Yeah, yeah, I left you with a cliffie last time and I told you I’d have the next chapter up soon, so not to worry. And here it is, I’m true to me word. The last chapter Hikari’s soon to be mate was introduced, Koyna. And the final battle had just begun.

Once again, I’d like to give credits for Koyna AND Naru (who will be appearing in this chapter) to yokikatanakurama. Thanks again.

Now. I’m sure no one wants me to go on with my incessant rambling, so onto the story…

Last Chapter:
………….Everyone raced outside, all were prepared to fight with their lives to protect the ones they loved and cared for.

Chapter 12: The Final Battle With Aami

Kagome stood next to Sesshomaru. Yamamato and Mizuko stood protectively in front of Yuki and Sakuya, who were also prepared to fight. In the back, facing opposite of the others, were Hikari and Koyna, who stood side-by-side.

Dark clouds gathered overhead of the castle, all swirling together like a tornado. Hordes of youkais swarmed down from the sky, each roaring loudly and gathering their energy to attack seemingly all at once.

Each of them glowed a golden hue before the energy burst from their bodies, and came crashing down towards the youkais below. Everyone seemed to be looking for a way to evade the attack before a pink bubble surrounded them. They all looked wide eyed to Kagome before turning back to their positions.

Kagome had thrown up a barrier, then let the energy go, spreading outward and disintegrating every youkai it came into contact with. Blood sprayed everywhere as white orbs of light shot outward of the hopeless youkais and gathered into a circle in the sky before disappearing.

All of a sudden, another wave of youkai came out of nowhere, charging at the group, this time on foot. From three different directions, youkai of all kind ran with a variety of weapons, all ready to kill those who threatened their lord, Aami.

Everyone charged their own separate ways. Sesshomaru formed his youki whip and ran forward, ready to strike down each and every youkai that got in his way. Yamamato ran towards the left, a white light formed in his hand, leaving an ice pole in it’s wake. He swung it wildly, staining it with blood with the more youkai he struck down.

Mizuko drew his sword, swinging it at the approaching youkai, striking them with a grace and agility only possessed by the most skilled warriors. Hikari’s own hands glowed bright gold as he raced towards the right. He struck down youkai with his bare hands, the burning flame surrounding his hands burned through their bodies, becoming covered with blood in the process. Occasionally, he would send balls of fire at unsuspecting youkai, catching them off guard.

Yuki ran after Mizuko, drawing her small blades and throwing them towards the youkai, watching as they struck their targets and returned to her, covered in the blood of those they killed. Sakuya ran after Yamamato, pulling her fan from her obi. She approached the youkai quickly, slicing them as she came within arms length. Blood sprayed from those who fell in their feeble attempt to raid the castle of the northern lands.

Koyna grabbed her katana and raced after Hikari. She reached him and stood behind him, facing the opposite direction as he was. She fended off the youkai with her katana, occasionally throwing her steel fans at those that may have had an advantage if they came any closer, and using telepathy to call them back to her. Her hands and face were covered in blood as she tried to slice off the youkai’s heads, so they’d die in one strike.

Kagome stood her ground, she was the only one standing where she was, no youkai made it past the others, so none of them would reach her where she stood. She used this to her advantage, drawing her bow and arrows to spread her powers all around her. The youkai that they were currently fighting were only the opening act. The greater power came from overhead. Obviously, Aami was planning on waiting until they were weakened or tired before going into battle himself.

The soul of every youkai killed went to the exact location of Aami, his power growing and growing by the second. Although she could not see him, she knew he was there. She remembered his aura, and would not forget it.

She looked around her, everyone was covered in blood, none of it there own, these youkai were not meant to hurt them, just to tire them out so Aami could have the greater advantage despite being outnumbered. She sighed, there was no way she could relay this to the others, but maybe she could get Aami to show himself sooner then he had planned.

She drew an arrow and notched it into her bow, aiming straight to the middle of the source of power towering above her. She closed her eyed, concentrating on the power itself, and letting her own energy flow into the arrow.

She let it go, the arrow was unseen by the pure aura surrounding it. She listened closely, intent on hearing Aami, yell out in either pain or anger. She heard a loud growl, it echoed through her ears. Suddenly, all of the youkai around everyone vanished, their souls floating to the sky above Kagome.

Everyone turned to face her, bloody and battered from killing off so many youkai. The sky above her glowed, and everyone ran back to her side. Sesshomaru drew Toukijin as the other males drew their own swords, the seriousness of this battle was about to begin.

A deep chuckle filled the air, and everyone shielded their eyes from the near blinding lied that died almost instantly, leaving Aami, the dragon lord in its wake. He smirked at the group, two swords forming in his hands. He slowly descended to the ground, and stood there for a moment, his eyes scanning over everyone before lying solely on Kagome. He growled at her, watching as Sesshomaru stood in front of her and sent him a death glare.

Suddenly, a youkai appeared out of thin air, in front of Koyna, who was caught off guard. The youkai smirked evilly and went to sink its claws into her chest when something swiped at him from behind. He disappeared, letting the last soul drift into Aami’s body, completing him.

Koyna smiled when she saw her loyal neko youkai, Naru. The cat had silver and black fur, accentuated by the silver/red flames adorning her as well. His three tails swished happily as he rubbed his head against his mistress’s leg.

Aami scowled at the cat and looked back at Sesshomaru before smirking at his protectiveness of Kagome. He was extremely angered, anger dominated hi scent as well as his features.

Aami blinked, then looked to his swords, watching as the souls of the dead surrounded them before merging with them, adding the strength of their former lives to the weapons. He suddenly disappeared, reappearing right in front of Yamamato who barely had enough time to evade the attack.

The battle was on.

Sesshomaru and Mizuko each charged at him from opposite directions. Sesshomaru’s toukijin sending bolts of powerful electricity at the youkai while Mizuko slahed at him. They both became angered as he evaded each and every assault.

Koyna threw both of her fans, one of them missed, but the other impaled into the middle of his back. She smirked as he lost his concentration and one of Kagome’s arrows shot into his side. Aami growled, blood gushed from his back as he pulled the weapon from his back and ascended into the air. He glowed for a moment before he floated back down, free of blood and wounds. Everyone growled this time, attacking him with a new fury.

Sesshomaru tried to feign an attack left, leaving his right side open and Aami forces his claws into him, ducking under Sakuya’s sword so it sliced into Mizuko. He smirked and threw Sesshomaru to the ground. He ran towards Kagome, who shot an arrow directly at him as he became close enough so he couldn’t dodge. His eyes widened as the searing pain burned through his body.

Blood ran freely from the whole trough his gut and trickled form the side of his mouth. He jumped over Kagome who had surrounded herself in a barrier and ran towards Hikari. Hikari saw him coming, but was too late to react as he felt the sword pierce theough his chest. The souls inside the sword tried to suck his sould away. He could feel the tug and almost fell unconscious before he saw Hikari’s eyes widen and he was replaced by Koyna.

Koyna was pissed. The sun on her for head shone crimson just as her eyes did. He gulped, he didn’t want to be anywhere near that girl when she was angry. He quickly thanked her with a kiss to her lips before returning to the battle. He saw Sesshomaru force his sword into Aami’s arm as Yamamato’s pole sunk into his knee. Aami fell on one knee as his other leg gave out.

Blood poured from his body. He could barely hold his arm up as Sesshomaru slammed his sword into it again. All of a sudden, his body began to glow pink. Everyone took a step away and then looked over to see Kagome with her eyes closed, concentrating on defeating Aami.

His body was tugged upward. White lights tried desperately to escape his body. He tried to hold the souls in, howling in pain as they were ripped from his body. The sould were torn from him, departing from his body hundreds at a time. He screamed out his agony once the light dissipated, leaving him weakened and extremely tired.

He stood in his place, a white barrier surrounding him. Everyone knew that they wouldn’t be able to break the barrier, which is why Kagome was needed for the task with her purification arrows.

All eyes were on her as she stumbled, trying to regain her composure. Sesshomaru was by her side in seconds, holding her waist as she aimed steadily at Aami. She concentrated the rest of her powers into the arrow and let it fly.

The arrow streaked across the distance, hitting the barrier, but not breaking it completely. She was scared that this would happen, her energy was drained from taking away his soul.

All of a sudden, a loud growl came from Koyna. She glowed a light purple before running to Kagome’s side. She notched an arrow into Kagome’s bow, and aimed straight for Aami.

She closed her eyes, concentrating hard on Aami’s youkai aura. She let the arrow fly, breaking through the barrier and piercing Aami’s heart. He let out a cry of rage as he fell lifeless ly to the ground. His body turned to ash and flew away with the wind.

No one could believe what they had seen. Koyna’s anger had unlocked the miko blocked passed down to her from her mother. Kagome gasped. That’s why she felt tired in her dream and saw a light whiz past her. Koyna was meant to destroy him completely after she weakened him. She smiled before her wyws slid shut and she passed out into Sesshomaru’s arms.

Hikari wrapped his arm around Koyna, his other hand dragging his sword along as he walked back to the castle. Yamamato watched as Yuki slid to the ground and closed her eyes, taking in a deep breath of air. Sakuya did the same, lying down next to her friend.

“It’s finally over.” Yamamato said. Mizuko nodded deftly as he checked his mate’s wounds. The two men lifted their mates into their arms and went to catch up with Sesshomaru. They would take the women into one of the rooms, most likely kagome’s since she was now permanently sleeping with Sesshomaru, and call in a healer. Then, they would check over their own wounds and get some rest.

Yuki and Sakuya awoke within the hour, each having several miner wounds that would heal by the morning with their youkai blood. Kagome, on the other hand, was extremely fatigued and would take another day or two just for her to awaken. Sesshomaru had brought her into his own room once she was cleaned and he’d kept her in his arms since, intent on staying with her until she awoke.

Koyna and Hikari were asleep in Hikari’s room. Neither cared about having their wounds checked, just cleaned away the blood and grime, then crashed in his bed, lying in each other’s arms.

Everyone was glad that Aami was defeated, they were just upset that the souls didn’t return to their soldiers. Mizuko had decided to hire new ones. He always liked seeing new recruits perform their daily duties, it was hilarious considering they had no idea what to do and were always self-conscious about their work.

The lords and ladies all decided that rest was a good idea and each went to bed, all anticipating the moment Kagome would awaken.
