprise, a tiny kitsune popped up on Kagome's shoulder and jumped down to the soup. He slurped the soup down and crawled into Kagome's lap, staring at the people around him.
"What?" He asked.
"Kagome-sama, is that your son?" Miroku asked.
Inuyasha snorted. "Course it ain't her son, he's a full blooded kitsune, he can't be her son."
Kagome glared at him. "Shippou is my son. I saved him from a gang led by Hiten and Manten. They had killed his parents. He's been with me ever since."
Shippou walked over to Inuyasha and stared at him. "What, kit?" he growled.
The boy grinned and ran back to Kagome. "Yep, he sure does act like Uncle Inu. I bet he has a thing for Ramen, too."
Kagome laughed. "We'll have to bring him some next time we come through the well. Shippou, it's time for you to sleep."
The boy nodded and curled up in her lap. Kagome said goodnight to the group and lay down. "Ya'll better get some sleep so we can leave early tomorrow. The quicker I get there, the quicker I can come back." With that, she drifted off to sleep.
Miroku leaned against a wall. "I wonder what Kagome-sama will find out."
Inuyasha rested against the opposite wall. "Nothing, probably. Sesshoumaru won't let her anywhere near his private library."
Sango rolled onto her side. "I don't know, Inuyasha, you didn't see the way she handled that centipede monster. I've never seen anything like it. It's like, when she puts on her mask, she turns into Lynx who is a totally different person from Kagome. Lynx is aggressive and deadly, whereas Kagome is sweet and calm. It's odd."
Miroku agreed. "She's an odd person, but I think she'll be a good ally."
"Hai, houshi-sama, and a good friend."
Inuyasha didn't say anything, but secretly he wondered about this girl, Kagome. Night rolled in and found the group fast asleep.
