Chapter 26

Questioning

When everyone was done eating they headed back towards the hotel. Kagome, Sango, and Shippo were in front of Inuyasha and Miroku. Kagome was a little worried about Shippo. He acted as if nothing bad happened at all. He usually didn't act like that.

She wasn't mad at Inuyasha anymore. Slightly irritated because he'd thrown her into a freezing cold shower while she was half asleep. It was his fault she was so tired anyway. She blushed at the thought.

"Kagome you're red are you ok?" Shippo asked.

"Hai, I'm fine." Kagome said.

Everyone was silent until they got to there rooms. Kagome, Inuyasha and to his dislike Shippo were all in their room. Sango and Miroku were in their room.

"So Shippo when did you get back?" Kagome asked.

"A couple hours after I left. It was getting late and they wanted to investigate the house more." Shippo said.

"Did they talk to you at all?" Kagome asked.

"Not really. They asked what I saw and then went around looking for clues." Shippo said. "I'm supposed to go over to the station around five."

"Oh, so then what room are you going to be staying in?" Kagome asked.

"I'd rather stay with you but I don't think Inuyasha would like that very much. Especially after last night." Shippo said.

"What do you mean after last night?" Kagome blushed.

"I came by to tell you I was back and ask where I was going to sleep but no one answered. So I went to Miroku and Sango's room. Then we heard a lot of screaming and yelling. I heard a bark or two." Shippo said.

Kagome blushed even more. "Let's see what's on TV." She said quickly and grabbed the remote.

"Kagome the station wants to talk to you later." Inuyasha said.

"Why me?" Kagome asked.

"Yeah why would they want to talk to her?" Shippo asked.

"You didn't know they wanted to talk to her?" Inuyasha asked.

"No." Shippo said. "They only asked me what I saw and where I was going to stay."

"They must have came by and talked to Sesshomaru then." Inuyasha said.

"I still don't see why they would want to talk to me though." Kagome said.

"I don't know." Inuyasha said. "I guess we'll find out when we call them now won't we?"

"I guess." Kagome said. "Do you have the number?" Inuyasha handed her the card and she walked over to the phone.

She walked back over to Inuyasha and Shippo and sat down. "Well what did they say?" Inuyasha asked.

"They want me to go to the station in about an hour." Kagome said.

"I'm going with you." Inuyasha said.

"You'd have to. I don't know where it is." Kagome said.

"Well I'll just stay here with Miroku and Sango since I don't have to go back for a while." Shippo said. "I'll probably take a nap."

"You don't want to come?" Kagome asked.

"No, I'm fine." Shippo said. "Besides it's a waste to go over there and then have to go back a couple of hours later."

"He's right Kagome." Inuyasha said.

"Ok." Kagome said. "So what should we do until we have to leave?"

"I don't know but we should do something before the weekend is over." Inuyasha said.

"Oh that's right." Kagome said. "So what are you going to do about school Shippo?"

"I'll still go to school I guess." Shippo said. "Don't worry I'll figure it out later."

"That reminds me. Didn't we have a project due in class?" Kagome asked Inuyasha.

"Oh yeah." Inuyasha said. "I forgot all about that. I already turned it in."

"But we didn't finish it. We barely even started on it." Kagome said.

"I finished it." Inuyasha said. "Your mom called your school and said you'd be home schooled."

"When did she do that?" Kagome asked.

"A while ago." Inuyasha said. "I just forgot to tell you."

"Oh." Kagome said. They decided to just watch TV again until Kagome and Inuyasha had to leave. Shippo went into Sango and Miroku's room when they left.

When Inuyasha and Kagome got to the station they stopped at the front desk. "Can I help you?" The lady looked at them suspiciously.

"I'm here to see a detective about the Kitsune family." Kagome said.

"Oh yeah they're in the interrogation room." The lady said. It seemed like she was trying to intimidate them. "You can't go." She said to Inuyasha.

"Why not?" Inuyasha said.

"Because they only want to talk to the girl." She said.

"She's not going anywhere without me." Inuyasha said.

"Well you can't go around demanding stuff like that." The lady raised her voice slightly.

"Well then you won't be talking to her." Inuyasha said, crossing his arms.

"Just let him come." A guy in a suit said from behind the lady.

"Fine." The lady said.

"Come with me." The man said. They followed him into a room near the back of the station. "Sorry about that she thinks teenagers are what's wrong with the world these days."

"It's ok." Kagome said.

"Let me introduce myself, I'm Detective Aoki, Ryo." He said holding out his hand. "You're Higurashi, Kagome am I right?"

"Hai." Kagome said shaking his hand.

"And you are?" He asked Inuyasha waiting to shake his hand.

"Inuyasha." He looked at his hand and moved to stand behind Kagome.

"You have to excuse him. He's cranky today." Kagome said as she jabbed him with her elbow.

"Keh." Inuyasha said.

"That's all right." The detective said. "I called you here to ask you some questions."

"I don't know how I could help at all but go ahead." Kagome said.

"Well we know that you are close to Shippo and his family before he moved." He said. "We wanted to ask if you know of anyone who might want to hurt them. Or anything like that."

"I don't know. They were really nice people I don't see how anyone could hate them." Kagome said. "They were like a second family to me."

"We would like to talk to your mother." The detective said. "We've tried calling but no one picks up the phone."

"They are on vacation." Kagome said.

"I see. Why aren't you with them?"

"I have my reasons."

"I don't see what any of these questions have to do with Shippo's parents." Inuyasha said.

"It's just something we need to know." The detective frowned. "You are staying at a hotel now aren't you?"

"Hai, like Inuyasha, I don't see what these questions have to do with Shippo's parents Detective." Kagome said.

"Please call me Ryo." He said. "It's just so we know how to contact you if something happens."

"What else could happen?" Kagome asked.

"Well just in case the worst happens we want to be prepared." He smiled. "I have a couple more things to ask you then you and your boyfriend can go."

After about fifteen minutes of questioning they were able to leave. The lady at the front desk took in all of Kagome's information. Like her address, phone number, and other stuff that was probably useless.

Kagome noticed how tense Inuyasha was. "What's wrong?" She asked as they headed back to the hotel.

"Nothing I just don't like that guy." Inuyasha said.

"What's wrong with him?" Kagome asked. She thought he was polite.

"The way he looks at you." He said.

"What do you mean the way he looks at me?"

"I don't know I just don't like it."

"Are you getting jealous again? You know he's like twenty-something so you don't have to worry about it."

"That doesn't mean the hentai won't try anything."

"Do you have something against all guys? You think they're all perverts."

"I just don't like the ones that look at you." He said. "Besides every guy you've met has liked you or tried to hit on you."

"That's not true."

"Miroku, Kouga, the detective, and don't forget the one that's about to die soon." Inuyasha said. He meant Naraku on the last one. He didn't want to make her remember anything.

"You make it seem like every guy will try to hit on me." She said. "I haven't met that many guys anyway."

"Every guy you've met has tried to hit on you." Inuyasha said. "The cop was flirting with you."

"Then what's your excuse?" Kagome teased. "If every guy who hits on me is a pervert then you must be the worst one."

"That's different and you know it." Inuyasha said.

"How so?" She asked.

"Keh." He said. Which meant he didn't know how to answer it. Kagome smiled and slid her hand into his. He smiled when she did that. They silently walked to the hotel.

Sorry I haven't been able to review. I had a lot of homework, got into trouble because of my report card, and had to clean my room. (Well I'm still cleaning I'm writing while I'm on my `break'.)
