Chapter 7: A way to get him
Sesshomaru told Kagome that they would most likely return to the northern castle the following morning and to be ready for an early day. Kagome nodded, and went off to find Rin.
Rin was in the garden playing when she saw Kagome. She ran to her, instantly trapping her in a death grip. Kagome wrapped her arms around Rin, not once losing her stoic façade. Rin looked up to Kagome with her big cinnamon orbs and smiled sweetly.
"Rin hasn't seen Kagome-neesan since forever! Rin missed you." The little girl cried, hugging her again, though this time not as forcefully.
"I missed you too Rin." Kagome said, prying the child off of her. Sitting down, she watched as Rin ran around her in circles with her arms spread out, stopping every few minutes to grab a flower or two.
'What did he mean?' she asked herself. 'Why would he say that? Does this mean that we're, together?' Kagome was utterly confused as to the meaning of Sesshomaru's earlier words. She had no idea what he meant, and was getting restless.
Sesshomaru watched Kagome as she watched Rin. By her scent, he could tell that she was confused about something. He faintly wondered if it were about their newly acquired relationship.
'Relationship,' he thought. 'What kind of relationship do we even have?' he distinctly remembered his instincts telling him to protect her, to heal her buried wounds that reopened each night during her sleep. And as he said before, he never went against his instincts, and he did want to stop Kagome's suffering.
She was a very admirable human, even now. Her strength, he could tell, had no limits. She was capable of more then she knew. Of course she had become aware of many new abilities during her time to herself, but there was much more her soul held.
He wondered why she had not used the shikon no tama to grant a wish. Rumor had it that 'The feared miko Kagome refused to make her life any more miserable by using the jewel for her own selfish happiness.'
That's what many said, and he found that another good trait about her, her unselfishness. Even if it was to keep from attaining more misery, she was still a selfless person no matter what.
He watched her, sitting there on the ground, her now usual expression present on her face. 'Why doesn't she smile?' She smiled to him before so why would she stop now? He sniffed again, this time the sorrow in her scent was overpowering. Sesshomaru stood and walked toward her. While she was in his presence, she would not feel sadness.
Sesshomaru's personality had become a bit less icier since he found himself normally spending more time with Rin, so he didn't care about someone seeing him caring for a human. He did care for her, but he had no idea how far that care went. Was it just care as a friend, or something more? He didn't care now, right now he had to see if Klagome was okay.
Kagome's sorrow was gone, filled with warmth when she felt Sesshomaru's arm go around her. She had no idea how he did it, she never calmed simply by someone's touch before. But she was glad all the same, she didn't want to be sad, she wanted a good life, but a good life was not in store for her it seemed.
Sesshomaru felt her change in aura and her scent told him that she had relaxed. For this he was glad and wondered if that was because of him.
"Don't think about it Kagome." He said, turning her face to look at him. Kagome blushed when she saw the softness of his eyes and her façade was gone, usually she could keep it quite well, but he mad it impossible for her to do that. Kagome smiled weakly and nodded, leaning into his hand that was now cupping her cheek.
Sesshomaru smirked and brought his other arm around to pull her to him. What possessed him to do so, he did not know, but he didn't care either, holding her felt so right that he just couldn't let her go.
Kagome's mind was racing, the thoughts of her comrades had been pushed to the furthest part of her mind which was now flooded with thoughts of Sesshomaru. It felt wonderful in his presence, even better in his arms, she admitted. She would never admit it, but she hoped that his words meant that they really were together. But she had to know for sure.
"Sesshou, what did you mean earlier?" she asked. He didn't know how to answer that question so he decided that he would find out what she wanted him to mean, so he shrugged.
"What did you want me to mean?" Kagome blushed, happy that he couldn't see her right now or she would have dies of humiliation. That would be another thing to add to the list of bad things that happened in her life. She would hate to have to do that!
Deciding she didn't know how to answer that question without embarrassing herself further, she shrugged and looked at him, her face inches from his.
"I asked you first and you can't question me and-...." but before she could finish, his lips captured her own. Her eyes slid closed after the shock passed, and leaning in to the kiss, she slid her arms around his neck as he tightened his grip on her.
Deciding that now would be a good time to leave, Rin skipped back to the castle smiling and humming softly to herself. 'Maybe Rin will get a new mother!' she thought happily, waving to Jaken, she set of for a light snack.
Their tongues waged in an intimate battle for dominance. Kagome was glad that she knew his answer, even if he didn't say it allowed, she knew what he meant. And Sesshomaru was glad she asked, it gave him a suitable reason to kiss her.
Gasping for air, they broke apart. Kagome was blushing madly and smiling sweetly at him as she breathed deeply to refill the air in her lungs. Sesshomaru smirked, standing up, he pulled her with him and walked to the castle holding her hand.
Walking into the palace, Kagome and Sesshomaru walked towards their chambers, deciding to get some rest. They both pretty much figured that tomorrow wouldn't be very pleasant for either of them,
considering they ran off telling no one where they went. Rin followed soon after, deciding that Sesshomaru told her she had a big day tomorrow, and she probably did.
Climbing into the comfort of the futon lying on the floor in her chamber, yawning, she fell asleep.
'KAGOME'S DREAM'
She saw him, surrounded by white orbs, floating around him. Aami. He sat in his chair, laughing ot himself. She couldn't make out the words hat escaped his lips, but she could tell that she would laugh occasionally. Listening closely, she heard a voice. It was calling out to her, but she couldn't grasp it. She just couldn't hear it clearly. Straining her ears, she heard it. It was telling her to drain the soul.
'What the hell does that mean?' Kagome thought. 'Drain the soul.' Then suddenly, Aami was enveloped in white. His soul was leaving his body. Another flah, he was lying ion the ground. He was weak, but he was still alive. A whiz of streaing light past her face resembling her purification arrow, shot into the youkai's heart. A bright flash of blue, and he was gone.
'END DREAM'
Kagome shot up. She knew how, she knew she did. But there was one problem. 'How do we get that many souls from him at once? That would be hard considering I can't kill him until he's weakened, but how to steal the soul away?' The souls were obviously from what he draws his powers. Kagome gasped as a realization hit her. 'Kaede said that a dragon youkai can build a power supply from sould filled with untapped power." She nearly screamed it. 'But how to get them away from them?' "Wait! I stole Kikyo's soul from her once, the first time she tried to steal Inuyasha away, but can I do that to Aami? How much power would it drain from me?" Kagome wondered allowed.
Sesshomaru burst throught the door. He'd heard her yell something, and was too worried to listen or to check her scent for anything akin to pain or anger, so he roused from his sleep and ran off towards Kagome's chambers to find her sitting up with a look of newfound knowledge on her face. Sesshomaru sighed his relief when he saw Kagome look up and smile at him. She was slowely, but surely returing to her normal self, and he was glad. Especially since he was the reason, at least he hoped he was. Either way, the through caused butterfies in his stomach. A feeling he was not and never will be used to he figured.
"What in the hell are you yelling about so early in the god damned, morning woman?" Sesshomaru asked, not as harshly as he would have liked it to come out. Kagome jumped up and threw her arms around his waist. Sesshomaru,
still half asleep, took a minute to return the gesture, but when he did, he nearly squeezed the life from her.
"I thought you were hurt." He said matter of factly. Kagome shook her head and looked up to kiss his jaw.
"I know how to kill him." Kagome said, smiling up a him. "Kill who?" was his reply. "Why Aami of course. I'll need to be able to steal his souls and then shoot him with my arrow. But It will take too much energy for me to steal his sould AND use my powers to kill him. You'll have to be able to keep him weak until my powers recover, but the problem is, I can't hold a barrier to keep him from regaining the lost souls, and rebuild my powers." she explained
Sesshomaru nodded. 'So she found a way to kill the him. But she needs her powers to perfect this strategy.' He sighed. 'If it drains her powers, it could kill her, and I will not allow her to die in such a way.' he decided. Sighing once again, he backed away to look her in the eye. Kagome could sense the worry in his aura and sighed herself. If this is what needed to be done to destroy him, then this is what she would do. Nothing and no one would stop her.
"Sesshou-kun." she started. "I have to do this. I'll be fine, I just have to build up my powers some more. Don't worry about me, just prepare for a harsh battle. Sesshomaru laid down with her in his arms. Thinking of anything that could help to keep Kagome alive after this battle. If her powers are drained, her life energy will be drawn from her soul,
causing her to be dramatically, spiritually weakened after this whole ordeal. She may become more distant then before if her spirits were lessened again.
Jaken ran throughout the castle halls looking for his master. Sesshomaru was not found in his study, his chambers,
Rin's chambers, or anywhere else he could think to look. Running past a door, he stiffened. Taking in the scent of his lord and the miko, and the slight sound of their snores.
Hesitantly, he opened the door to find them wrapped in eachother's embrace. Jaken sighed, he liked Kagome, he respected her a lot, which is a lot more then he could say for any other human, but this was unexpected. He cautiously walked up towards the sleeping couple and noticed Kagome's eye crack open. He prepared for the icy remarks and was very surprised to find that she had been kind to him.
"Good morning Jaken-san, do you want me to wake him?" Jaken gawked at her, but nodded and watched in wonder as she whispered his name into his ear. Sesshomaru's eyes fluttered open, seeing Jaken staring at him. He shook the sleepiness from himself right away and nodded for the toad to state his business.
Jaken cleared his throat and began. " Milord there is a kitsune messenger sent from the northern lord demanding your return to his castle at once." Sesshomaru smirked. 'I've been wondering why it was taking so long.' Sitting up he told Jaken to wake Rin as he left for his own chambers, informing Kagome to get ready herself.
Kagome dressed in a simple kimono, it was a shade of light yellow accentuated by pink sakura and a yellow obie.
Rin's was exactly the opposite, saying she wanted to look just like Kagome, who in turn smiled. Upon seeing her facade change into that of happiness, Rin ran to Kagome, capturing her in a death grip, wondering why she didn't look like she usually did. Rin was glad now that her neesan wasn't upset and hoped that her lord had something to do with it.
Sesshomaru told Kagome that they would most likely return to the northern castle the following morning and to be ready for an early day. Kagome nodded, and went off to find Rin.
