*~Ruby Dreams~*
Just a cute little one shot for Valentines Day. I couldn't resist, but please review!!! ^_^
Kagome sighed outwardly. It had been a long morning. She was currentely on the bus to the central business area in Tokyo. Her job, after all, was calling to her. Journalism could be tough, and this day had started out bad. Kagome had almost had to pour water over herself to wake up, and once out of bed, had tripped over her calico cat, Yuko, who was a descendant of her long-deceased feline, Buyo. Kagome smiled wearily. Sweet little Buyo. Just memories was enough to send her back into the days of high school, the days when she had the time to think about guys like Hojo, and the times when she was able to actually hang out with her friends. Kagome frowned. Now that she was through college and into the working world, she found that things that were a lot harder than she had expected.
As the bus rolled to a stop outside the executive building where she worked, Kagome's purse fell forwards onto the floor. She stooped to reach for it, but a steady crowd of people jumped up from their seats, rushing out the doors and walking all over her bag in the process. When the last of the mob had parted, Kagome glanced down, frowning as her eyes fell upon her demolished belonging. It had been a leather backpack with a tiny black cat embroidered in the bottom corner. Her favorite bag, and now it had footprints and mud smeared all over it. Kagome sighed again, and went to pick it up as she thought to herself,
"This is terrible. The cutest one that I have, and now it's ruined! Oh man...I have such poor luck. Speaking of poor luck, two days from now is Valentines', and I'm loveless. I'm such a loser. Oh well. I guess it'll be another year alone."
Before she could get a hold on the purse, a different hand picked it up for her. Kagome looked upwards, slightly startled, and her eyes met with a set of crimson ones. The man that had done it for her had long dark hair, slightly wavy, and the nicest eyes she had ever had the pleasure of looking into. Kagome gulped, and she felt her heart speed up as he smiled. He was smiling at her.
"Perchance, is this yours?" he asked her as he handed over the leather bag. Kagome felt a tiny blush spread over her face, and she nodded shakily. She pulled the stray hair away from her ears and averted her eyes from the source of the tension. The stranger remained cool, and he extended a hand to her. Kagome stared at it for a moment, blushed again, and took it as he helped her up from her seat. "If I may ask, what is your name?"
Kagome held a hand up to her neck, and asked, "Huh? M-me?! Um. . .Kagome. Kagome Higurashi. Why do you ask?" She felt stupid for her added comment, and she kicked herself mentally for saying such silly things. The man laughed, and she was stricken by his velveteen voice that rolled over her with such a sweet, calming nature, though it was deep. Kagome's hand dropped to her side, for she feared that too much fidgeting might annoy him.
He turned to her as they walked into the main lobby, and he gave another sweet smile. "I thought I had seen you before. Kagome...do you work in this building? For the magazine Scene ?"
"Yes. I am a journalist, the main columnist as well. I received the job in college, when I submitted a sample essay as an assignment. I was chosen for the position I am currentely in, and I've been working here for about 3 months. So, I'm pretty new. Do you work here too?" she asked him, her nerve finally relaxing now that they were in the building. The man smiled at her.
"I own the company, Miss Higurashi. So, you could say I work here..."
Kagome's skin tone drained of all color, and she stepped back to give a formal, deep bow. "My apoligies, sir!! I had no idea! I-I. . .forgive me!!" she stuttered, her face a very rosy tone now that she knew who she had been speaking with. This was the owner, Naraku Renkosuma, and also a very respected and intelligent gentleman, not to mention, very wealthy. Kagome felt dwarfed and almost frightened next to him. He was so handsome...and she had expected the owner to be some old balding man with a cauldron for a stomach; seeing him now made her somewhat ashamed, but also grateful that she had finally had the opportunity to come in contact with him. She gave another bow, and tried her best, although it was hard in a cashmere sweater and a miniskirt, to look graceful.
Naraku stopped her from another bow by placing both his hands firmly on her shoulders, and she paused, obviously scared, and looked up into his eyes, her own weakly glittering in the lobby's lighting. "Please, I don't demand worship, Miss Kagome. I would prefer if you called me by my given name, Naraku, and nothing else. You are a very kind person, Miss Higurashi, but you don't have to be entirely courteaous all the time. If it's anyone to be apoligizing, it's me. I did not properly introduce myself in the first place, which has only caused your embarassment." He gave a bow of apology, and then swooped up her hand in his own. "Now, if you will excuse me, I have a meeting to attend. Miss Higurashi, it was a pleasure to meet you. Perhaps we will chat again sometime...or maybe not. Our karma is ever changing." he said swiftly, before delivering a light kiss to her hand and departing to the elevator. Kagome stood in shock for several minutes, her hand still extended into the air where Naraku had kissed it. She had a furious blush on her face, and at the moment the only thing racing through her body besides her heartbeat were her thoughts.
"I can't believe it!!! The head of the corporation, the owner of it, he. . he. . he just kissed my hand!! Me, Kagome, the most unexciting person in the world! He kissed my hand!! This can't be real...it's a dream...maybe if I pinch myself, I'll wake up.."
Kagome absentmindedly pinched her left arm, but nothing happened. She blinked lazily up at the ceiling lights, her thoughts swimming like fish in the ocean currents, and smiled crazily. "It isn't a dream! Wow.." she whispered softly, a warm sensation spreading through her head like a heated towel out of the dryer. It overcame her completely, and then she blacked out, falling over onto the plush carpet, her smile still on her lips, as she let blackness take her to momentary rest, drowning out the sounds of the personnel at the lobby desk until it was nothing more than a mixture of garble, and then total silence.
How did you like the first chapter? I think it's pretty good. Yes, this fic is not a traditional Inuyasha where Naraku is evil, etc...I just wanted to make a real life story that could revolve around Kagome and her two loves to come. One has already been decided, Naraku, but the other???? I'll have to ponder the choices... Until then..Review!!! Or in the words of a great writer on this website, 'I will tear out your ribcage and wear as a hat!!!'
