InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Risen from ashes ❯ Under the watchful gaze of the Moon ( Chapter 1 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
The glorious Moon was out that night. He sat on his eternal throne, a silent witness to all that happens under his reign. He watched as Destiny slowly weaved herself on Earth below, writing the story of those who were unfortunate enough to have captured her ever vigilant eye. He watched as she wrought pain, misery and heartache, as she is accustomed to since such brought her immense pleasure. Knowing he could not save the poor soul, he stood motionless as a young girl came out of a door and walked towards a fountain, as she was supposed to. And in the dead of the night, Destiny shrieked a malevolent laugh.
It was dark, though the moon and the stars illuminated the black sky with their splendid radiance. She didn't know what would make her think thus, but the moon seemed a little dull on this night, as if mourning the death of a loved one. She shivered as a breeze swept passed her, pulled at her hair and clothes. It chilled her to the bone, not because it was cold, but because she could've sworn that it had carried an evil laugh, the kind that echoed in your ears repeatedly and awoke the deeply engraved need to flee.
Shaking off the ridiculous feeling, she continued her way to the fountain not too far off. The fresh green grass crunched under her feet as she hurriedly walked barefoot towards her destination. The large white shirt she wore engulfed her curvaceous frame and swished around her hips. The trees scattered around her cast foreboding shadows on her form. The rocks and twigs dug into her feet but she didn't feel the pain. She finally reached the fountain and sat on its rim. Above her, the Greek goddess of innocence, Persephone, sat on a rock surrounded by vines and wild flowers. In her hands, she cupped the flower of purity, a lily, and from its center spilled the essence of life. Unnoticed by the young girl, Persephone's eyes seemed to sadden, her lips pressing together, holding in the moan of pain at the injustice of it all she could not voice. Through this all, Kagome continued to stare at her reflection, her head cocked to the side as if in thought. Large, almond shaped eyes innocently blinked back at her from the water. Her full, pouty lips would purse and she would scrunch her nose whenever an unpleasant thought would enter head. Her cheeks were always rosy, a trait she despised but which others found endearing. Of course, their faces weren't the ones turning a vivid red whenever they blushed!
Her body slumped over as she sighed and watched a wisp of her breath curl on itself and rise into the air only to disappear long before it touched the sky. She heard a twig snap behind her. She jumped from her seat and whirled on her intruder, fully intending on scolding them for spying and scaring her. The words died on her lips as her dark and stormy eyes locked onto molten gold. Her breath caught in her throat as she took him in, in all his wild beauty, from his strong chin to his muscled legs encased in shorts that fell to his knees. She could feel her heart beat faster as she gazed at his full lips and wondered if they felt as soft as they looked. She gawked at his long, muscled arms with blue veins running down their length, strong hands fisted at his sides. At that moment, she could kiss the man who invented undershirts for men. It fit snugly to his taught stomach and she had to mentally berate herself to stop her gawking.
She finally managed to tear her eyes away from his drool-worthy body only to notice the amusement in his eyes. He smirked at her, his arms crossed and his head tilted slightly to the left. She could feel her face heat up and damned him for having the power to make her blush.
“What are you doing out here this late at night, aren't you supposed to be asleep? ” he asked curiously, the smirk never leaving his face.
“What I do is none of your business” she answered back hauntingly.
He was before her in four long strides. He unfolded his arms and grasped her waist.
“Ah, ah, ah!” he said shaking his head. “That's not the answer I wanted little angel.”
He curled his fingers and lightly scratched her sides. She burst into giggles, the sound of her laugh a soothing balm to tortured souls.
“Alright, alright I give. The others are sleeping. I snuck out, I wanted to take a walk and watch the stars. ”
He quirked a brow at her and smiled at her. He looked quite dashing with the moonlight shinning its light on him, giving him an ethereal glow, she thought. She looked up at him through her bangs, a shy look in her eyes. Her long black hair fluttered in the wind, the strands tickling his neck. He watched as she blinked slowly, he long lashes gently caressing her cheek. His gentle eyes locked onto hers as he closed the distance between them. He pressed his hand to the small of her back and pulled her to him, his other hand coming up to cradle her head. He pressed her against his chest and held her tight. Her arms twined around his neck as her breath caught in her throat. He was so gentle; his hand drawing circles on her back calming her. She felt safe and warm in his embrace, as if the rest of the world did not exist. In that moment in time, he was her safe haven, his silver hair twirling around her and shielding her from the rest of the world. She inhaled his musky sent and closed her eyes. The strong beat of his heart drumming in her ear lulled her. Together, they swayed to a tune only they could hear. She brought a hand down and tucked it under her cheek, against his chest. She smiled a small smile, and for the first time in a long time, she was content. Unbeknownst to her, she would've been better off if she had slept through the night and not woken up to take a walk. As her eyes slipped closed and his arms tightened around her, the Moon looked down on them and sighed, his sad gaze taking in the scene below him, and Destiny's gleeful voice cackled well into the night.
