Risky

Disclaimer: I don't own InuYasha!
Author's Notes: I'll explain this one at the end. I warn now of a few moments of mildly graphic violence towards children. Enjoy! (the story, not violence towards children. That's bad.)
Sealed.
“We'll hold him for as long as possible.” Kagome said softly, smiling at him in reassurance; it was thin and worried, but a smile nonetheless.
The door was shut, faint slaps of paper against wood was heard, and the combined murmur of Kagome and Miroku's chanting were the only things he heard. He hated his night of weakness. He hated it more that an earlier encounter with Kagura had led Naraku to their campsite. He hated that he couldn't do anything, that his friends were at Naraku's mercy, and he could only sit and wait out the remaining time to sunrise.
He slammed his fist against the floor in frustration. Sounds from the battle drifted through the shuttered window, and InuYasha began to pace anxiously. `Kagome…' He'd promised to protect her, and now when it mattered most, he couldn't. She was forced to protect him.
Sango's anguished cry pierced the air. Kagome screamed. He flew to the window, punching the wood out of the way; he ignored the splinters. However, the sight before him was not one he would expect: Makoto, his eldest son, was pinned to a tree through his stomach. Tomoya, Makoto's twin sister, shrieked as she clawed at the vine-like tentacles wrapping their way to her neck. Kagome sobbed as she clutched the corpse of their youngest, Himeko, a girl no older than two. She didn't even flinch when Naraku's hands wrapped around her throat, lifting her from the ground.
InuYasha roared his grief, fighting against the protective magic keeping him from his family. “NO!”
His mate's body fell, landing with a sickening crunch.
-----
InuYasha sat up with a start. Fear sweat drenched his body, while his mate slumbered peacefully next to him. His gulped in air, trying to calm his racing heart; he slipped out from their futon, and went into the children's room. The three, their blankets askew, didn't so much as twitch when he knelt and briefly touched each of their faces in turn. Comforted slightly, InuYasha returned to his and Kagome's futon. He wrapped his arms around her tightly, burying his face in her neck. He felt the pup kick gently and allowed himself a smile.
So much was here to lose. He'd known that from the start, but damned if that wench hadn't charmed her way into his heart anyway. He had a family now. It was risky. Only the gods knew how many times he'd seen that hurt in his mate's eyes when a stranger jeered at her and their children. He could only pray that no one would do to her and their children as they'd done to his mother. So much could go wrong, so much could be lost; but if he could just see the joy in her face as they were surrounded by their growing brood every day for as long as he could, it was worth the risk.
((This one was inspired a little weirdly. The store I work at during school holidays was closing, and the TVs in the store didn't need to be used as advertising anymore. So we had a bunch of family-friendly movies playing during the holiday season. One of them was `The Incredibles'. The scene where the plane is being attacked by the missiles and Mr. Incredible hears their children are on board gets me every time. So… yeah. ^^;; I hope you liked it!!))
