Chapter 2: Confrontation

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"So explain this to me again, Miroku. Why is it that the girls get to go home while we have to go out and find this damned thing again? And what is it again?" Inuyasha asked, rather annoyed.
Miroku sighed, wondering how stupid Inuyasha could be. "Inuyasha, once I explain this, I do not want to have to explain this again. Ok?"
"Fine, just tell me this again, then I'll drop it." Inuyasha said, walking onwards.
Miroku sighed, and walked after him, readying to tell Inuyasha for the fourth time why they were going. "Look, since Sango-sama still isn't feeling all that well, Kagome agreed to take her on home ahead of us, so that we could keep going to get those herbs. The herbs we're looking for are excellent for working against Naraku's miasma. Sango is still weak from the miasma she inhaled at Naraku's castle, and Kirara is also still suffering from it as well. It couldn't hurt to have these herbs. Who knows, maybe we can even come up with some kind of antidote that could help neutralize the poison in Naraku's insects, which would let me use my kazanaa a bit more often without much fear. Is that good enough for you, Inuyasha?"
"That's fine for now. I still don't see why they had to go home ahead of us though. One of us could have gone with Sango, and Kagome could have come to help us get these herbs."
"Don't worry Inuyasha, Kagome's been teaching me a lot about dientifying herbs and other medicinal plants, so I'm pretty sure I'll find what we're looking for." A young kitsune spoke up from his perch on Inuyasha's shoulder.
**Miroku's thoughts**
**It surprises me that Kagome-sama asked us to take Shipou with us in her place. I know that she's been teaching Shippou about identifing herbs and plants that are good with medicine, but could she have really done that good of a job teaching him? Just the fact that Shippou agreed to come with us and leave Kagome-sama's side is shocking enough. Shippou looks at her like she's his mother, I can't understand why he'd be so willing to leave her side.**
Miroku voiced his thoughts. "Shippou, why was it that you agreed to come with us in Kagome-sama's place?"
"Because she asked me to! She said that Sango would be more comfortable around her than either of you guys, especially Miroku."
Miroku sweatdropped when he heard this.
"Besides, I'm too young to watch after anyone, so Kagome said I should go and help you guys while she looked after Sango!" The young kitusne answered happily. "Now I finally get a chance to show you guys that I can be pretty useful!"
"Just make sure you get the right plants, alright Shippou? I'd rather not get back to the village only to find out we got the wrong plants and have to go back again to get the right ones, got it?" Inuyasha threatened.
"Of course not, Inuyasha! I'd never let Kagome down like that!" Shippou replied.
"Yeah, I guess not. You're completely loyal to her, no matter what happens. You'd do just about anything she'd ask you to do, wouldn't you?" Inuyasha pressed the little fox.
"Yeah, what about it?" Shippou asked, worried what the answer would be.
"Nothing. It's just that we got something in common then. I'd do the same thing for her, if she asked me."
Miroku and Shippou were both shocked. They thought that Inuyasha hated Shippou.
**Now that I think about it, Kagome-sama is not around, so nether of them are competing for her attention. They usually fight when one of them is getting too much of Kagome-sama's attention. Pure jealousy is what usually sets them against each other. I guess it's a different story when she isn't here.**
Miroku would have plenty of time to sort out Inuyasha's multiple sides and quirks later. They were still a long ways from this village, at the rate they were walking.
~Back at the hut Kagome and Sango were left at~
"Sango-chan, will you be ready to move later today? It will take the boys plenty of time to get to the village and back, so we should try and get to Kaede's village as soon as we can. You and Kirara are both still partially wounded, and we wouldn't be able to put up much of a fight if we got attacked here."
"I'll be ok later, Kagome-chan. I just want to rest a bit today." Sango answered her, rolling herself over under her kimono.
Kagome smiled at the older girl. "Ok, you can rest for a bit Sango-chan. I'm going to go finish cleaning your other kimono." Kagome said as she picked up Sango's light pink and magenta kimono. There were tears throughout the fabric, and most of the blood stains in the material had faded. Kagome sighed and went to work while Sango went back to sleep.
~Several hours later~
"Kagome...chan..." Sango called out sleepily, rubbing her eyes as she sat up, using her other hand to hold her kimono over her chest.
"Hai, Sango-chan? Have a good rest?" Kagome asked over her shoulder while folding up Sango's magenta kimono.
Sango noticed that her other kimono was back in normal condition. "How long was I asleep?"
"It's been a while, I will admit. I think it's been almost four or so hours. That's quite a bit of sleep, considering you slept most of the night." Kagome said, coming close enough to remind Sango of her dream the previous night.
Kagome noticed Sango pull her kimon up to her neck after she mentioned last night.
"I didn't get to much sleep because of that dream last night." Sango said.
"Still thinking of Naraku and Kohaku?" Kagome suggested.
Sango nodded, but that wasn't why. She was thinking more of the part with Kagome. The previous night when Kagome had described her dream to Sango, Sango realized that their dreams were almost identical. Sango wanted to talk to Kagome about it, but was scared to.
Kagome felt the same way, but she was worried about how Sango would react. She had resolved to talk with Sango about this sometime before they got to Kaede's village.
Sango had made a similar choice to talk with Kagome, only at least before the boys got back. Now seemed as good a time as any.
"Hey-"
"Hey-"
Both girls started to speak at the same time. They both stopped, blushing lightly.
"Go ahead, Kagome-chan."
"No Sango-chan, you go first."
"Ok. It is about my dream last night. I was awake thinking about that last night. It was mainly after you mentioned your dream to me. I realized that what you described was very similar to what happened towards the end of my dream."
Kagome looked at her friend, a bit curious. "What do you mean, Sango-chan?"
"The part about you coming to comfort me, that also happened in my dream." Sango said, looking off to the side.
Kagome blushed when she heard that.
~*Is she trying to say that what I saw happen in my dream between us also happened in her dream?*~ Kagome thought, surprised.
"Sango-chan, what is it you're trying to say?" Kagome asked, worried but still excited.
"Kagome-chan, I know that you left something out last night when you told me of your dream." Sango said, still not directly looking at Kagome.
"How...did you know?" Kagome asked.
~*Did she dream the same thing? Why won't she look at me, is she embarrassed?*~
"I know that you left something out because...you just told me." Sango said, turning to smile at Kagome.
Kagome blushed, realizing she had given it away without knowing it.
"...but I also know, because I had the same dream. I want to know if what I saw, was the same as what you saw..."
"Well...what was it you saw exactly, Sango-chan?"
"Well, first you walked up behind me, hugged me from behind and rested your head on my shoulder..."
Kagome gasped, remembering she had done exactly that in her dream. Sango continued.
"...then you started to tell me that we would find Kohaku and defeat Naraku, and restore his memory and his life..." Sango trailed off.
Kagome knew what happened next. "...and then I did something...unusual, right?"
Sango nodded and moved on. "I felt you kiss my cheek, and then you moved on and kissed my neck." Sango blushed while saying this, rembering that even though it was a dream, the feeling was still real and she had enjoyed it.
Kagome blushed as well. She knew she had done that, although it felt as if she was moving without thinking, like her body was going to do what it wanted with Sango whether Kagome actually wanted to or not.
Sango had been moving the same way, her body moving without her control. She still was excited by the dream though.
"And then we turned and faced each other, right?" Kagome asked quietly.
"Right. After that, I woke up." Sango said back.
"Yeah. We never got to go any further than that." Kagome said, seeming a bit disapointed.
Sango smiled. Kagome had sat down next to Sango while she was talking to her.
"I'm glad it didn't get that far, Kagome-chan." Sango said.
Kagome's face fell when she heard this.
~*She doesn't feel the same way I do. She's glad we didn't kiss in the dream...wait, what's she doing?*~ Kagome thought when Sango reached up and grabbed her chin lightly.
"Because it would feel a lot better to do it in person, not in a dream." Sango told her as she moved in to capture Kagome's lips with her own.
Kagome was surprised at Sango's move, but closed her eyes and leaned into the kiss nonetheless.
Sango had thought her first kiss would be different. She didn't expect it to be so gentle. Kagome's lips were soft and firm against her own. Sango savored Kagome's taste, gently sucking on Kagome's kower lip.
Kagome could feel Sango's lips, pressed firmly against hers. Her lips were soft, but still needy. She could tell by the way Sango sucked on her lower lip that Sango had been wanting this. Kagome responded by sucking on Sango's upper lip in return.
The girls broke the kiss a few seconds later. Kagome pulled her head back slightly, opening her eyes to stare into Sango's.
"Sango...but..." Kagome started.
Sango noticed Kagome use her name without any other title. "It's ok Kagome. That's something that's been on my mind a lot these last few days. I really care for you a lot, Kagome-chan, and I hope my love for you isn't one-sided."
"So then I wasn't the only one feeling this way...actually, I thought that you might not love me the way I did you." Kagome said quietly.
"Really? I thought maybe you didn't feel the same way I did. That thought came mainly from the fact that you left out that part of the dream about us you had last night."
"I could say the same thing about you, Sango-chan." Kagome said playfully. "You never told me about that part of the dream either."
"I was worried that I might scare you if I told you about it. I didn't want you to leave me, especially not after all that's been happening after these last few days."
Kagome nodded, still sitting besides Sango. She moved her hand and rubbed her back softly.
"I do thank you a lot for being here for me, Kagome-chan." Sango said, leaning into Kagome's shoulder, enjoying the feel of Kagome's hand softly rubbing her bare back. "I'm not sure how I would have made it through all this without you to help me get through it." Sango sighed deeply, shivering at Kagome's touch on her back. "Hmmm, that feels good, Kagome."
Kagome blushed, remembering she was still rubbing Sango's back. Sango still only had her kimono, and that was only covering her front, leaving her back exposed.
Kagome lifted her hand to Sango's shoulder, squeezing it lightly. "I think you should get dressed now, we should be heading out soon."
"But Kagome, it's almost evening. Couldn't we wait until tomorrow to go back to the village?" Sango pleaded. She leaned more heavily on Kagome's shoulder, and placed her hand on top of Kagome's on her shoulder.
"I know, but still. You should at least get dressed, Sango-chan. It's going to be a bit cold tonight." Kagome said, blushing and turning slightly away.
Sango looked down at herself, and noticed that her other hand was barely holding her kimono above her chest, leaving some of her breast exposed. Sango blushed as well, and readjusted her kimono so it covered herself appropriately.
"H-hai, Kagome-chan." Sango said as she stood up, and pulled the kimono over her. Once she had her arms through, she tied the kimono shut. A thought occurred to her.
"Kagome-chan, what are you going to do to stay warm tonight? Do you have anything?"
Kagome looked up at Sango, wondering if she had brought anything. "I don't know, I don't think I did...oh great. At least we're inside for tonight, huh?" Kagome said, smiling up at her friend.
Sango looked down for a moment, then an idea popped into her mind. "Kagome-chan, why don't you borrow my other kimono? You did finish fixing it earlier, right?"
Kagome looked down thoughtfully, then smiled back up at Sango. "Arigato, Sango-chan."
Kagome stood and walked over to where she had put Sango's magenta kimono, leaned down and picked it up. She pulled her shirt over her head, and dropped her skirt to her ankles. Once she had removed the skirt from her ankles, she pulled the light pink and magenta kimono over her shoulders and put her arms through.
Sango watched Kagome the whole time, admiring the younger girls form.
<*I've never gotten to see her like this. She'd usually be more secretive about it, but none of the guys are here, especially not that lecher, so she really has nothing to worry about. Except for me, that is.*> Sango thought, still staring at Kagome.
Kagome really hadn't given a second thought about changing in front of Sango. She was still wearing her underwear, so she was mostly covered. She hadn't known that whenever she had the chance, Sango would also sneak glances at the young miko, as Kagome did with the older slayer.
Sango had been to busy admiring the younger girl's underwear to notice that Kagome had already turned back and was tying the robe shut in front of her.
Sango started when she heard her voice. "Huh?"
"Good to see you're still here, Sango-chan, you looked pretty out of it. What were you staring at a moment ago?"
Sango blushed and looked away, so as not to look Kagome in the face. "I was...looking at you...while you were changing, gomen."
Kagome blushed at the thought that Sango was checking her out. "There's no reason to be sorry, Sango. To be honest, I've done that a few times myself. Mainly at any of the hot springs we've visited."
Sango looked up at the red-faced girl, and smiled. "I always wondered why you would sometimes turn away quickly. I did that too sometimes." Sango giggled at the thought of the two girls trying to sneak glances at each other without the other noticing. "I think it's kind of funny, actually."
Kagome smiled back. "That we both were trying to be sneaky about staring at each other?" Kagome started to giggle too. "I guess you're right. I think now the only problem we'll have is trying to keep it from the boys, won't we?"
Sango sweatdropped when she thought of how Miroku would act. "Houshi-sama would probably be delighted at the thought of the two of us together. We definitely have to keep him from finding out. Shippou too, he'd probably let it slip in conversation somewhere."
Kagome sighed, thinking of how Inuyasha would react. "And obviously not Inuyasha. He's bad enough when another guy is chasing after me, just think of how he'd act if he found out another WOMAN was chasing me..." Kagome trailed off, starting to laugh.
Sango laughed as well. "That poor dog, he'd feel so confused. I might actually feel sorry for both of the boys, you know? Both of them are chasing after the two of us, I wonder who they would chase after once they find out we're with each other?"
Kagome just glared into the fire in the middle of the hut. "Knowing Miroku, he'd just keep doing the same thing he always does: try to grope and sleep with any woman who's willing to. Inuyasha though...he still has Kikyo. Although I don't know why he'd turn back to the ice witch that easily." Kagome said.
Sango noticed a bit of anger in her friends voice. "Kagome, you're not jealous at the thought that Inuyasha would run to Kikyo after he finds out you're unavailable, are you?"
Kagome sighed, hoping not to offend her friend, who obviously would not be pleased to know Kagome would get jealous over a man she wouldn't go after again.
"Maybe I am, but maybe I just want to protect his feelings. She only wants him to join her in hell. She thinks that it would be just punishment for her losing her life because of Naraku's trickery. She can't seem to understand that Inuyasha already suffered enough as it is when he got sealed to that tree for fifty years. He lost everything he's ever known, the first girl he loved having betrayed him being the last thought that would cross his mind before he got sealed. She's not even supposed to be alive, anyways. She's not even alive! She's the walking dead, she also has a part of my soul...all because Naraku tricked her." Kagome felt she was starting to tear up.
"Why can't she just return to the earth and give me back the rest of my soul? It hasn't been the same since the demon witch stole my soul to recreate Kikyo. It's not even her soul anymore, she's a part of me now. Why can't she accept it and leave us alone?" Kagome broke down and started to cry.
Sango went over to her friend and wrapped her arms around her, pulling her close to her chest. "Don't worry, Kagome. We'll take care of this eventually. You don't need to worry about it anymore, because I'll help you get the rest of your soul back. I promise."
Kagome hiccuped a few times, then looked up to Sango. "You...*sniff*...you mean it, Sango?"
"What are girlfriends for, Kagome? I can't let my love go on without her entire soul, I wouldn't feel right." Sango said to the young girl, moving in to kiss her quickly on the lips.
Kagome reached up and wiped her tears away. "Arigato, Sango." Kagome moved back to kiss Sango again, their lips staying glued together for more than a second this time. When the kiss broke, they both had to gasp for air.
Sango got a rather evil thought.
"Kagome-chan," Sango said, brushing her lips against her cheek. "You said it was going to be a cold night, right?" Sango paused when Kagome moved up and kissed her again.
"Hai, it is." Kagome answered when she broke the kiss.
"I think I have an plan, and it should keep both of us VERY warm tonight," Sango trailed off, looking to the futon, "And I think a pair of kimonos would be wamer, than just having one, don't you think so?" Sango stood and pulled Kagome up. The slayer smiled innocently at her soon-to-be lover.
"I think you may be right, Sango. Why don't we go on to bed then?" Kagome said as she moved in to kiss Sango again.
As their lips met again, Kagome licked hungrily at Sango's lips while she pulled her back towards the futon.
~A/N: I know, I'm such a bastard, aren't I? Cutting it off right as it was getting good, I know. But hey: I did say I was going to let you guys know a chapter in advance if I was going to make the next one a lemon. So here's the advanced warning: TUNE IN NEXT TIME FOR THE LEMON-FILLED GOODNESS OF A YURI! Give me a week to churn this one out. I'm most likely going to end up writing it at first, then going over it again to make sure it ain't too hardcore for fanfiction.net, so that my story won't get wiped. But hopefully it won't be any worse than some of the other things I've read on this site, so relax. It'll be here eventually, so don't worry.
