Recap: “Any last words, Taka?” Kagome asked while pulling the bowstring taunt.

 

Taka's glare turned to a grin. “Yeah, DIE!!!” she yelled as she raised her hand and shot a glowing red orb, about 2 ft in diameter, at the girls.

 

“LOOK OUT!!!” The guys yelled.

 

The girl's eyes went wide as the orb flew at them. They threw up their arms only to watch the orb crash into the ground in front of them making a large crack travel around them to the edge of the cliff. Suddenly they felt the ground shift underneath them as gravity took over and pulled them over the edge of the cliff. Kagome grabbed Shippou into her arms as she and her two best friends fell from the cliff, screaming.

 

“KAGOME, RIN, SHIPPOU, SANGO!!!” Inuyasha, Sesshoumaru and Miroku yelled as they ran to the edge of the cliff. They looked over hopping to see them safe and sound hanging from a branch only to watch them crash into the rushing water below. They stared for a few moments longer to see if they came up but they didn't.

“Umm…Did you Find Shippou and the girls?” Sesshoumaru asked to change the subject.

 

Miroku's angry expression changed to a glum one. “No, Kirrara tried to find their scents but the water had washed them away.” He sighed then pulled Sango's Hiraikotsu, Rin's poison blades and Kagome's bow and a broken arrow form Kirara's back. “I only found these washed up on the shore.”

Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru stared at the weapons as they felt fear enter their hearts as they finally realized the severity of the situation, and it wasn't good. If they were alive they wouldn't be able to defend themselves against animals, wild demons or Naraku and his minions. They were virtually helpless!!!

Where am I?

 

And then it hit her.

 

Taka!! The cliff!! My friends!! Shippou!!

 

Kagome's eye shot open as she looked around her. It was dark out, so dark that she could barely see a foot in front of her. How long had she been out?! Where was she? She wasn't lying on grass, just hard rock and she didn't see any trees. She knew had to find her friends and her little brother before she figured out anything.

Kagome sat up but a rush of dizziness hit her making her fall back again. She put the palms of her hands to her temple, her head hurt so much. Her whole body hurt, most of all her back but it had gone down to numb throb from the cold, due to her clothes being soaked from being in the river.

Suddenly she heard a whimper from be side her making her forget about her pain. She sat up slowly and looked to find Shippou snuggled up beside her. He was out cold.

 

She put her and to his cheek softly. “Shippou baby, wake up.” She said soothingly. All he did was whimper slightly and cling to her harder but she had to wake him, she new that the cold sleep could be deadly and she couldn't let him go into a coma.

 

“Come on sweetie, wake up. You need to wake up!!” She said louder while shaking him.

 

His eyes fluttered open wide. “KAGOME!!!” He cried before jumping into her arms to then cried into her shoulder.

 

“Shh, it's ok baby. Calm down, your safe now.” She said softly while rubbing his back soothingly.

 

He looked up at her with teary eyes. “I had a nightmare!! Naraku had killed the other and taken you from us!! I ran after him but when I found you, you were…y-you were… DEAD!!!” He cried as he flung himself at her again as he clung to her as if at any moment she could be pulled from him.

 

Kagome held him to her tightly. “Oh Shippou. Shh, it's ok. I'm here now. He didn't get me. We're safe now.” She mumbled to him till her calmed to whimpering softly.

Shippou sighed softly and pushed himself from her arms.

 

“Umm… Kagome? Were are we?” He asked while looking around him.

Kagome looked around her; they were surrounded by jagged walls of stone. Behind them was a pool of bubbling water but it wasn't from heat, it was from the strong current flowing in from underneath.

Realization suddenly hit Kagome. “We're in a cave!!” She gasped.

 

“But how? We fell from a cliff into a river, not a cave.” Shippou asked.

 

“We must have been pulled into some underwater cave.” Kagome answered.

 

Shippou looked around him and noticed there was no way out, they were completely surrounded by stone.

 

“Great!! How are we going to get out?” He said in frustration.

 

Kagome looked around her and came to the same conclusion, they were trapped. The only way they could possibly get out was through the water, but the current looked strong and there was no telling how far it was to the other side.

 

Kagome sighed. “Shippou, I want you to stay here, I'm going to swim through the water to try and find a way out.”

 

“NO!! No way!! I'm going with you!!” He said as her glared at her. There was NO way he would let her go alone.

 

“But Shippou…”

 

“NO!!! I'm coming with you!!” He demanded.

 

Kagome sighed in defeat. “Fine, but I want you to get onto my back and hold onto me as tight as you can.”

 

Shippou nodded and jumped onto her back, wrapping his arm firmly around her waist. Kagome then waded into the water and looked down into the gapping dark hole at the bottom of the pool.

 

“Take a deep breath in...3…2...1!!” She said before taking a deep breath and she plunged them into the water.

The current was very strong and she was having a hard time maneuvering them past the sharp rocks around them. It was a wonder that they had made it threw there in the first place!!

Kagome swam as fast as she could but it was taking to long to find a way out. She could feel her lungs burning and Shippou's hold on her loosening. She knew she had to find a way out of there, and fast!!

Kagome pushed them further as fast she could until at last they saw a light at the end of the tunnel and with on last hard push, they burst out of the water gasping for air.

 

“Thank…god!!” Shippou said after he finally caught his breath. Kagome smiled and waded out of the river and pulled them onto the bank.

 

“OK, now all we have to do is find Sango and Rin and get back up to the guys.” Kagome sighed.

 

Shippou stood up and helped Kagome to her feet. “Come on!! There's no time to lose!!!” He exclaimed before they entered the forest in search of their friends.

Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru ran threw the forest searching for the girls, while Miroku followed behind them on Kirara. So far they hadn't even caught a single trace scent of their precious friends and that was seriously starting to worry them. Either they had gone in the wrong direction or the girls' bodies were… at the bottom of the river but they didn't want to think that!! If they were dead… then they had nothing left to live for.

Suddenly Inuyasha, Sesshoumaru and Kirrara all stopped in their tracks and looked back the way they had come with wide eyes.

 

“What?! What is it?” Miroku asked thinking the worst.

 

Inuyasha was the one to answer. “Blood…

Miroku gasped what if Sango was… `No, I won't think of such things, it just can't be true!!' He thought but Inuyasha started again, bring him out of his thoughts.

 

“...But theirs no trace of Kagome and Shippou...” He said gravely then he looked at them with barely suppressed fear. “You don't think they're…?”

 

“NO!!” They turned and stared at Miroku in shock at his outburst.

 

“Inuyasha, they girls are strong… they're fine… you'll see” Miroku said more for himself. He had a bad feeling and it was grating on his nerves. If the girls were ok, he had the worst feeling they wouldn't be for long.

 

“Ok? um, anyway… lets follow Rin and Sango's scent..” Sesshoumaru said before he turned and ran after said scents. Inuyasha looked over at Miroku and shook his shoulders and ran after him…Miroku just followed behind, deep in thought.

Sango and Rin were walking threw the forest tiredly. Rin had a slight limp, she had a long cut down her leg and it hurt her with every step she took and they had been walking for 3 hours straight now.

When they had woken up on the bank of the river to find no Shippou or Kagome, they knew that they had to find them. It would be getting dark soon and with none of them having any weapons, they knew that it would be safer if they were in a group.

 

“Where could they be?” Rin yawned.

 

Sango looked at her sympathetically. “Do you want to rest for a second?” She asked. Sango wasn't exactly in the best shape either, like Rin's hurt leg, she had a long gash that traveled from her breastbone to her shoulder blade and it made moving very painful for her as well.

 

“Yes please!” Rin said enthusiastically making Sango giggle.

 

They walked up to a tree for the shade and sat down bellow it as they sighed in relief. Their body's ached so badly. They had numerous cuts all alone their bodies from their little `dip' in the river and that only added to the discomfort of their aching feet.

 

“Well, well, well. What have we here? What are you two doing out in the middle of nowhere and so alone too?” Someone taunted.

 

Sango and Rin gasped and looked beside them to find a smiling Kikyou right in their faces but she wasn't alone, beside her was a rather large and muscular man. He had short flaming red hair and blue eyes. If he was a youkai, they could not tell. He looked completely human but something about him made flags go up in their heads but he just stood there like a soldier.

Sango and Rin started to get up, but before they could, Kikyou lifted her hands and tapped them on their foreheads making their bodies freeze.

 

“So, where are your little friends?” She asked. They glared at her but were rather surprised when their mouths opened to answer her question.

 

“We were separated by a woman named Taka. We don't know where any of them are or weather they are even alive.” Rin said.

 

Kikyou smiled knowingly. “Oh, they're alive alright. Kagome and Shippou aren't to far away, as a mater of fact, but Miroku, Inuyasha, and Sesshoumaru are pretty far away. Which is perfect for me.”

 

“What are you talking about?” Sango asked.

 

“You shall see.” Kikyou said as she started to chant a spell.

“Somebody!! Help us!!” Kagome and Shippou heard two familiar voices call.

 

“Oh My god!! That's Sango and Rin!! They're in trouble!!!” Kagome cried as she picked up Shippou and ran towards their voices.

 

“Somebody please help us!!” They called again.

 

“I'm coming you guys, I'm coming!!” Kagome yelled back to them just before she burst threw the trees to see them sitting at the bottom of a tree, perfectly unharmed.

 

“Sango? Rin? Are you ok?” She asked, slightly confused. They said nothing and just sat

There as if frozen. Shippou hopped out of her arms and walked up to them but when he reached them he was thrown back abruptly by a force field, knocking him out.

 

“Shippou!!” Kagome cried and run towards him but before she could reach him, Kikyou and a strange man walked out from behind a tree. Kikyou picked him up and she placed a dagger to his throat.

 

“Kikyou put him down!!” Kagome demanded.

 

She just laughed at her and placed him next to Sango and Rin. Then she turned back to Kagome and aimed her bow and arrow at her. The man never moved but Kagome was getting a bad feeling from him.

 

“So Kagome, how does it feel to be all alone? To not have anyone to protect you?” Kikyou asked with an evil grin.

 

Kagome glared at her. “I'm not worried about myself at the moment.”

 

“Oh, but you should be Kagome. You stole my love from me and in return I will kill you and then your pitiful friends.” Kikyou said as she pulled her bowstring taunt.

 

“I didn't steal anyone!!! Naraku wanted me, but I didn't want him!! ” Kagome yelled.

 

“You're lying!! Why would Naraku want you, a pale copy of me!!!?”

 

“I'm not lying Kikyou, I swear!!”

 

“It's too late; your fate has been sealed.” Kikyou sneered just as she let go of the bowstring making the arrow fly at her but Kagome quickly threw up a barrier.

 

Kikyou took aim again with a new arrow. “Pull down your barrier.” She demanded.

 

“No”

 

“Pull it down or I'll kill your friends!!” Kikyou said not moving.

 

“How? You're not even close to them?” Kagome asked.

 

“I don't have to be, see.”

 

“Kagome Help!!” Sango's voice cried.

 

“Please help us, Kagome!!” Rin cried as well but they had no emotion on their faces, the only thing that moved was their mouths.

 

Kagome looked at them than at Kikyou. “I don't understand.”

 

“Their bodies are under my control. All I have to do is think it and their hearts will stop.” Kikyou sneered.

 

“NO!! Please Kikyou, don't do it!!” Kagome cried.

 

“Then pull down your barrier.” Kikyou said. Kagome sighed in defeat and did as she said.

 

“Good girl” Kikyou said as the strange man walked up to Kagome. Kagome started to back away.

 

“I wouldn't do that if I were you” Kikyou warned as Kagome heard her friends cry out in pain.

 

“NO! PLEASE STOP IT!!!” Kagome cried but he friend's cries didn't stop. “Please, I'll do whatever you want, just don't hurt them.”

 

“Sotaru attack!!”

 

Suddenly her friends went silent as Kikyou stopped her attack but she didn't have time to be thankful because something hard went across her face making her fall to the ground in shock. Kagome held her slowly bruising face and looked up at her attacker.

The man, know known as Sotaru, stood over her with an evil grin on his face making her eyes widen in fear as she started to push her self backwards but what

Kikyou said next made her freeze.

 

“Stay still you little slut!! Or I'll kill your friends for sure this time!!”

 

“No!! Kikyou please don't, just leave them alone, they had nothing to do with this!!!” Kagome cried in slight panic.

 

“Yes, but I want you dead and that won't be easy for me if you fight back!!” Kikyou grinned.

 

“We'll then why don't you just kill me and get on with it!!??”

 

“Oh I want you dead, alright. But I want to torture you first.” Kikyou cackled as Sotaru picked Kagome up by her throat.

 

“Sotaru do what ever you'd like to her as long as you kill her when you're finished.” Kikyou said making Sotaru's grin widen.

 

“As you wish, Lady Kikyou.”

 

Sango and Rin sat at the tree watching everything. Although they couldn't move they could see and hear everything that was transpiring and it was breaking their hearts. Tears started down their cheeks as they watched Sotaru beat Kagome to a bloody pulp as she screamed in pain, all the while they were screaming in their heads for him to stop but it was no use as long as they were under Kikyou's spell.

But why? WHY?! Why was this always happening to Kagome? It was like the gods themselves wanted her to suffer, but why? She had done nothing wrong. All she ever did was take care of them, she had never hurt anyone and yet everyone seemed to be after her.

 

`Somebody please help her!! Somebody stop him!!' Sango and Rin screamed in there minds as Kagome's blood splattered everywhere. `Fight back Kagome!! FIGHT BACK!! Don't worry about us!!!' but she couldn't hear them and even if she did, they were sure she wouldn't risk their life, even if it meant sacrificing her own.

But Kagome didn't deserve this!! She didn't deserve the burden of protecting the Shikon no tama, she didn't deserve to be tortured by Naraku for 4 years, she didn't deserve being raped by him, she didn't deserve the pain he had caused her, but most of all she didn't deserve to be blamed for his crimes.

Suddenly everything grew silent making Sango and Rin start to panic. They looked over to see if Kagome was ok but couldn't see past Sotaru. He just stood with his back towards them, blood was dripping from his fingers as he panted heavily but what he said next would etch its self in their minds forever.

 

“Aww, my toy broke.” He said in mock sorrow as Kikyou cackled behind him.
