“Naya,” Seakurio whispered from behind her laying a withered hand on her shoulder, “You should not be out here this early. It's too cold.”

She sighed laying her head against his hand desiring comfort.

“It's a shame you never had children Seakurio, you would have been wonderful to them. Besides it is not me you should be worrying about, it is you. I can handle cold, but you look like you would fall over dead.”

Naya brought her knees up to her chest and looked out into the seemingly endless plain. Fireflies danced around each other and off into the sky where they disappeared into the stars. Seakurio took away his hand and sat down next her; they sat in silence until the sky turned pink at the horizon. He stood up and rubbed her head then with heavy footsteps he walked inside and put a kettle on the dying fire.

“Why do you stay here? You have no purpose here, moping around and reminiscing about the past is no purpose. Your young still, nearly one hundred, but you walk around and act like your ancient. Is this how you want to live out your life? I care for you Naya but you worry me, this isn't what your father would want, nor is it what I want. Even if you got out of this place for a day and met someone……then you could live a normal life. I'm not saying that you forget what happened but hell you escaped that place you should be jumping for joy. You're not happy.”

“Millions didn't,” Seakurio knew when to push further and this was no subject to push, at least not with her. The kettle whistled its tune of hot tea cutting through the crushing silence between them. Naya got up and smoothed her kimono stepping into the dew covered grass. Walking slowly, her feet becoming soaked she felt the blades of grass grasp at her while she looked at a little bird chirped happily from its nest with three little fluffy heads popping out from under it. The ground stopped and slanted downward overlooking the glistening ocean. Waves pounded the bottom of the cliff as she sat down dangling her feet. The sun was barely showing its face, the pale yellow light slowly making its way over every surface with its warmth.

Naya groaned as the sun rose higher making it almost impossible to look at the ocean. Cursing at the sun she stood up and brushed the dirt off of her and made her way back to the house, even though he could be a pain she enjoyed the old youkais company. Seakurio surprised her in the way that he was nothing like other youkais…he acted almost human. She sighed and snatched a handful of grass shredding it into green slivers… humans…most youkais considered them harmless or even a nuisance, but they hadn't been there… hadn't seen what they could do.

He's right. I haven't gotten over it…not in the least.

Seakurio stood by the door plucking the petals off of a cherry blossom. His brown eyes filled with confusion. An old woman stepped out next to him putting her hand on his shoulder and opened her mouth to speak.

“The council needs you seeing as there are too many hot-headed men to even socialize peacefully let alone debate about future plans. I wouldn't be asking you if I didn't think it was absolutely necessary.”

“I can't. I have a child to care for.”

“Naya is not a child. “

“To this world she is. “

“What world? Where she came from and where she is, they are the same place Seakurio.”

“I'm done talking about this. Leave.”

“Seakurio… you don't know what your doing, think this over more.”

He snarled at her and in a low threatening tone he made his point clearer.

“Leave now.”

Looking defeated she turned and walked down the steps and onto the path. Naiya watched her until she was just a small black speck in the distance. Walking up to him she smiled only to get shot down with a glare.

“I never asked you to turn her down so why are you angry with me?”

Seakurio sat on the floor his legs crossed poking at the fire intent on making it grow bigger completely ignoring her question. Her eyes turned glossy as she fought back the tears. Leaning up against the wall she fell to the floor and banged her head against it.

“What's wrong with me, Seakurio? Why can't I let it go? God I want to let it go.”

“You have too, or you'll kill yourself.”

Naya nodded and tugged at the edges of her kimono. She just sat there in silence waiting for him to say something else or to comfort her. It hit her…she was a child. Laying her head back she sighed and pushed back all the sad thoughts and the wanting to be comforted.

“Push those back long enough and you'll become heartless.”

She stared at him, shocked, but he just smiled at her and went on.

“You forget how old I am. I know you heard me call you a child. It could be a bad thing or a very good thing seeing how you need that childlike innocence back but if you have that then you might forget what men can do to you and you'll end up in the same deep dark hole that you're in now.”

“What if I like my dark hole?”

His cream colored brows furrowed together and he flexed his hand. Dropping his head down to his chest he groaned, walking outside he disappeared into the darkness. Watching him leave she stuck the fish on the roasting sticks and rested them in the fire. A rustling noise drew her outside.

“Seakurio?”

It couldn't be him, he wouldn't be sneaking around, and it was his house. Naya cautiously walk around towards the bushes only to find a mother raccoon. Smiling she watched it scurried off, gasping she felt two arms encircle her abdomen as a deep voice spoke in her ear

“Evening beautiful.”

Groaning she moved his arms away from her and glared at the smiling youkai.

“Oh come on, don't tell me you aren't happy to see me?”

Chuckling sarcastically she turned to face him.

“Hmm smart and handsome, the local women must be going crazy over that combination, huh Akimitsu?”

“Well all of them except one.”

“You haven't given up on her huh?”

He smiled.

“Never.”

Faking a shocked look she looked over his features and forced back the any thoughts she might have about him. His indigo blue hair hadn't changed at all, it was still short except for one strand that hung down across his face and his light hazel eyes shimmered more than they did last time. Broad shoulders and toned muscles hid under mountains of clothes.

“Why do you always turn me down Naya?”

“Why should I accept?”

“I see the way you look at me whenever I come around and I'm better than those other scumbags here. You're better than them.”

Naya rested a foot on the wall and looked down at the ground. Akimitsu pushed her up against the wall and brought his lips close to hers and grabbed her head. He kissed her tenderly and pulled away his breath hot against her cheek.

“So will you or will you not marry me?”
