Reminiscing

Inuyasha leaned against the Goshenkbu. His hands behind his head and Tetsusaiga leaned against the trunk beside him. It had been two weeks since Naraku's defeat at their hands. He smirked slightly at all that had happened.

 

They had finally tracked him down to his moving castle after months of searching. All the players were there. Kana with Moryoumaru and Akano and of course Naraku himself. The blue demon orb was able to mask Akano, but not Naraku. Inuyasha's gang had been first on the scene quickly followed by Sesshomaru. A long stare between brothers confirmed that this one time they would put aside their differences. The wolf had shown up as well, but that was small matter to Inuyasha. He just wanted this quest over and done with. Naraku had been alive long enough.

 

Inuyasha slowly drew Tetsusaiga and it grew into the mighty fang that his father passed to him. Sesshomaru drew Toukijin and they slowly advanced onto the grounds. The rest followed, Miroku and Sango walking side by side, staff and boomerang ready. Kagome had an arrow notched and ready but pointed down, ready for anything. They had left Shippo with Kaede in the village. Sesshomaru had no doubt left Rin with Jaken and Ah-Un. Koga was up with the inu-brothers, sniffing the air as they were waiting for some clue.

 

The first attack came from the right as they came into a court yard. Inuyasha barely flinched as he continued to look straight ahead. Tetsusaiga flicked quickly to guard his side and deflected the spike heavenward. Kagome was stunned. She had never seen Inuyasha like this. He was calm and calculating, and had a serious expression on his face. A slow clapping came from ahead of them. Naraku came from around a column, smiling evilly-evil.

 

"Well done half-breed." He spat.

 

From the right Moryoumaru came into view and growled. His new body towering over Sesshomaru. Kana appeared next to Naraku holding Akano. The baby figure looked onto the field and stared coldly at the gathering. Kagome raised her bow and pulled the string taught and aimed at Naraku. Sango and Miroku flanked her and squared off against Moryoumaru. Koga bared his claws and Sesshomaru brought Toukijin up to a ready position.

 

"Come to avenge your whore Inuyasha?" Naraku spoke softly.

 

Kagome felt a flash of jealousy when he mentioned Kikyo but the response from Inuyasha is what surprised her the most.

 

"She was no whore, but I do thank you for sending her spirit on." He said calmly.

 

Sango, Miroku, and Kagome all glanced towards him in utter disbelief. Inuyasha had been acting weird for a while now. He had been less testy with them, quiet when they had asked to stop. Helpful when they set up camp, often getting wood for the fire and hunting or fishing for food. Kagome had tried to talk to him a few times, ask him what was going and if he was ok. His usual response was to shrug her concerns off and tell her he was fine and to stop being so nosy. Unlike previous encounters with this response, Kagome found that these latest versions were soft and gentle not the hateful pushing away she was used to. She didn't know what to do about it. It was confusing her something fierce.

 

Now here they were, hopefully for the final showdown and he was not falling for the usual tempting to make him charge off half-cocked.

 

"Naraku, you die here today." Inuyasha said coldly as he twisted Tetsusaiga down to his side and it flared brightly. The thick coating of diamonds traveled from the hilt to the tip. He snarled low in his throat and in a flash he was gone. Kagome's eyes widened as the small cloud of dust where he was flowed up and a resounding clang rang through the courtyard.

 

Kana had barely had time to move as Naraku's eyes widened when he lost track of the half demon. The mirror tried to repel Inuyasha's blow but she was quickly losing. Her small arms started to buckle under the pressure of Inuyasha's...one handed strike. The mirror began to crack and soon it was shattered as the sword came down and sliced her in two. The resulting blast left a two-foot deep hole in front of Inuyasha and Naraku had barely managed to move out of the way. He was staring where Kana once was and as look of fear crossed his face for a brief moment. He held Akano in his arms thankful that he was quick enough to grab him.

 

Moryoumaru sprang into action and attacked Sango and Miroku. They dodged and attacked the best they could. He was fast and it showed. Their attacks seemed to bounce off his tough hide as he continued to strike the ground. Sesshomaru and Koga charged him quickly. Koga was knocked away almost instantly while Toukijin sank deep into Moryoumaru's arm as it came up to block. Koga quickly recovered and kicked his opened side and sent him skidding away. Naraku saw this and slowly tried to fade to the back ground. Akano was now a liability in his current state. So, without any further thought, Naraku absorbed him, jewel and all. With it inside him, he knew he could escape the Inu noses and hide again to rethink his strategy. That would have been his plan had a clawed hand not plunged into his back; which managed to extract the orb from his chest.

 

"You don't get to hide anymore." Growled Inuyasha from behind him. With a quick swing of his arm, Naraku went flying into the center of the courtyard and rolled into a wall. Inuyasha stood there with the orb. He threw it to the ground and shattered it with a single strike from Tetsusaiga. Sesshomaru and Koga had succeeded in pushing Moryoumaru back away from the group. Koga, with one final kick to the face, blinded Moryoumaru. While staggering back, Sesshomaru powered up.

 

"Dragon Strike" He said coolly and fried Moryoumaru.

 

InuYasha stood over Naraku's body, which was already healing itself. Naraku slowly rose and faced Inuyasha.

 

"So, you are more powerful than I thought." As he stared with a hungry look towards InuYasha. 'If I could absorb him, then my power would be unstoppable.'

 

Sango and Miroku stood beside Kagome watching this unfold. 'When did he get this strong' they all thought.

 

Inuyasha held the fang in front of him and smirked at Naraku. They started pacing around each other. Sesshomaru and Koga watched this. Koga wanted to jump in but Sesshomaru threw his arm out to stop him. Never taking his eyes off of Inuyasha, Sesshomaru put Toukijin back in his sash and watched, unblinking. His face betrayed no emotion.

 

Inuyasha continued to watch Naraku who finally got fed up with their little dance. He reached behind his back and pulled out a bone sword and charged at Inuyasha. He easily deflected the strike and pulled back, waiting.

 

"Afraid to fight me now, half-breed?" He taunted, hoping to get him to come at him blindly.

 

"That isn't going to work coward. And you don't have any room to talk about 'tainted blood' do you?" Inuyasha calmly replied. "So desperate for a piece of ass that you had to get demon's to help you get it up. It's sad really."

 

Naraku didn't take kindly to that. He lashed out screaming at Inuyasha. The clangs of their weapons was almost deafening as energy lashed out with each contact. Inuyasha had yet to put both hands on Tetsusaiga as they dueled. He parried Naraku and sliced his right arm off. Spinning around and facing him again. Naraku's arm disintegrated in mid air as did the sword it held. He quickly stepped back and regenerated his arm. He laughed.

 

"You can't kill me Inuyasha" He chuckled.

 

"Not by myself I can't" Inuyasha said smirking.

 

Naraku didn't have time to consider his words as the sound of a bow being pulled taut seemed to echo through the courtyard. A loud twang was the only warning of the arrow being loosed. Naraku turned quickly but it was already too late. The sacred arrow pierced his chest dead center. The purifying power was already melting away his form. His heart was in danger, he couldn't survive this. But he'd be damned if he went alone. He quickly shot pointed spikes at Kagome. He would take the reincarnation to hell with him. Letting Inuyasha loose his woman three times in one lifetime. He smirked as he saw her dawning look of horror at his projectiles.

 

It was short lived. As Kagome brought up her arms to shield herself a shadow stopped in front of her and took the full brunt of the attack. She looked up and saw the familiar fire rat haori in front of her, Tetsusaiga out to the side as his arms were up in a defensive wall. She started to reach for him.

 

"You'll never harm her, as long as I live." He roared as his whole body pulsed. His hair started to flow around his head as a wind picked it up. His demon marks were glowing on his cheeks as he tightened his grip on Tetsusaiga. He quickly brought it over his head and crashed it against the ground. The backlash wave spun forth and tore through Naraku's body quickly followed by the wind scar. The massive energy wave destroyed his limbs first and continued to vaporize his body. He screamed as his body was slowly destroyed by the combination of his power and Kagome's miko energy.

 

As the last of Naraku's ash disappeared, Inuyasha dropped Tetsusaiga by his side and fell to his knees. Kagome quickly dropped her bow and wrapped her arms around him. Her arms were quickly covered with his blood from the multiple spikes in his chest and body. She quickly maneuvered him to where he was lying on his back with his head on her lap. She ran her hands through his hair and cried.

 

"Inuyasha..." she sobbed as she looked down on his face. He was smiling up at her. His eyes locked on hers.

 

"I'm sorry..." He spoke quietly.

 

"For what?" She spoke softly

 

"For not telling you how I feel. That I love you." He said as his body tensed and he crushed the pain before he could scream. He would not look weak now.

 

Everyone closed around him, even Sesshomaru.

 

"You can't leave me." She choked out. Her forehead now resting on his. Her tears streaming down her cheeks and onto his. "I love you too much to let you go."

 

A soft glow began to surround them. The blue aura went unnoticed to the two. They continued to look into each other's eyes. She leaned forward and gave him an upside down kiss. Her lips softly over his as their eyes closed and their lips pressed together tighter. The soft glow turned into a blinding light and everyone looked away as it enveloped the entire area. As it subsided, everyone turned back towards the two and gasped. They were still kissing; Inuyasha's wounds were all healed. They slowly broke apart their eyes opening. He looked up at her and smiled. She started to laugh softly as her hands cupped his face. She quickly moved and was over him in a second. His arms wrapped around her as she laid herself on top of him. They were kissing deeply now as tears streamed down both of their faces. Miroku wrapped his arm around Sango and turned away. Koga looked mildly defeated but he smiled and leaned down. He removed both parts of the jewel from his legs and tossed them towards Miroku. He grabbed them and nodded his acceptance. Koga took off and ran towards the wolf clan. Sesshomaru looked at the two and actually smirked. His brother had earned his respect. He would have to come back and test him, after a few days. He turned and slowly made his way back to his group.

 

The rest of them finally got the two separated and headed back to the village. Upon their return they went their separate ways.
