Mother, daughter and son had sat for hours in the dark hut lit only by the light of the fire. Toga smiled softly as he and his two sons sat against the back wall and listened to the conversation. Rin and Shippou sat sleeping in the laps of their respective adoptive fathers while Sango and Miroku sat together along another wall, Kaede beside them.

The conversation had started out on the morose side as Mamma Higurashi recounted how Inuyasha had come to her late one night with tears in his eyes and on his face. Throughout the tale of the hanyou's mournful visit, Inuyasha sat with his eyes closed as he tried to fight off the remembered tears of that time not even a month ago.

He looked up when he felt eyes on him and met Kagome's stare. Her eyes were a curious shade of blue, something between a sapphire and the ocean waters during a rain. The cerulean depths shimmered and he saw the tears held within the orbs. His brows furrowed. She was crying, why? He could feel her using the link of his mark on her neck to beckon him closer silently. Answering her silent call, he lifted the sleeping kitsune and set him aside on the floor against the wall. Moving next to her, he knelt down and lifted her into his arms, settling her in his lap as he took her seat on the floor.

Toga and Mamma Higurashi gave twin smiles as they both shared the same thought; Kagome and Inuyasha were a match made by the kami-sama themselves. Toga was surprised when he suddenly found his arms full with his eldest son's sleeping daughter and watched as Sesshoumaru stood. He watched as his son cast a hard glance at Kikyou, making it clear that the resurrected miko was to follow him outside.

The rain Sesshoumaru predicted had stopped only moments before, leaving the ground wet and a bit muddy. Kikyou followed after him silently as he led her a good ways from the hut so that their conversation wouldn't be overheard. Once he had traveled far enough, the youkai turned and looked upon her with a cold stare.

“Miko,” he spoke emotionlessly. “I wish to know what intentions you have toward my brother and his mate.”

“My intentions?” she asked with a shake of her head.

A single silver brow rose, as his patience grew short. He hadn't liked her when she was a live the first time, and positively detested her when she was undead and roaming the land living off of souls.

“Do you intend to continue pursuing my brother as you did in the past? Do you still wish for his mate's death?” he asked clearly stating where Kagome stood within the pack.

“You have no need to worry about harm befalling her, at least not from me,” Kikyou answered in the same dry and emotionless tone. “I am in her debt for restoring me to a true existence.”

“And my brother?” he asked his eyes hard as stone.

“I have no intentions toward him, not romantically.”

“Do you still intend on ending his life?” Sesshoumaru felt the short hairs on his arms and the back of his neck bristle as he prepared silently for battle.

“No.”

“As our father has been returned, so our packs have been fused. Should you make any attempt on my brother, or his mate's lives you will be dealing with this Sesshoumaru as well as my father. Do not think yourself safe from our wrath should you bring harm upon her.”

“I have no intention of harming her or Inuyasha,” she stated again. “And Rin? What of her?” Kikyou asked.

The miko suddenly found herself slammed up against a tree, Sesshoumaru's fingers tight around her throat as he snarled at her threateningly.

“Rin is my pup,” he growled low and dangerously.

Kikyou's hands scratched at the single hand that held her off the ground and pressed up to the tree by her throat. He was choking her and she was beginning to lose air. She couldn't breathe. She tried several times to say his name but couldn't even get air into her larynx to make her voice work.

“Son,” Toga said the youkai suddenly behind him. “At least let her the air to breathe.”

A low snarl came from Sesshoumaru's throat as he tossed Kikyou aside into the wet grass. Two pairs of golden eyes watched her get up, one curious, the other deadly. She rubbed her hand over her throat, soothing the aching flesh as she coughed and took gasping breaths of air into her lungs.

“I didn't,” she croaked and cleared her throat. “I didn't intend for that to be taken as a threat of any kind,” she said her voice weak. “I simply meant to ask if you would have her trained.”

“Have who trained?” Toga asked as he looked at the woman.

“Rin,” Sesshoumaru said simply, his father's presence calming him somewhat.

“Trained as what?” Toga asked her.

“A healer or perhaps a miko. She has the aura and talent for either,” Kikyou said as her voice grew strength.

If she is trained by either, my pup will be instructed by those at my - our castle,” Sesshoumaru said his voice cold and low.

It was nearly a quarter hour later that the three returned to the hut. The sight that greeted them as they stepped inside nearly made Sesshoumaru smile, if not for the heaviness of the conversation he'd previously had. There by the rear wall, lay Inuyasha and Kagome snuggled into one another. But that wasn't what made the sight so endearing. The mates did not lay alone. Curled up against Inuyasha's side, opposite Kagome was Souta, Kagome's younger brother. On top of Inuyasha's chest lay Rin and Shippou, the two pups rising and falling gently with each breath the hanyou took.

Kagome's face was tucked into Inuyasha's neck, her arm thrown over the pups as she kept them protected and in place as they all slept. Souta slept as well, his hand fisted in the wrist of Kagome's sleeve as he comforted himself with the knowledge of her presence. Mamma Higurashi sat near the fire, though her attention was on the sleeping bundle of bodies. Tears were in her eyes, though they wouldn't fall. She was so glad to have her precious daughter back. And not only that, but now she was able to see the word her daughter enjoyed living in so much.

“They look quite peaceful don't they?” Toga said softly as he sat next to her by the fire.

“Yes, they do,” she answered her voice soft as well though it was unsteady.

Toga watched the woman and lifted his hand to her face when he saw a few tears fall, his fingers gently brushing the droplets away. She hadn't cried very much since she had seen her daughter, not wanting to worry the girl, though Toga knew her tears wished to be shed. He took her into his arms, her face tucked into his shoulder as she finally let go and released her tears of relieved joy.

“Shh, it's alright now,” he whispered to her.

Gathering the woman up in his arms, Toga stood and settled himself against the same wall that his son slept along. He settled the woman in his lap; much like Inuyasha would with Kagome at times, and held her in his arms.

“I don't think you ever told me your name mother,” he said to her with a gentle smile.

“Takara,” she said with a sleepy yawn. “My name is Takara.”

“Takara-chan,” he said quietly. Little treasure.

That she was indeed. Quite the treasure. Sesshoumaru looked on at them both. How awkward could that be? That of course would depend upon whether or not his father really did have an interest in Kagome's mother. Sesshoumaru though held no doubt that his father felt something for the woman. The last time he'd seen the youkai look at someone that way had been when Izayoi was alive. Could it be that his father was falling in love with a human all over again?
