WHERE WE LEFT OFF: “Look Kouga,” she hissed, “I don’t care if you know my secret. You can’t tell a soul, Kaede won’t let you! And if you lay one hand on Shipp-” Kagome stopped suddenly as she was spun around to look into a pair of eyes that weren’t the blue ones she had expected. Amber eyes searched her soul, “What secret kid?” Inu Yasha growled. Kagome abruptly pushed herself out of his grasp and backed out from the shadowed area. “N-nothing sir,” she whispered as she ran towards Kaede’s room. ‘Where does he get off calling the captain Kaede? He should die for that, but for some reason I think Kaede is allowing it. What the hell is it with this boy? He deserves to take a bullet between his teeth….But what secret?…Damn brat intrigues me, good thing too, otherwise I’d have to get rid of him.’ Inu Yasha thought as he watched Kago’s fast retreating figure.

The door slammed open as Kagome burst in to Kaede’s room disrupting her meditation. Kaede took one look at her and the two of them discussed ways they could avoid being discovered. Soon after taking some extra precautions, such as Kagome’s room in the storage room being locked, and her breasts being bound, the two of them emerged from the cabin. Kaede told the crew to pack up all the spare wood and to get some sleep because they were heading off to rebuild on the closest island. She took the wheel and steered the Tetsusaiga towards the west. The crew began to clean up the leftover wood and sails and then one by one went to their rooms. Kagome retired to Kaede’s room, for her last night there and found Sango in waiting. The two of them got dressed for bed and climbed in, to exhausted to talk.

“’Night Kagome,” Sango whispered, and they went silent. A few minutes later, Kagome spoke up, “Hey Sango?”

“Yes?”

“You awake?”

“Uh-huh.”

“I think Miroku’s in love with you.”

“…”

“G’night Sango!”

“…WHAT!?!?!?!”

Chapter Four: Island Blossoms

Earsplitting knocking on the cabin door awoke Kagome and Sango from their slumber. “We’re coming!” they yelled in unison, as they rushed to change into their daily clothes and personas. Bursting out of the door the ran face first into something very hard. As Kagome looked up she realized it was Inu Yasha’s chest. Shocked, she stayed in place as Sango blushed and excused herself.

“What the hell do ya think yer doin’ huh? Everyone else’s been working for hours now. I don’t know what the two of ya were doing in there, but I want to see you make up for lost time,” Inu Yashed huffed as he rebuffed the young sailor before him. Witnessing this as she was passing by Kaede called, “Don’t get too jealous of our pretty little boy now Inu Yasha.”

“Keh,” he spat as he turned away, but not before Kagome caught a slight tint of red spreading across his cheekbones.

“I want ye to take Kago, he is new to this island. And Kago, I want ye to help Inu Yasha gather wood, we are fixing the damages Tetsusaiga suffered during the storm. I expect the best out of both of ye. Now both of ye, do not forget what I told you. Off with ye!” Kaede shooed them off the boat and they proceeded down the beach to find wood.

‘I’m not s’possed to bother Kago, keh,’ Inu Yasha thought to himself.

‘I don’t understand what she wants me to be careful of. I’m not supposed to put myself, some guy, and the future in danger? What is she talking about?’ Kagome wondered. As the two walked silently next to each other they were lost in their thoughts, not even noticing their beautiful surroundings. Once off the beach and through a field of grass, they approached a tropical jungle of sorts. Plants clouded the view of the sky, with only a few spotlights sneaking through to light the moss covered ground. Fallen trees rested peacefully along the floor and animals rustled through the leaves. Yet all they saw were the leaves in front to their faces, obstacles that they moved out of the way, as they continued their search for wood. Finally making up his mind to defy Kaede’s request, Inu Yasha spoke up, “I asked Kaede to allow me to do the day’s work with you Kago.” Kagome turned a bright shade of red, but Inu Yasha took no notice as he continued, “We have a lot to talk about. I have some questions for you.”

‘Oh no! Kouga must have given away my secret.’

“What is the secret that you, Kouga, and the captain who you informally addressed as Kaede are keeping from me?” he inquired intelligently. It was obvious that he had put a lot of thought into his question.

“I..I..I um, I can’t tell you,” Kagome said bowing her head, “Gomen, sir, but I j-j-ust canno-”

“Inu Yasha.”

“What?”

“You can call me Inu Yasha, in front of the crew as well. You don’t have to hide your relationship with me, it’ll let them know that you deserve a certain amount of respect. We’ll put that Kouga in his place, I-I’ll protect you,” Inu Yasha blurted out before he realized what he had said, and turned a shade of crimson that rivaled Kagome’s flustered color.

“Wh-h-hat I mean is that, uh, you don’t have to feel uncomfortable around me mate. In fact, I feel like I can talk to you for some reason. Ya know, you really bothered me when you first came onto the ol’ gal. And now I know why…Ya look like a girl,” he said scaring and taking Kagome by surprise, “a girl I once knew.” Kagome sighed in relief and picked up her pace so she could keep up with Inu Yasha as he talked to her.

“Her name was Kikyo,” he whispered quickly, as if he didn’t want anyone to hear it. “Ya kinda look like her, ya know, acting so much like a girl and bein’ a wuss an’ all,” he explained increasing the speed at which he rambled as he got more nervous, “I mean, your hair is getting pretty long now, shoulder length…hers was beautiful, it hung down ‘er back, straight black strands of perfection….But what am I telling ya for, eh? You’d better not say a word to the crew about this, or it’s the plank for ya,” he exclaimed angrily. Kagome giggled, taking him by surprise, “You can trust me sir- I mean- Inu Yasha,” she smiled shyly.

They approached a clearing in the jungle that was another area of sand with logs scattered sparsely across the space. Smiling in triumph, they stopped for a break and sat down on the nearest log. Kagome took out her canteen as Inu Yasha continued his story.

“Well ya see, she was the only female member o’ this crew, other than the cap’t of course. Kaede ain’t never hidden anything from her crew, especially her older sister. But for some reason da’ bitch went an’ turned us in, sold us out. She told my rotten brother Sesshomaru where we were at, and ‘cause she did ‘e sent boats out to get us. An entire damned fleet, just ‘cause we got the Tetsusaiga and she’s the best boat the water has ever faced. She’ll always make it through for ya, I tell ya…But Kikyo turned us in, she said it was ‘cause she worked for nobody now, she did’n wanna take orders no more. But right nex’ to her was some human, he claimmed he was from the future,” Kagome’s breath caught. Inu Yasha was talking about Naraku, but Kagome decided not to mention anything until she had discussed it with Kaede. Inu Yasha persevered with his story, unaware of Kagome’s revelation, “and ‘e said that only ‘e could bring Kikyo the happiness she deserved. And then they left, tattered, the boat I mean, she was practically no use to use. But we fixed her, Sesshomaru gave me ‘is Tenseiga,” he explained holding out the sword on his belt for her inspection.

“It’s a sword that heals, Kago, kinda like you,” he said, pausing to take a swing from Kagome’s canteen. “So we fixed her up, but now, we’re in debt to me brother. Sos we resort to piracy of even lowly merchant vessels. I hate attackin the weak, but they ain’t innocent o nothing.”

“Inu Yasha,” Kagome interrupted, “Why tell me all this?”

“Um,” he stuttered turning slightly away from her, “because I trusts yas, ok?… Now, let’s get back to work!” Kagome smiled at Inu Yasha and nodded her agreement, but inside she felt guilty. ‘He trusts me, but I’ve already betrayed that trust by lying to him. If he ever finds out…’ Searching the area, Kago finally found a humungous log and called Inu Yasha over. They agreed that it was more than sufficient to cover a myriad of Tetsusaiga’s holes. Each getting on one side of the log they count to three and hoist it up.

After a few steps were taken Inu Yasha is stopped in his tracks as the log gains about another 50 pounds. ‘What the hell?’ he wonders as he turns around. What he saw behind him caused him to burst out in laughter. Kagome was panting, with her hands on her knees, and completely red from the labor. “Y-y-you-u-u are s-s-such a gir-rl-l!!!” Inu Yasha managed to get out in between bouts of laughter. Kagome eventually joined in, never having seen him so much as smile before, his laughter was utterly contagious. ‘I’m glad he’s happy now. Even though his words about Kikyo were angry, I can tell that he was immensely hurt by her behaviors. But if I look so much like her, why would he tell me?…Did he love her?…Does he still have feelings for her? Even after she betrayed him?’

“OY!” Inu Yasha yelled disrupting Kagome’s thoughts, “Get a move on shrimp, I ain’t got all day!” Inu Yasha was already in the wide expanse of the jungle, and Kagome rushed to catch up. Seeing him she smiled. He was proving his manhood by having the immense log swung over both his shoulders, resting on the base of his neck. “This is how the real men do it kiddo,” he grinned.
Kagome reached down and picked up a fairly well-sized rock. She leaned back and then chucked it at Inu Yasha’s head. ‘Maybe this’ll take that ego down a few notches!’ Kagome thought as she giggled.

“What the hell’s ya problem boy?!?!” Inu Yasha yelled in exasperation as he turned his back on the laughing Kago and continued back towards the Tetsusaiga. Kagome couldn’t wipe the grin off of her face as she followed him from a safe distance. She watched his muscles go through intense work in order to hold up the huge log, all while he attempted to make it seem as if it was effortless for him. She smiled the beautiful surrounding jungle and thought about how childlike he was when away from the crew. And so the two of the continued towards the ship, tired from the walk in the sweltering heat. Inu Yasha grumbling in the lead, and Kagome smiling contently close behind.

‘My muscles are killing me!’ Inu Yasha screamed in his head. He grit his teeth and called over his shoulder to Kago.

“Hey Kago!”

“Yeah, Inu Yasha?” Kagome yelled back.

“Let’s take a bath when we get back, it’s a hot day.”

“…um…”

The end of chapter four!

So what did you guys think?? I know Sesshy isn’t here yet, but he’s coming. I would never leave the man as sexy as Johnny Depp without an important, role. *heartbeat speeds up* …Anyway, please tell me what you guys think. I want to put up another chapter, but I want feedback first, I want to fix any and all problems. I know this was kinda an explanation chapter, but I think that something was blossoming on that island. Coulda just been the jungle plants though. So what do you think is going to happen? How do Kagome and Inu Yasha feel about each other? When does Naraku make his entrance? Haha. I want to know all your thoughts! Well, now that I’ve freaked you all out, I must call it a night. Until next time!
