Sanctuary

A lifetime of searching
A lifetime of seeking
Looking for a place of rest
A place of healing
A haven that never existed
 
I wandered the world alone
With bitterness in my heart
Trusting no one
They all sought to take it from me
My sanctuary
 
They relished in my pain
Rejoiced in my suffering
My heart could take no more
So I hid in darkness and shadow
Avoiding the light
 
How long had it been
A year, a decade, a century
I do not know
I only remember feeling despair…
As each day came and went
I had lost all hope of finding peace
 
I never thought I would find someone…
Who could heal my injured soul
Your laughter warmed my heart
Your sweet innocence made me smile
Your pain caused me to shed tears
With out you beside me…
I felt incomplete
Lost
 
I had finally found my sanctuary…
