Running Away

Chapter One: The Alliance

By: Sesshomaru Sweetie

::::: A Week After Sesshomaru and Inuyasha's Alliance :::::

Sesshomaru watched with mild interest as the miko prepared lunch. 'Ramen was it?' He cared not. He wouldn't eat it. He prepared his own meals, and the last thing he would do is eat something prepared by a stupid human wench.

"Would you hurry up, Kagome?!" Inuyasha spat out.

"Be patient, Inuyasha." Kagome said, rolling her eyes.

It had only been a week since Sesshomaru, Rin and Jaken had joined Inuyasha and his entourage in their journey. Sesshomaru still despised the humans, and his half brother but it was necessary that they fought together.

The Tetsaiga and the Tokijin proved to be worthy companions, and they would surely bring an end to the despicable half breed, Naraku. Sesshomaru for once agreed with his brother. It would be best if they killed Naraku before killing each other.

It was hard to cope with the baka, but Sesshomaru was getting used to it. The miko that they traveled with was most annoying. Sesshomaru didn't understand why she was there. Her cheerful laugh sent him up a wall every time he heard it, but she made Rin happy, so he would spare her life… for now.

The monk was annoyingly perverse. Every once in awhile his hand would travel south on the taijiya, and he would be rewarded with a forceful slap.

The taijiya was strong, but weak. She cried often in the night. Sesshomaru didn't sleep. He wouldn't sleep. The old hut was most uncomfortable, and he was always on guard. He watched Inuyasha sneak out of the hut, thinking that nobody was onto him.

The disturbing smell of death, and decease on Inuyasha when he came back from his nightly strolls told Sesshomaru that he had been visiting with that undead bitch.

Sesshomaru snorted. 'I wonder how the girl named Kagome would feel if she knew Inuyasha was visiting with that undead wench…' For some reason Sesshomaru didn't find humor in that, like he though he would. The girl Kagome actually reminded him somewhat of Rin. He didn't wish to see her bright smile completely vanish.

Not to mention, Rin had already taken a liking to the wench. She followed Kagome around everywhere. Looked up to her like an older sister. Sesshomaru let out an annoyed sigh. At least Kagome avoided him. At least she didn't try to speak to him. Until then, he could accept her presence.

"Are you hungry, Sesshomaru-sama?" Kagome's shaky voice snapped him out of his thoughts and he gazed upon the miko who held out a small bowl of steaming noodles to him.

"I don't eat human food." he stated, quickly turning away.

He saw her face turn slightly pink out of the corner of his eye.

"I'm sorry." she practically whispered, walking away with the bowl.

"Lord Sesshomaru-sama!" Rin squealed happily, as she slurped stray noodles into her mouth. "These noodles are good. *slurp* Kagome-chan is a good cook! *slurp* Even Jaken likes it."

Sesshomaru's eyes fell onto the green imp with disgust as Jaken hungrily chewed at the 'Ramen'. "Indeed, he does." Sesshomaru said, a hint of mockery in his tone.

"You haven't eaten, Sesshomaru-Sama." Kagome squeaked, "Are you sure? Do you want anything else? I have a lot of things in here…" Kagome reached for her large yellow backpack, but Sesshomaru stopped her with his cold voice.

"I will not eat anything prepared by you, Wench. Did I not say that I don't eat human food?"

Kagome's face turned completely red, and her hand dropped to her lap. "I… I'm sorry." She whispered again. Inuyasha looked from Kagome to Sesshomaru. "Don't bother with that jerk, Kagome." Inuyasha spat out, "Just eat your food, and forget about Sesshomaru."

That comment earned Inuyasha an angry glare from Sesshomaru which Inuyasha returned.

"That's okay." Kagome said, softly, "I'm not hungry. I think I'm going to go for a walk." Kagome got up, and hurled her bag over her shoulder. She quickly made her way to the doorway, but first stopped to glance at Sesshomaru, before rushing out the door.

"Way to go, Asshole!" Inuyasha snapped. Sesshomaru just snickered in response.

"Kagome is very sensitive, Sesshomaru-sama." Sango stated, coolly, "I understand you don't like her, but all I ask is that you be considerate to her feelings. If not for us, then for yourself. She is very important in this battle. We need her to detect the jewel."

"Not to mention, her miko powers will be useful against Naraku." Miroku added.

"I see no reason to encourage her weakness." Sesshomaru stated, monotonously. Sango and Miroku exchanged annoyed glances. "And don't dare try to reason with this Sesshomaru." he added, just as stoically.

"Rin likes Kagome-chan, Sesshomaru-sama." Rin said softly, placing down her empty bowl, "Please be nice to her."

Sesshomaru let out an inaudible sigh, then nodded in agreement.

'Why can't I simply say 'no' to that child?' Sesshomaru wondered.

…………………&helli p;…

Kagome stomped angrily through the forest. She hated Sesshomaru! She hated him with a passion. She felt her fists curl into tight little balls at her side, then they loosened. "No. I don't hate him." she sighed. 'But why does he hate me so much? I was only being nice…'

Kagome didn't quite understand what had come over her at the hut. Sesshomaru's cold words had almost made her cry. Whenever she felt his hardened gaze on her, whenever she saw that look of disgust on his face directed towards her… she felt so helpless. So weak in his eyes.

It had come to the point where she couldn't even be herself around the group. That's what infuriated her the most.

'Why do I have to watch what I say, and what I do for the means of that human hating jerk!' She wondered. Kagome brushed by a couple of tree branches in her way, and found herself entering a small clearing.

'Strange… this place is unfamiliar…" Kagome thought, looking up. She immediately let out a gasp. It was beautiful. Everything about this place…

All anger and frustrations forgotten, Kagome let a toothy smile splendor her face.

"Perhaps this place can be mine. This can be my escape."

::::: A Month After Sesshomaru and Inuyasha's Alliance :::::

Bliss wasn't even the word to describe Kagome's newfound glory. She now realized why it was that Inuyasha sat up in that damned tree so much. As she sat up in a large tree, Kagome let her slender legs dangle from the thick branch that supported her weight.

It had been a month since Inuyasha and Sesshomaru formed an alliance. Ever since Kagome had been completely uncomfortable. Sesshomaru was unusually quiet around her. It made her so awkward.

Kagome usually came to this beautiful place to escape it all. To escape the tension… This place was her discovery, and what a discovery it was!

She looked down onto peaceful scenery before her. Healthy green leaves dangling from the branch atop the tree she was perched in shaded her, blocking the sun from her mystical blue eyes.

The deep blue shade of her eyes matched the color of the small lake in the distance. On such a hot summer day the sun glistened down on the small body of water causing the lake to sparkle somewhat. The soft grass that surrounded the pond was a light shade of green, with white and blue flowers scattered here and there.

Kagome was in awe at the beautiful sight.

She released all the energy that assembled within her in a loud sigh. The sweet bell like sound of her contentment rang through the humid air breaking the silence of the warm summer morning.

'I will come here more often.' Kagome decided, a small smile gracing her lips.

Her sudden happiness left as quickly as it came when she realized she had to go back to Inuyasha and the others. She let out a small groan at the realization. A part of her pleaded to stay there just for another moment, but the sounds of an angry hanyou in the distance quickly dismissed the idea.

Kagome slid off the branch with ease and the small distance between the branch and the ground caused her to fall to her knees. She laughed at her own clumsiness, and got up to dust herself off.

Kagome picked up her yellow back, and flung it over her shoulder. She decided to take one last look at the peaceful lake up close before heading back. She slowly approached the lake pushing back the tall grass that contained the water's calm beauty.

Kagome stared at the lake in awe. The sparkling effect the sun had on the lake was even more enchanting up close. Kagome squinted in the far distance trying to penetrate the heavy sunlight with her piercing eyes.

She noticed in the distance a small, rocky mountain that stretched into a large overhang where one could stand and practically float over the pond like a king over his empire. Temptation flooded the miko's heart and she desperately wanted to venture up to that peak.

The annoyed bickering of a hanyou nearby quickly pulled her into reality, and Kagome let out a small sigh. "I will definitely come back." she said softly, but confidently. It was as if she had made a promise to the landscape around her. This place was a now a good friend of hers.

"I'm coming, Inuyasha!" she called out, running in the direction of the hanyou's voice.

……………………& hellip;

Kagome left the small clearing, and rushed through the woods headed towards Kaede's hut where she left the small group.

She made her way towards Inuyasha, voicing her apologies.

"What the hell takes you so long?" Inuyasha asked out loud. Kagome blushed. She wanted to tell Inuyasha about 'her kingdom', but then it wouldn't be a secret. For some reason she felt like she would be betraying a friend if she spoke of her special place.

"Nothing, Inuyasha. Gomen Nesai." Kagome responded quickly, "Find any jewel shards while I was away?"

Inuyasha 'feh'd'. "How could we while you were gone for hours?" It wasn't an exaggeration, either. Kagome spent the whole afternoon in her resting spot. She just loved the wonderful sensation she got from being there. She just loved feeling at peace.

Sesshomaru glared at the smiling miko who had just returned from a long walk. 'Where does that wench go?' he wondered. He had noticed her leaving very often as of late. It made the place a lot more peaceful without her, at least.

Though things were somewhat peaceful with her there. It seemed very tense lately. The past month was agonizingly slow. Three shards of the jewel were retrieved since Sesshomaru's arrival. He had almost become accustomed to fighting alongside Inuyasha.

Though he was getting along better with everybody, he felt himself distancing more from the miko. They never spoke. Not once since Sesshomaru lashed out on her in the hut so long ago. Kagome would now send the young kitsune to Sesshomaru with his food, which amused him somewhat.

Now, Kagome stood before the group with a wide goofy smile. Sesshomaru looked away trying to erase his mind of such unimportant thoughts. Who cared where she went anyway?

Though he couldn't help but notice something. She always seemed to leave in a bad mood. Almost to tears, sometimes, and when she returned she had such a look of contentment on her face it almost made him feel happy for her. Where did she go to become so happy? Where did she runaway?
