The soft delicate feather shifted slightly at the end of the vibrating length of wood that stuck out of the earthen floor, emanating a faint blue glow as the spiritual energies slowly dissipated. Glancing back Sesshoumaru gazed at the distraught face of his brother's miko companion. His sword halted moments before slicing through the insolent wolf, he knew it was a warning shot, the wench's aim was far better than that.
Quickly she positioned another arrow into the bow and aimed, not bothering with a warning, he knew it was directed to a possible fatal part of his body. Physically she may be weak, but her powers could do him damage. It would be a serious tactical error to be injured with Naraku still so close.
Stepping back cautiously he replaced the Tokajin at his hip, moving to rest his hand lightly on the hilt of the Tenseiga. With a narrowed glare she focused her aim on the kneeling wolf.
“Move Kouga,” she hissed. She had heard the majority of their conversation; she was not going to let the wolf stay near her Inuyasha.
Kouga remained in place, his face angled so she could not see his expression. He just kept staring down at Inuyasha, his hands braced on either side of him, his legs curled beneath his body.
“I said move.” She said slowly, menacingly. Kouga didn't even cringe. Tears welled up in her eyes as her gaze wavered to the crumpled form beside the wolf. She had been able to ignore it until now, but there was no way she could block him from her vision. Her sight blurring she lowered her bow and rushed forward, collapsing on top of him, burying her face in the bloodied cloth of his haori, hiccoughing between sobs.
Resisting the urge to curl his upper lip in disgust over the pointless emotional breakdown Sesshoumaru stepped back towards them, unsheathing the Tenseiga.
“Step back human.” He all but snarled at the girl, kicking the wolf aside. Kouga fell back limply, lying on the ground, his gaze never leaving Inuyasha's lifeless eyes.
Kagome looked up through her hands, fisted in the thick red cloth that covered her beloved hanyou. Sitting back, slight hope filling within her she watched as Sesshoumaru swung the beautiful slender sword over the corpse of his hanyou brother. Moments passed and Sesshoumaru resheathed his sword, watching intently for any signs of Inuyasha's revival.
The corps remained motionless, no life rousing within him. Kagome's eyes began to fill up again with tears and Kouga's shoulders slumped further down. Turning away Sesshoumaru prepared to walk off, only to face the confused and troubled faces of the rest of Inuyasha's group. The stench of blood now covered any traces of what transpired between the wolf and half dog, no one but the four original occupants of the cave knew about Kouga's actions. Pressing his lips into a thin line he hid his anxiety as he moved forward, only to pause as a soft gasp filled the still quiet of the cave.
Small wavering heartbeats emanated from the hanyou's chest as his body tried desperately to make use of what little blood remained in his system. Groaning Inuyasha blinked his sightless eyes, the others watching in stunned fascination as little by little he pushed himself up, gazing around until his eyes locked on the wolf.
With a soft, inaudible sigh Sesshoumaru left the cave, not bothering to glance at his brother.
Kouga sat up, shaking as Inuyasha watched him, not really knowing what to do. Kagome was moments away from throwing her arms around the half dog when Inuyasha spoke. It was a soft raspy sound, but easily heard.
“You alright wolfy?” he asked. Kagome gulped down a breath of air in an attempt to stay calm, glaring at Kouga as he stuttered for an answer. The hanyou didn't need one as he crawled onto Kouga's lap, gazing straight into his eyes before collapsing into his chest. “I was scared Naraku might hurt you.” He laughed softly, delirious from the blood loss, before closing his eyes and sighing. “I'm so tired, but when I wake up I'm gonna kick your sorry ass for what you did, so be ready.”
He giggled. It was such a strange sound coming from Inuyasha's lips and Kouga had to resist the urge to pull away because if he did Inuyasha would hit the floor.
“S-sure mutt.” he whispered

See?! Sesshoumaru neither spared, nor killed Kouga. Everybody is happy! Right? RIGHT?! SAY YES DAMNIT!!!!!!
Inuyasha will be yo-yoing in and out of fantasy-land during a portion of the next chapter. Blood loss is a lot more fun then drunkenness or sleepiness because…just because! Inuyasha is absolutely NOT responsible for whatever he says/does while he's like this; he can't really help it if he's gone loopy and lightheaded. ;3
