Chapter 24

Tears

Shippo sank to the ground slowly. He couldn't grasp the situation. They couldn't be dead. They were fine a while ago. They were smiling when he said goodbye. Tears made their way down his cheeks.

He got up and ran. He wasn't paying attention to the stares he was receiving as he ran down the street. There was only one place he could go to. He wasn't thinking about where he was going. His body knew where he wanted to go.

Before he knew it he was at her door. He just stood there. Kagome answered the door. Inuyasha had told her that he was there. When he didn't knock she got up to see him. She was wondering why he would be here when he left for home twenty minutes ago.

Kagome gasped as she saw the tears flowing down his face. "Shippo?" She said. He looked up at her and hugged her. Kagome hugged him back. "What's wrong?"

"Okaa-san and Otou-san. They're dead." He stuttered. He hugged her tighter as more tears fell.

Kagome was shocked to hear they died. She would get answers from him once he calmed down. "Lets go sit on the bed." She said. Shippo nodded and they both sat on the bed.

Shippo once again embraced her still crying. Inuyasha, Sango, and Miroku just watched. There was nothing they could say. Inuyasha didn't have a good feeling about it. Someone sent them a doll that looked like Shippo and now his parents are dead.

"Lets go to his house. Something doesn't feel right." Inuyasha said to Miroku.

"I'll go to." Sango said. "Shippo only needs Kagome right now."

"I'll go tell Sesshomaru to watch them." Inuyasha said.

"What should we tell Kagome?" Sango asked Miroku.

"We'll write down what we're going to do so Shippo doesn't know." Miroku whispered. He wrote it down and held it behind Shippo's head so Kagome could read it. She nodded and continued to comfort Shippo.

When Inuyasha got back to the room Sango and Miroku got up and told him that they'd already told Kagome. Inuyasha looked at Kagome before leaving. Kagome gave him a smile and they left.

"Does anyone know where he lives or will I have to sniff out his scent?" Inuyasha asked.

"I have it." Sango said. "He told me where he lived just in case something happened to Kagome and I couldn't reach him by phone."

"Good, lets get going." Inuyasha said.

When they got there the door was wide open. Inuyasha walked in with Miroku and Sango behind him. The air was thick with the scent of death. He covered his nose with his shirt. "What's wrong?" Miroku asked.

"The scent of death is too much." Inuyasha said. He followed the scent into the living room. They all gasped as they saw Shippo's parents on the floor. They were covered in blood. "They were murdered."

"It seems so." Miroku said.

"They were attacked." Sango said. "But by who?"

"I don't know. I can only smell death right now." Inuyasha said. They looked around for a while to see if there were any clues. After a half an hour of searching Inuyasha couldn't take the smell. "Find anything?"

"Nothing here." Miroku said.

"Same with me." Sango said.

"Lets go then." Inuyasha said. "The smells getting to be too much."

They walked outside and shut the door. Who would do something like that? Why would someone do something like that? They all thought of who it might be. No one said anything. They didn't want it to be true.

When they got back into the room Kagome was sitting on the bed with her back against the wall. Shippo was asleep with his head on her lap. Kagome was stroking his hair. Inuyasha felt a twinge of jealousy run through him but let it pass because of what happened.

"I'm going to take a shower. Don't say anything about what we saw." Inuyasha said. "I'll tell her later."

Miroku and Sango nodded. They walked into their room. Kagome looked at everyone strangely. What was going on? Kagome heard the shower and decided she would have to ask him later. She had to get the answers from someone.

While they were gone Kagome had held Shippo. After a half an hour he fell asleep. He must have been tired because he just collapsed on her. Kagome felt like crying too. His parents were like her aunt and uncle. She held her tears in for Shippo's sake.

Why was this happening? Was it Naraku? Why would he go after Shippo? Who was the package from and what did it mean? She looked out the window and saw that the sun had already gone down. She hadn't even realized it had gotten so late.

Inuyasha came out of the bathroom with a towel on his head. He sat on the other side of the bed and dried his hair. He felt better now that the smell was gone. Now he only smelled the sweet scent of Kagome.

He sat down on the bed next to Kagome. He knew how Shippo felt. He'd lost his parents too. Although they weren't murdered he still knew how it felt. He reached over and grabbed one of Kagome's hands and squeezed it.

Kagome smiled at him and squeezed back. She felt as though he was trying to comfort her. How could he know what she was feeling? Maybe she was reading in too much into the gesture.

A couple hours later Shippo woke up. His eyes burned from crying. He sat up and remembered he'd fallen asleep on Kagome. He looked at her. She was sleeping sitting up. Inuyasha was holding her hand. He was asleep too.

Shippo got up and walked towards the window. Who could've done such a thing? He knew it was murder. He should have called the police or something. All he did was leave. That was the first thing that popped into his head. Run away.

He was going to write a note for Kagome. He was going to write that he was going to the police and that he'd call her later. He didn't have to now. She was slowly waking up. She rubbed her eyes and finally opened them.

"Shippo? What's wrong?" Kagome asked. `That was a great question.' She thought.

"I'm going to the police." Shippo said. "I didn't call them or anything."

"Are you sure you're going to be all right? Do you want me to go with you?" Kagome said.

"No, I'll be fine on my own." Shippo said. "Besides Inuyasha will be mad if you left." He smiled.

"Call me as soon as you can. I'll ask Sesshomaru if you can stay here." Kagome said.

"Arigato." Shippo said. He hugged her before he left.

Kagome watched as he left. He was trying to put on a brave face. This had to be the worst thing he's ever faced. He'd had a good life. Loving parents, good school, and nice friends. Now his whole world has been turned upside down.

"Is he going to be ok?" Inuyasha said.

Kagome jumped. She didn't know he was awake. "How long have you been up?"

"I've been up the whole time. I just rested my eyes." Inuyasha said. "You didn't answer my question."

"He'll be fine." Kagome said. "I need to talk to Sesshomaru though."

"I already did. He can stay." Inuyasha said. "But there's only these two rooms so he'll have to share with one of us. I prefer if he stays with Miroku and Sango."

"Why is that?" Kagome said. She sat down on the bed.

"Because we never have any time to ourselves." Inuyasha said. He pulled her towards him. She was on her stomach draped across Inuyasha's waist.

"Well with all this stuff going on." Kagome said.

"I know." Inuyasha said. He rubbed Kagome's back. She sighed.

"I want all of this to end." Kagome said.

"So do I." Inuyasha said. "I guess we won't be spending the day together tomorrow."

"Gomen." Kagome said.

"It's ok. We can do it some other day." Inuyasha said. "I just won't go easy on you."

"Mou, you're mean." Kagome said. She flipped over so she was on her back and closed her eyes.

Inuyasha stared at her before leaning down to capture her lips. He missed the feeling even though he kissed her only a little while ago. He just loved the taste of her. He urged her to open her mouth.

She complied and opened her mouth enough for him to slip his tongue in. Inuyasha lifted her up and sat her in his lap. His hands went down to her back to push her against him.

He left her lips in favor of her throat. Kagome rubbed his ears while he kissed and nipped at her neck. She shivered when he licked his mark. He stopped to pull his shirt off. Once it was on the floor he went back to kissing her lips.

His hands made their way to the hem of her dress. He was about to pull it up over her head until he heard clapping. He stopped what he was doing and looked up. Miroku was standing in the doorway with Sango.

"I think that's the longest you've gone without touching her since you got together." Miroku said. "You should get an award."

"I should bash your head in." Inuyasha growled. "Haven't you ever heard of privacy?"

Kagome pulled the blanket over her head too embarrassed to look at anyone right now. "Of course I have. You should lock all doors when getting intimate." Miroku grinned lecherously.

Inuyasha growled again before jumping up and pushing Miroku and Sango out of the room. He slammed the door and locked it and did the same to the other door. He walked back over to the bed and pulled the covers off Kagome's head.

"Where were we?" He said.
