Seamstress

Summary: For five hundred years, new tapestries of a beautiful shrine maiden have magically appeared every four years, when the shrine doors open, on the display walls of the abandoned shrine in Tokyo, Japan. No one knows how they appear, or who makes them, but that all changes when a detective decides that it has remained a mystery for far too long. The second he steps in the shrine when the doors open, he realizes that all the rumors were true. Those who go in, never go out. It seems though, that after he has met the heartbroken and sad shrine maiden's ghost, he won't want to leave.

Prologue

She ran and ran and ran, pushing herself to the limit, knowing that if she didn't, the evil would catch her. No, it wasn't a ghost, or a spirit, but she knew that so well. She also knew that she would never be able to escape it, but she tried. And God must have known she tried, because she saw the shelter not five minutes later, and burst in, frantically looking for her, the only one who could teach her how to stop it.

She reached the far room where she lived. Knocking the door down, she scrambled in, not looking at where she was going. When she saw what was before her, her eyes widened in terror, her scream caught in her throat.

In front of her lay the blue, rotting flesh of the once powerful miko. Her eyeballs were a bluish tint, and had obviously been scratched out. The tips of her fingers were cut off and the killer had turned her head in such a way that she could see the back of her head cut open to the skull.

It wasn't the sight that scared the young girl, for she had seen far worse, but it was the mere knowledge that it had been powerful enough to do this to her.

"Run." The voice who she had grown up to love and take comfort in had a deathly tint in it, and she did what she was told, and ran. She ran top speed, the voice following her, haunting her. She passed by the trees, and she recognized each one, having grown up near them her whole life. She knew she was nearing the shrine when she passed the legendary Goshinboku.

'I'm safe, at least for the time being' she sighed in relief. She stumbled up the steps of the shrine, each step seemed to make the trip harder...longer, and she collapsed when she finally made it to the top.

"Run." She jumped up at the sound of the voice, this time harsher than before. She didn't want to, and she didn't know why she did, but she ran...and ran until she made it to the entrance and bowed down, and prayed. She prayed for her life, and for the leftovers of her, Kikyo. She looked up at the Great Tapestry hanging on the wall, and wondered whether it would make it through the disaster that was surely to come.

"Kami...Kami...Kami..." She then questioned her sanity. She was about to die by the hands of the man...no, it was a beast, that would lead the world to disaster and pain, and all she do was worry about a tapestry?

She felt it coming. She could always feel it. She pivoted and scanned her surroundings, waiting for it to speak.

"RUN!" The voice echoed loudly inside her head, and she held her forehead in her hands, forcing the pain away.

And she ran, for what seemed like the millionth time that night. She felt the evil. She ran inside the dark rooms, making turns as if she were in a maze. She scurried around, looking for someone that could help, in any way.

She broke down sobbing after checking every room, and there wasn't a single living soul. The place looked as if everyone had died and they were either starting to rot, or had the bones and flesh scattered throughout the shrine.

"There isn't anyone to save you. There never was." She had expected that, and she stood to face her fate. It was next to her in a second, holding her throat, though not tightly. It would have been the same as choking though, for he had grasped life in his hands, and she could not fight back. It was pulling the last of her life away, and she fought to breath, pulling on it's life, and hoped to live long enough. "I will be sealed with you Miko. No need to worry. You're not alone."

There were tapestries everywhere. She had made them all. She'd gifted them to the shrine and she wished that she could spend another moment just holding onto them. He pulled the last of her life out, and she pulled his, each sealing each other forever in the tapestries.

"Run...Kagome." and the voice quieted down.

Sorry if that was either
A) extremely boring
B) extremely stupid
C) extremely confusing
D) extremely not cool

In fact, just like most story prologues, you don't even have to read it. It would have been helpful in the future though.
