Slipping

Naraku was dead, purified by Kagome’s sacred arrow, and the jewel was once again whole, or it would have been. In a last attempt to prevent the jewel from being purified, he chanted a spell that made the jewel glow with a black light. It rose from the ground and floated into the air.
A jagged pink line appeared on it’s smooth surface and started to branch out, creating smaller pink lines until the whole jewel was a mess of jagged lines. Then the jewel separated into shards once more. But instead of scattering to the four corners of the land, they were contained within a black sphere and simply vanished into thin air.
The brave and battered warriors stared in disbelief as the whole object of their quest, the very reason for all their pain and struggles, split again and vanished. An image swirled into focus from the miasma that pooled in the field where the battle took place.
Naraku’s pale face materialized in the thick of it, an evil sneer set in place. “You fools thought that this was the end? How quaint. You may have destroyed my body and my heart, but my legacy will live on for eternity. You’ll never find the jewel; past, present, or future. It’ll stay broken until the next person discovers its legend and decides to seek it out, but by then, you’ll all be long dead. If you’re as smart as I think you are, then you’ll just let it go. But if you want to try and be the brave fools and find it again I have some words for you.” Everybody waited with baited breath as to what he would say next, even the stoic demon lord. Naraku’ scarlet eyes looked at them all before starting to fade.
“Happy hunting.” and with that, his face faded and the miasma filled sky cleared to reveal a full moon, whose light illuminated the gruesome sight that was a field. Bodies and their missing parts scattered the ground like leaves while blood puddled like it had been rained down. Trees that once stood tall and proud were reduced down to smoldering and slightly melted stumps, green acid dripping off them. Deep gouges littered the ground like someone had raked their nails across it in a careless fashion.
Nine lone, battle weary figures stood, faces grim, bodies wounded. One of them suddenly dropped to the ground, the strain of the battle taking it’s toll. The rest of the people swarmed to her, shouting her name and asking if she was alright. When she didn’t respond, a silver haired man knelt down and picked her up, cradling her in his arms. He noticed that her hair was blood matted and some blood still ran freely down her neck. Alarmed, her quickly looked for any signs of an injury, but found none due to her thick mass of midnight hair.
He raised his clawed hand and cut away some of the hair, revealing a nasty gash at the base of her neck. It ran from her left ear to her right shoulder blade, blood running freely from it. The hanyou shook her, trying desperately not to cry, trying to keep her alive.
“Inuyasha stop! You’ll only make it worse!” cried Sango as she grabbed his shoulders in an effort to stop him. She knew that Kagome had a very small chance of surviving because of the place of the wound and the fact that she had already lost so much blood.
“Then how the hell do we save her?!” he growled, eyes flashing red despite Tetsusaiga being at his hip. Sango looked away, not able to tell him the truth, not wanting to accept the truth herself. After all that the young woman had done out of the kindness of her heart just to make others happy, was for naught. Her sister was going to die and there was nothing she could do about it.
Sango grabbed onto Miroku’s robes, letting her tears soak the indigo fabric. Miroku brought a shaking hand up to her back and started to rub soothing circles. His own face was set in a pain filled grimace, tears streaming unstopped down his grime covered face. The look that Sango had on her face spoke the unspoken truth about Kagome’s condition, he didn’t want to think that after all that Kagome had done, she was going to die.
Shippou sniffed the air and frowned. Kagome smelled like his parents had after they were killed. He looked at Sango and Miroku and asked,”What’s wrong with Kagome?” It was an innocent question, but it only made Sango cry harder. Shippou just sat back and waited for someone to gives him an answer, to tell him that his okaa-san was going to be okay.
Kouga stood still as a stone, not comprehending what was happening. His Kagome, his mate, was going to die and the bastard that killed her didn’t even have the honor to live long enough for Kouga to kill him himself. Even though he knew Kagome would never return his feelings he would always love her as he mate he would never get to have.
Sesshomaru just looked on with mild disgust at the open display of emotions, though deep down inside, he felt slightly the same. Over the few years she had been here and the couple times that they had met, he had formed a deep rooted respect for the young miko. When faced with danger she never showed fear and always faced it with a smile or kind words. He had to admit for a ningen she was quite beautiful and brave, qualities that most demonesses he had met lacked. It was pathetic to see the chaotic society they lived in lose such a strong onna.
Jaken scurried out from behind his lord. He looked at the dying girl and laughed, such a weak human she was. Sesshomaru sent him a glare and he shut his beak. Kilala roared repeatedly, signaling at her great sadness. The girl had always been kind to her and she had thought of her like her own pup, because she was herself, a couple centuries old.
Inuyasha looked around at his friend’s faces, confused as to why they were so forlorn and grief stricken. He looked at Sango,”What’s wrong with you, why are all of you all of a sudden so damn sad?” he asked.
Sango was amazed at how stupid he could be at such a serious time. “Look wench, I asked what was wrong. I swear you humans are so slow sometimes,” he said as he rolled his eyes.
Sango had passed her breaking point. “You asshole! How the hell can you sit there and talk about human intelligence when Kagome id dying?! Are you so oblivious to the outside world that you can’t even realized when something horrible has happened to the woman you supposedly love?!” she screamed as she lunged for him. She would have made it if it wasn’t for Miroku holding her back.
Inuyasha’s eyes widened as he slowly looked down at Kagome, tears forming in the corner’s of his eyes. Her chest wasn’t moving and her skin had gone a deathly pale, she didn’t have any body heat.
Without saying anything Inuyasha leapt up and into the remaining forest, one goal in his mind; keeping Kagome alive.

He sat in the hospital waiting room, clenching and unclenching his fists as he waited for the human in the white coat to come back with some information. Hana, Kagome’s mother, sat beside him, a reassuring hand on his shoulder. When Inuyasha had shown up with Kagome in his arms, she had been happy. But when she asked Kagome why she was back so soon and didn’t get and answer, when she saw the sad look in Inuyasha’s eyes, that’s when she panicked. She had called 911 and they had arrived at the hospital in mere minutes, but this was all four hours ago, and they still hadn’t heard from the doctors that had taken Kagome away. Just as she was about to go ask, a doctor came up.
“Higurashi Hana?”
She turned around and almost ran to the doctor. “That’s me, what can I do for you?” she asked nervously, eager to find out about her daughter.
“Oh yes, about your daughter,” he glanced at his clipboard,” Kagome Higurashi. We’ve closed up the wound with some stitches and a few staples and it’s healing quite nicely.” Hana released a relieved sigh. “But there is some bad news. Your daughter has entered a coma and shows no signs of waking. We don’t know how long she’ll be in it so we’re going to keep her for observation,” said the doctor as he walked away.
“Oh, you can come see her if you like.” Hana paled, but followed, beckoning for Inuyasha to come too. He eagerly got up and bound after her, wanting to see Kagome. They were lead to a white room with pale pastel colored curtains. It contained some beeping machinery and a couple stainless steel chairs, and most important of all Kagome.
She lay on the bed connected to tubes and machines, unmoving. They walked up to her and pulled up chairs to her bed side. They just sat there without saying a word for what seemed like hours until the nurse came in and announced visiting hours were over. They replaced the chairs and walked out of the room, closing the door shut behind them. They exited the building and went to the shrine in complete silence.
Inuyasha leapt over the edge of the well and was engulfed by the blue light, signaling that he had been able to pass back through. He got out of the other side and went back to the village. His friends had bombarded him with millions of questions, but he just moved to the corner of the hut and stayed there.
**********************************
He would visit frequently, multiple times a day. But as th days changed to weeks and the weeks changed to months and the months to years, he just gave up hope. Kagome was probably never going to wake, so why bother putting himself through the emotional stress that came with each visit? He had to think about himself, didn’t he?************************************************************** ************************
Well I hope u like this and don’t worry she’ll be back, maybe. *evil snickers* well the only way you’ll find out is to read the rest and review to boost my confidence. If I don’t get reviews then I refuse to write more.
