Prologue

Screams were heard throughout the land, and the innocent sound of an infant crying tears followed. The castle loomed threateningly over the vast land of Inutashio, Lord of the Western Lands, and lightning struck violently out from the clouds hitting the ground, long jagged scars left on the surface. Clouds gathered, a magnificent power flowed over the land. The wind blew, and the thunder crashed, with each bolt of lightning, the room lit up, upon the wrinkled sheets, lay a woman, and her crying infant.

“Shhh, my sweet, cry no more,” Nozomi soothed, the maids rushing around her, picking up the supplies they had used in the labor of their new master.

“My Lady, do you wish for the presence of his Lordship at the moment?” a female maid asked, turning to look at the new one in which she would answer too.

“Yes, Ai, that would be wonderful, if you please,” Nozomi ordered kindly, her heart filled to the brim from the little bundle she held in her grasp.

Tears streamed down her flawless pale skin, her once mirthful eyes dulled with the realization of one tragic thing. Her baby boy was a hanyou, someone who would be scorned for his heritage, for what he was. Her little pup could never play like normal children, and probably would never be respected no matter of his status. Sniffling, she looked into the bright amber eyes of the said boy, and a bitter-sweet smile filled her features, he would probably never find love when he grew old enough.

Pulling him close, she snuggled closer to the child, who cooed in response to her loving attention, and nibbled slightly on her jaw with his gummed mouth. Smiling, both Nozomi and the pup, she kindly looked at his innocent features, he grinning a joyous smile in return. Sighing, she rocked him back and forth slightly, holding him tightly and possessively in her clutches.

“My mate, are you well?” came a collected voice from the doorway, looking up, Nozomi looked into the eyes that were identical to her son’s.

“Yes, Inutashio come and look upon your new son,” Nozomi called, beckoning him to her side, and he did, shutting the door behind him.

Walking over to the new member of his family, the Lord of the Western Lands smiled upon the new child’s glowing face. Though he would not show his kindness to anyone besides his family, he did let it show now to the one that he would be calling son. Taking the new one into his strong arms, he looked at the pup’s silver hair, soft to the touch, almost like a feather, his eyes a honey amber that shone with the same intensity that he himself had, and then his eyes fell upon the ears. Two triangle years were perched upon his head, twitching from side to side, listening to what was being said, and Inutashio thought the same thing his wife only moments before had thought.
A small knock was heard on the door to the bedroom where the Lady of the Western Lands had given birth to the lord’s second son only moments ago. Turning, the inu-youki sniffed the air and the scent of his first born filled his sensitive nose, beckoning to enter, the young lad creeped in and sat by his father on the edge of the bed, staring warily at the pup wrapped in blankets.

Turning his attention back to the new addition, Inutashio pulled the babe close to his face and took a deep breath, memorizing the scent of his second son. He could feel the giant energy that emitted from the small form, smirking, the lord new the day had come, the day that the prophecy had predicted.

Book of the Saints
Many years will pass, and the world will be at peace, the guardian of the light will walk among the living. A worker of his almighty, the protector of what is right, the protector of those who cannot do this for themselves. The day will come, when this inu will be born, when this child will take his first breath as the rescuer of us all.

He will be born of royal birth, from a inu lord himself, his eyes will be golden and forever searching. His ears will be sharp, not missing even a single sound of lashes on an eye lid swishing when blinked. The child’s hair will be a silvery soft that billows in the wind, a child of noble that will live an outcast’s life. A pup who will be sent away, only to return when the sun sets, and the moon rises to greet the night.

This child will be joined by five figures, all who will fight to save us from the evil of the coyote youki. He will be born with the power of the coyote, though ten times stronger in power. This child will be born a night when the sky rages it’s fury and the Earth succumbs to it. That will be the night that our hero will be born unto us, the night that a hanyou is brought forth.

Looking one more time, Inutashio placed the small and fragile pup into his older sibling’s arms, who instantly drew him near. Staring intently down at the tiny hanyou, the small youki took a whiff of the scent of the member of his family, and then gently giving the babe to his mother, who excepted him without hesitation.

“Do you like him?” Nozomi asked, staring at the young child who looked at her with curious and intent eyes.

“Yes, but, do you love him more? Since he’s your own,” the small male sniffled, rubbing his nose with the back of his hand, trying to suppress the whimper that tore from his throat.

“Oh Sesshomaru, of course not, you are my son, even if not by blood,” and with that said, Nozomi reached out and pulled the child to her, holding both of her sons at her side.

Smiling down at his family, the Lord of the Western Lands growled affectionately at the small group, all contented at being in each other’s presence. He watched intently at how his first born fell asleep against his adopted mother’s chest, breathing her scent in deeply, comforting his tiny frame. His mate closed her eyes, completely drained from the earlier task of bringing life into the world, and a powerful one at that. But what interested him the most was the way his second born looked his way, his amber eyes never closing, as most newborns did. Wide awake, and fully alert, the pup snuggled closer to his mother’s warmth, but never did his searching gaze leave his father’s face, never did his ears stop their moving, and never did his attention falter.

“Go to sleep my son. You will need you rest for things that are to come,” the lord softly commanded as he watched the new young master do as he was instructed. Nodding his head in approval, Inutashio slipped underneath the covers of the bed and held onto his family tightly, never wanting to let go. “Goodnight Inuyasha.”
