Chapter 2: How it ended
Kagome awoke with a start. She'd relived that day almost every night for the past two months. She would wake up crying, hoping it was just a bad dream, but waking up alone in what used to be Keade's hut, she knew it was real. Everyone was gone, never to be seen again.
In the end, Sango and Miroku were the only others left besides her. They were all a bloody mess, but they were alive. Inu Yasha and Kikyo had survived, but not to stay in the realm f the living. They went to hell. Shippo was left at the village with Kaede, but when they got back, the village looked almost as bad as Sango's did. Some villagers remained, but not Kaede, or Shippo.
Kirara had died as well, but she died protecting Sango from Naraku's miasma. She gave her mask to Kohaku and would have died, had Kirara not been there. Sango was fine, but Kirara breathed in too much and they knew by the time the battle was over, that they would not reach Jinenji's on time.
Sango and Miroku had lived to forget what happened and have been relatively happy. The village was slowly reforming and everyday, all had a happy face. All except Kagome that is. No one had seen her smile since, not even a sad smile, she couldn't forget. How could she when she was constantly bombarded with the same dream every night. Although it was different aspects of the battle each time, she still saw death.
Kagura and Kanna went against Naraku in the end. Kagura's heart had almost been blown up, but Kagome saved it. They were not friends, but not enemies. Though her and Kagura still spoke, they were growing closer. Kanna became a real demon when Naraku died. She wasn't empty any more and she thanked everyone at every chance she got.
Kagome didn't want to think any more, so she decided to go for a walk. Grabbing her bow and arrows, she left the hut and walked into the forest.

Sesshomaru woke early that morning. He decided to set out before any one else in the castle awoke, so after he had placed on his armor, and swords, he walked out onto the balcony and flew off towards the village his brother resided in.
(AN: he knows that Naraku is dead but not what happened to everyone!)
When he reached the village, he found the taijiya and the monk sitting outside a hut. They looked at him and slowly got up and walked to him.
"What brings you here?" Sesshomaru-sama?" Miroku asked.
"I need to speak with Kagome." He said. Miroku looked like he was thinking for a moment, and pointed towards Kagome's hut. Sesshomaru nodded and walked inside the hut only to find it empty.
He knew by the smell of the hut that they weren't lying, but it held none of his brother's scent. Sesshomaru heard a gasp and turned to see Kagome standing in the doorway. He was amazed at her face. 'Usually the girl has too many emotions, now the only ones are hate and deceit.' He thought.
"Sit down." He said. Kagome thought about it and almost did until something hit her.
"Who are you to order me around in my own home?" she asked. Sesshomaru growled and went to grab her and teach her a lesson, but before he could reach her neck, a bright pink light emerged from her body, sending him against the other wall.
"Learned a few tricks I see. You should prove useful indeed." Sesshomaru said standing up. "But nothing gives you a right to talk to me that way, girl." He snapped. Sesshomaru became enraged when she merely sat down and began making tea, nut a hint of fright in her eyes.
"What is wrong with you? You have changed." He said.
"Well, you have to if you were in my position."
Sesshomaru let that comment go. His thoughts were elsewhere at the moment. "Why have I not seen or smelt my half brother, your kit, or the neko?" he asked. Suddenly curious when her eyes darkened at the change in subject.
"To start with, your brother's in hell." Sesshomaru was confused for a moment, but when he remembered Kikyo, it all clicked into place. Sesshomaru nodded for her to continue. "My kit is dead, along with Kaede. And Kirara was killed by Naraku's miasma." Sesshomaru glad his brother was dead, but he wanted to be the one to kill him, not a dead human.
"How can you be so calm about this? Most humans would be crying by now." He said, noting the way her voice and facial demeanor never wavered.
"I am not weak. I won't cry. Not again." She said. "I doubt you came here just to find out about your brother's welfare, along with that and my kit and the neko. So, what do you want?"
"I, along with the other lords and ladies am in need of your assistance. A powerful dragon youkai is stealing the souls of their men, and we fear that his intentions are as Naraku's were." He said.
"Only a powerful miko can sense this magic, and only a purification arrow can kill a dragon youkai." He said.
Kagome stood up. "Let's go, I have nothing else to live for. I died two months ago as far as I am concerned."
Sesshomaru was stunned. The young miko who had so much fire, is now standing before him with a look that could rival his own, saying that she was dead. 'What happened?' he wondered.
