Inuyasha had reached his apartment in a blur, and was currently pacing the floor staring the scrap of paper containing Kagome's number. He was wondering why the damn thing hadn't burst into flames yet. He was certainly staring at it hard enough. The inu-hanyou sighed and ran his claws through his long hair. It was infuriating how she had invaded his thoughts after only meeting her once. So why exactly was he thinking about her again? And why was he actually missing her? Maybe it was the way her eyes sparked just before she hurt him and screamed in his face. He liked a woman who could stick up for herself. It was most likely just the way she smelled. Yeah that had to be it… He groaned and slammed his forehead into his refrigerator door, leaving a slight impression.

Slowly, and against his better judgment he picked up his phone and dialed the number for information.

“Yeah, I need to get an address…”

BACK ON THE ROOFTOP

Kagome strummed the guitar absentmindedly, eyes trained up at the stars as she lounged on the pillows trying to clear her mind. It kept on getting stuck on the guy who had made her want to rip those cute little ears directly off of his head. Why did he have to open his mouth? He was perfect before that. Though she did enjoy someone who could actually hold his own in a fight. Especially against her and her notorious stubborn streak. She sighed and dragged a hand through her hair before launching into The Smashing Pumpkin's Disarm; a song that usually made her feel like she was the only person on earth. The cords sounded as her clear alto floated across the rooftop and made its way to the street, where unknown to her, someone with very sensitive hearing froze with his finger an inch away from her intercom buzzer.

ON THE STREET

It seemed that his legs had a mind of their own. Once he had her address he'd hopped rooftop to rooftop until he had landed in front of her door. It hadn't taken him long to get there, she didn't live too terribly far. Consequence being that he didn't have time to talk his legs out of going in the first place. Cursing his legs yet again, he hesitated, wondering what her reaction would be. Would she be happy to see him? Most likely not. She would probably smack him around a bit before tossing him out. But damn it if there weren't some things they needed to talk about. He had to make sure she understood everything she could about demons. The stubborn girl was likely to get herself into some serious trouble. Not that he cared, of course. He had secretly hoped that the entire place was a bookbindery and that information had screwed up, but no such luck. He had noticed the steel elevator door almost immediately. Plus her scent leading through said door may as well been a neon sign. He steeled himself and reached for her intercom button but froze when a voice pierced the night and made his ears perk up. It was accompanied by an acoustic and was very very near to him. Was it her? Only one way to find out, ne?

He quickly bounded up the fire escape on the building across the street. From there he had a perfect view of the rooftop of her building. What he saw surprised him. There was a sort of outdoor room situated on the roof. It had a heavy wood and draped fabric structure covering a few low oriental couches and tons of floor pillows scattered about. A low table was off to the side, and was covered with sheets of paper and other supplies. That wasn't the surprising part. Kagome was situated on some of the pillows in what looked like a simple tank and…gulp…no pants. An acoustic guitar was in her lap and she strummed it expertly. Her head was thrown back and her eyes were closed as she sang what was one of his favorite Smashing Pumpkin's songs. The one that made him feel like there was no one else in the world. He was awestruck at the voice that was coming out of her. It wasn't the high voice he expected, but a strong alto that had edgy undertones. It rang across the street and seemed to burn into his very soul and melt a sheet of ice off of his heart. Her voice arched into the crescendo and rose in volume, making his ears inadvertently perk towards her as far as they could go. He was so intent on her voice that he didn't notice the railing that he was currently placing all of his weight on was extremely old and rusted. He did notice, however when it gave out from under him and started his six story plunge towards the street.

ON THE ROOFTOP

Kagome froze in her song. `What the hell was that?' She had heard a deafening crash and a yelled curse from the street. Dropping the acoustic she rushed over to the roof edge and peered down. What she saw shocked her. Lying in the middle of the street was the very man that had plagued her thoughts all night, long silver hair spread across the pavement. Only this time he wasn't spitting insults. He wasn't even moving.
